Lyr was content. He was more than content - he felt actually, genuinely, happy, in the sort of deep-seated way that stayed with one. He hadn't noticed the ring on Lynessa's finger - he'd been too busy noticing other things, and in any case Lyr hadn't had the faintest that he ought to look at her finger and see if she were otherwise engaged. He'd always thought Lynessa somehow "his" in Trysvale, and now, as they lay in silent satiation on his bed, he figured Lynessa was more his than ever before. Lyr had never been one for cuddling post factum, but at the moment even that seemed to please him.

It took a moment for the knock on the door to sink in as Lyr lay there, still half-asleep, thinking lazy thoughts about nothing at all, basking in the warmth of the female body pressed against his, without any thought to the worries and recriminations which Lynessa might be experiencing.

Only when she pulled away and rose did Lyr finally note the banging on the door. "Wait... leave it..." He mumbled, struggling out of the sheets himself, momentarily angry at whoever it was who seemed determined to barge into his little dreamhouse. "Oh, feth it..." Marveling at Lynessa's delectable dishabille, Lyr rolled off the bed and tugged on his trousers, not bothering with a shirt.

He stomped out into the front room still working away at his belt buckle, and only after he was already half-way to the door did he look up and - freeze.

Aeternia had nothing on this. Lyr's nerves twitched, and a feeling of imminent danger not unlike that he had felt at the approach of the Imperial Forces on the walls of Jaedaxia coursed through him. Ality and Lynessa - this could not be good. He leaped forward to the thought, which was but a weak palliative at the moment, that the two - as far as he knew - hadn't met and didn't know each other in connection with him.

Well, not that he'd done anything that terrible with Ality... but he'd wanted to. The red-head had a certain piquant charm antithetical, but just as appealing, as Lynessa's more straightforwardly feminine beauty. Not that Lyr thought about that right now. Right now, all he could think of was large warning signs that said DANGER and... panic.

He opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say as Lynessa told Ality to come back. For just a hairs-breath he hoped the redhead would leave and the situation would dissolve into nothing. But of course, that didn't happen - Jorel was laughing at him. Mouth still open, Lyr helplessly stood by as Ality replied, first slightly puzzled, then cheerfully desirous to come on in anyway... for what purpose Lyr couldn't at the moment make out, and adding something about carrying a man's child.

Whoa.

And that's how fast things spun out of control. Lyr's eyes flew to Ality's belly, but saw no signs of pregnancy. Could it?... No, it couldn't have been him, since he and Ality had never (unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, given the current circumstances, not that anything could save Lyr's hide now) gone far enough to knock her up.

But whatever Ality's condition, this was a disaster. Lyr took a precautionary step backward, and finally found his voice. "That's... impossible!" His voice shattered and broke as it ratcheted upwards, in a way that would have embarrassed Lyr and proved comical to his hearers under other circumstances. It couldn't be his! Could it?.. Lyr suddenly found himself doubting reality, and ran a hand through his bed-matted hair as if to rake some sense into his brain. "Impossible!?!" He repeated, half denial, half query. Borthanas. And to think he'd been in a place of peaceful bliss not ten minutes ago...
