Lauke's House (All welcome)
In the heart of the domicilium of Abestat, between the ramshackle shacks of the poor and the richly built homes of the well-to-do, lay an ordinary, humble-looking house. It was a simple home, made of wood, with a roof that had a better than 50-50 chance of leaking should rain come. Letters were smeared onto the door with a material that looked like brown paint, but had the texture of dried mud. It read, "Lauke's House."
Inside, it was apparent that the house was comprised solely of one room. There were no other doors or walkways. The room possessed a few pieces of poorly made furniture, all likely to break the next time sufficient weight was placed upon them. A very small cupboard held a small amount of food, no water.
About this time, as morning came to this side of Telath, a yawn came from the back right of the house. An average figure stirred on a very simple bed, stretching and removing the fatigue from its muscles. At length, it sat up and pulled away the basic bedsheet, rubbing its eyes.
After a few seconds, the hand came down and the face was revealed. It was the face of a young, human man, with brown hair, brown eyes, and the startings of a grin on his face. After a quick exhale, the grin became a full-fledged smile and his entire face lit up. "Another wonderful brightening!" he exclaimed to no one in particular. With this declaration, he abruptly left the bed to start the day.
As he donned his pantaloons, sleeveless tunic, and shoes, he hummed the melody to a song about an adventurer, who reputedly jumped nude into the Ioannes River to cool off and came out to find a band of goblins at his campsite. At the sight of him, the goblins actually knelt, paid him homage, and brought him to their tribe. Bringing him to their altar, he saw that the image they prayed and gave sacrifices to was an exact replica of his... genitalia. Accordingly, he assumed the role of an avatar of their imaginary god and lived a life of luxury to the end of his days.
Why did Lauke hum this song? Because the lyrics were rather rude and he'd already been fined once for disturbing the peace.
Having finished dressing and humming, Lauke walked to the middle of the house and stopped suddenly. "Something doesn't feel right..." he murmured, glancing around with a worried look on his face. His eyes fell on a scrap of cloth on the table, and he smiled once again. "My bandanna!" he cried, crossing the room to grab it and put it on his head. His bandanna was very important to him, as it was the last thing his mother gave him before she died. She claimed that it had belonged to one of their ancestors, who had fought under Emperor Constantine as he conquered Luctadomum.
Lauke didn't know one way or the other about that, but the bandanna felt right and looked pretty good on him.
Tying the last knot behind his head, his arms fell to his sides and he took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly. Another day in the Allerian Empire... A knocking at the door brought him back from his daydream. Walking to the door with a smile on his face, he opened it and faced his visitor. "Serale! I am Lauke. How are you this fine brightening?"
