2nd of Kalendryas, Winter Era XV
A soldier entered the tent with a missive in his hand. His armor was enameled an ebony black with a crimson crow in flight upon the breastplate. Saluting to Commander Veleraen he handed to missive to him and stood back in parade rest awaiting orders.
The missive read:
Secrets : To: Sir Veleraen, Commander of the 2nd Regiment
From: Captain Tasad R'rowl Battlecrows Company Commander
Sir, below is a proposed revisement to the training schedule for my heavy infantry that we spoke of in our initial meeting. I have made some other minor adjustments which I think will ensure that my men are ready for battle as quickly as possible.
- At Dawn, each heavy infantry squad not on a regular scheduled watch or patrol will commence a morning five mile forced run, full pack.
- Upon returning, morning calisthenics will take place for one candlemarks.
-After morning exercise, men will be given a candlemark for their morning meals.
-After the men have finished eating, instruction will start. All squads will train for the next three candlemarks with five minute breaks every candlemark.
-After weapons training has finished, men will be allowed another candlemark for a mid brightening meal.
-After mid brightening meal, men will be send to their respective instructors to drill in formation, march. Each squad will be required to know how to construct a breastwork as well.
- Evening operations will be held at random with no advanced notice. Men must be able to muster at a moment's notice.
-Each company will be on sentry at least once during the darkening and each squad will be responsible for taking out patrols into the surrounding countryside. These drills are necessary and will be carried out through out the next two cycles.
-After evening meal, men will be led out on a five mile forced march and then ordered back to quarters.
- Curfew is at two candlemarks before mid darkening. All fires must be extinguished before this to conceal positions at night.
- At the end of each cycle the heavy infantry company will have a mock battle in full gear with weighted weapons and shields. Weapons will be sheathed and sealed to prevent injuries.
- At the end of the batte the heavy infantry company will be allowed one day at half duty, barring unseen circumstances.
The schedule above is very intensive but the heavy infantry usually fights intensive battels in war and must be able to meet the demands placed upon them. They will sweat a great deal now but will bleed a great deal less later. The one day at half duty allows my men time to recover from their training which will admittedly tire them over the cycle. They will still maitain sentry duty and the squad that does the worse in the mock battle will pull any patrols.
Also on a side note I have been able to get two hundred and fifty gladius short swords, plus some spares, to equip my men with. Zim Rage, in Taralon has agreed to exchange the longswords for the gladius. I will remind the commander at this time that I was told that I could do everything short of stealing to be able to equip my men with the weapons they needed. I expect the shipment to arrive late tommarrow afternoon in time for training. At which time we will simply ship the longswords back to the smith.
If there are any adjustments you wish made to my proposed training schedule I will implement them immediately, of course. And as you have probally guessed our company colors are ebony and crimson, with a crimson crow in flight upon our shields and breastplates. Our company name is, 'Battlecrows' Our guidon, or company flag will reflect this with the crimson crow on a field of black, with the company motto underneath stating,'We Hold True'
