Third Brightening of the Second Cycle,
Month of Ioannes, Summer Era XIV
The boots stepped onto the smooth glossy stone with a resounding click as their heels collided upon the flat, unmoving, resolute, perfectly-still-and-incapable-of-shaking pavement. Seth let out a rather hefty sigh of relief as he felt the world correct itself and halt this tipsy nonsense and bucking upon the ocean’s waves. Shaking his head, toffee brown tresses of hair clouded his eyes for a moment as he stared at the stone ground that stared back at him. Dark cerulean blue eyes blinked a few times through the murky haze before a deft finger brushed the very same tresses back and he gathered himself. Moving aside at the persistent ‘harumph’ of an elderly old man, Seth stood off to the side and grabbed a hold of one of the wooden posts to steady himself. He had to untie the knots out of his stomach somehow, after all.
It was fortitude alone that had prevented himself from throwing up, though there were plenty of times he felt like doing so. Oh yes, he could recall with lucid vividness hanging over the side of the ship like some seasick old captain, gaining a fine view of the barnacles attached to the edge of the ferry while other dizzy passengers joined him at odd intervals along the ship’s starboard. They’d made quite the crowd indeed.
It took him a few minutes, but he inevitably lifted himself off the pole and straightened his back, swallowing hard the bile that had threatened to surge up. Gazing around, he noticed the dock house but declined going in; none of the other passengers had checked in, and he felt the need to do so strangely absent as he began trotting down the small dirt path leading through the forest. The cluster of trees, cedars, spruce, and elms from what he could tell, stared down at him ominously, and he shrugged off the feeling of discomfort at the expense of travelling further into the woodland, deciding it best to stick to the path he followed and visit the small island town first before doing so.
