As Lauke walked about the mercantile district of Abestat, he wondered just where he would find a weapon shop. "If I only had a sword, and some training..." he murmured to himself. For the young human man had decided to become an adventurer. However, it was foolhardy to go out into the wilderness without a bit of preparation; hence, his search.
By the Blessings of Ioannes - or perhaps dumb luck - Lauke glanced into yet another shop and to his great surprise found it full of weapons. "This must be the place!" he exclaimed, and stepped inside - only to trip over a lip in the door frame with an oof sound. At the counter, Gauf the blacksmith smirked. Yet another victim who didn't understand the meaning of 'look before you leap.'
Getting back on his feet and brushing himself off, Lauke looked back in surprise. "Wonder what I..." he started, then immediately dismissed it as unimportant. Looking about the shop, he spotted the blacksmith and smiled. "Serale!" he exclaimed as he walked toward the counter. "I was looking for a weapon shop, and here you are, out of the blue! Do you mind if I look around a bit, try them on for size?" he asked.
"Go ahead," grunted the dwarf, becoming increasingly annoyed with Lauke's optimism and stupid smile. "Just don't cut yerself; I ain't got nothin' to help with that." That being said, Gauf hopped off his box and walked over to a pile of swords that needed polishing, praying to Cetheron that the idiotic human wouldn't try to engage him in conversation.
"Thanks!" Lauke replied, before setting off around the shop and trying out the weapons, seeing how they felt in his hands. The axes were too unwieldly, the bastard sword too long, and the daggers too short. What was the best weapon for him to use?
His eyes fell on the falchions, and his eyes lit up. Picking one up, he tried a few slices through the air. Excellent! It was perfect for him. "Excuse me, sir," he called out as he turned about and headed towards the counter. "I think I have what I'm looking for."
Finishing the sword he had been polishing, the dwarf sighed and prepared himself as he jumped back onto his box. He eyed the sword Lauke held carefully, then glanced at Lauke himself, pretending he was judging the sword and the buyer, but actually checking the shape of the human's body to make sure he wasn't stealing anything from his shop. "Falchion, huh?" Gauf asked retorically. "That'll be 80 crowns," he continued, holding out his hand.
"Oh, right," Lauke replied belatedly. Being caught up in the rightness of how the sword felt in his hands, he had quite forgotten he needed to pay for it. Placing the falchion on the counter, he dug into the pockets of his pantaloons and pulled out a few handfulls of crowns. He patiently counted them out to the smith. "78...79...80," he finished, taking his sword back into his hands. "Thank you so much." he started towards the door, then stopped. He just remembered... "Say, would you happen to know where I can get trained to use this thing?" he asked, blushing at his lack of knowledge.
"At the Synesi Plateia," Gauf growled, wishing with all his heart that the idiotic human would just leave. "Now get outta here; this ain't no city forum."
"Right," Lauke replied, smiling. "Thanks again, and serale." With that, the human walked out the doorway - and promptly fell again on the raised lip. To his credit, though, he managed to not impale himself with his new falchion. Rising to his feet, he looked around again, puzzled, then went on his merry way.
"Idiot," Gauf growled, jumping down from his box to continue his polishing. "Hope he gets himself killed."
