The wolf looked back at him as he petted and its lip curled to show large white teeth. Maybe he didn't like being petted, maybe he was eager to start their own hunt, hunter becoming hunted, but likely the only way that Selegon would find out which was on the wolfs mind would be if he got bitten.
One thing seemed to be in their favour; 'Sting' whatever his real name was, didn't consider Selegon to be any particular threat. He had allowed his forces to disperse, seeking a multitude of targets, no doubt relying on surprise to acheive his results. Had he targeted his enemies one by one, none of them would have stood a chance, but now Selegon had that chance to take out the one who tracked him.
A human. Confident in his abilities and no doubt experienced. To take him for granted would be a mistake, but first the man had to find Selegon and that wouldn't be so easy. The obvious place to start would be the city, but the man stood a good chance of being arrested if he went there. Still if he arrived at the gate, asking for a citizen of good standing then maybe he would be let through or maybe the guard might remember that Selegon was out in the forest.
A decision was at hand, attempt to track the man though he might be experienced and able to hide his tracks or attempt ambush by guessing his route. The wolf might help with the tracking but could Selegon trust him even if he could make him understand what he wanted?
