The Patrol (Yarrow, Jade, Keeva) xGM, please. Private

Dundridge stood at the barracks door, looking inside. He looked at the private standing in front of him. "Private, go find Privates Jade, Keeva, and Yarrow. Tell them to prepare for a patrol. Tell them to have thier weapons polished, and thier uniforms tidy. They have half an hour." He looked at the Private, and motioned him off.

Dundridge was dressed in full battle regalia, a simple leather suit of armor, with an Elven Chainmail shirt, and a gray cloth cloak around his shoulders. His weapons were visible, an Elven Longsword on his right hip, a silver short sword on his left hip, with three longknives scattered around his person. He also had a small dagger, the hilt peeking over his boot. His rank chevrons were neat, his boots polished, and the hilts of his weapons seemed to gleam with a life of thier own. He was literaly gleaming with pride in his students.

When the three Privates had arrived, he looked at them, slowly eyeing them up and down, inspecting them carefully. He then stepped to the front, and eyed them up carefully. "Today is your first patrol through town. While I do not expect trouble, one must always be prepared." He paused. "Any questions?"

Jade, it seemed, was the first to arrive. Her broadsword, that had seen little actuall use, save for a few snakes outside the gate, was well polished in its near-new condition. She had turned up in her second of the two uniforms she had been issues, annd this one had seen very little actual use. (in fact, neither of them had seen much use, and despite having gotten a tad damp while in the quarintine camp, still had most of the starched crease lines in them.)

Jade had also brought along her steel buckler, strapped to her wrist, as well as her standard issue ringmail tunic, and she had tuncked away a few other small items in her belt pockets, such as the interesting little items she had obtained from that Gnomeish merchant the day before.

Stray thoughts bounded their way about in her mind
"First patrol huh... What could posibly go wrong inside the city?"

When Keeva arrived at the scene, Jade was already there. Keeva positioned herself next to Jade, before waiting to see what this talk about a 'patrol' was.

Her elven longsword lay in its scabbard at her hip, sufficiently shiny after all the attention she had given it. She had left her battlebow behind; it would have been to much hassle to carry the thing around with her all the time.

She wore the ringmail tunic she had been issued under one of the standard uniforms. For once, her hair had been pulled severely back into a ponytail.

'Is is just going to be us three going? And what do we do when we're out there? Just walk around and check everything's OK?'

Yarrow swung into the room with a sigh of relif. She hadn't been late after all. She thought she was going to be. She drew her had across her forehead and strightened with much pain for a crap was finding it's way through her skin to craw above the surface of her thigh. She didn't touch it, not wanting to give it the satisfaction of making her move into action.

She had no questions, but found that the two questions before hers would suit her needs for knowledge just fine.

Dundridge took the questions in order. "We are just going to get to know the city. It will be the four of us, you three learning the city, me keeping you out of trouble." He grinned. "Do you think you can handle that?" With that, he led off into the city, keeping an eye on his trainees.

As Dundridge walks out with his usual aura of superiority, Keeva, Yarrow, and Jade seem to have no choice but to follow under his leadership. Walking out the door, Dundridge feels the fresh morning ground below his boots, cushioning his stride with its soft malleable contents. The voices of the others soldiers and their superiors becomes quite apparent, with the volleying of yes sirs, no sirs, military order and other screams not out of the ordinary. Once the female trio reach the outside grounds, they hear and feel the same.

The sun shines brightly in the sky, unimpeded by clouds of any form. In front of you are the usual wooden gates, connected with several tied logs which form the wall of this military establishment. The tips seem quite sharp today--possibly because they were given a fresh cut the day before.

Scents of good find they way towards your noses, causing your mouths to water with delight. It would seem that the dwarg is cooking something delectable today. Nevertheless, the time to eat has yet to come and you destination is towards the northern exit.

Two abestat soldiers salute the group on the way out. As usual, they are weaing the traditional purple and black colors known to the city of merchants. At the moment, the market lays in front of you to the north. In the distance you can see merchants seeling their wares at booths and wagons. Store buildings and their coinciding signs that identify them litter each side of the cobblestone street. Few of them deal with foods of materials of great value, but you notice that the rest of the market takes care of these things. Pretty much any type of store or seller you wish to find lies only yards away from where you stand.

To the east lies the road leading to the residential ditrict and to the west sits the governmental area where the politics have already started for today.

Yarrow glances around as they walk. she takes in the city one building at a time, trying to remember were each thing is placed. With any luck I won't get lost it this place in a week or two. She mused as she walked behind the other three. I hope no one will come at my back while we are walking... She thinks to herself as she feels how naked her back feels.

Dundridge constantly scanned his surroundings, keeping an eye out for trouble. He had new recruits with him, and wasn't sure what good they would be in a fight. So he watched. And waited. He had heard reports from a civilian of some possible trouble brewing, but wasn't sure how reliable the source was. He just hoped that the man was wrong.

Enjoying the sights and smells as she walked, Jade glanced from side to side, inspecting the buildings and reading the signs, trying to take in as much as posible.

Only minutes after leaving the log walls of the military barracks behind them, the group was passing throught the cities open air markets, vendors busily hawking their wares in the morning light.

Ooo, so this is where the markets are... Remind me to come down here in my break and have a look around she said, speeking quietly to herself

Walking forward into the midst of the crowd, open space becomes sparse and crowds become denser. Fortuantely enough, the citizens recognzie your military uniforms and proceed to give you a clear path. Some of them even decide to nod out of respect.

In the distance, you hear a scream. It is a child's scream. Nobody appears to pay attention, so you instincts assume that it must not be too important. In fact, you hear joyous laughter afterwards, giving you a feeling of calm.

The road eventually leads you to the town center. A small stone fountain liess in the middle, spewing cool, clear water in a melodious fashion with a statue held on a platform above the waves depicting a rearing stallion. Many citizens abound around the town square--children trying to catch a floating balloon; a couple holding hand; a tired looking plump merchant rushing towards some destination, eventually bumping into your party with a look of embarassment and a swift apology. You notice, to the left of the fountain, walks a gnome wearing a purple cloak who appears to be in quite a rush. As he walks, he crosses the flow of the fountain, distorting his little figure. When you expect him to follow up on the right side, the gnome doesn't appear. Oddly enough, you see the same gnome wearing a different colored cloak run panicky into a dark alleyway to your right. His exact body deatils couldn't be processed, but his cautious movements certainly bring your attention.

That one doesn't look to be up to no good! Yarrow says loudly pointing at the odd gnome. At your lead, sir. Yarrow nods to her teacher as she puts a hand to her sword.

Dundridge nodded at Yarrow. "Good eyes, Private." He turns to face the group. "We're going into that alley. I'm taking point, Keeva (if you are still around) and Jade, you take the right and left flank. Yarrow, you get to be the rear guard. Everyone, weapons at the ready, but not drawn. Lets move!" He waited until everyone took their positions, then stepped into the alley, every sense alert for danger. He scanned slowly, left to right, right to left, keeping his eyes peeled for the gnome, or any other danger.

IC: Keeva nodded and moved off to take the right hand position, trying not to draw too much attention to herself. she let her hand drift towards the pummell of her sword, secretly hoping this would not lead to a fight.

When she was in position, she waited for Dundridge to make his move, her eyes fixed on the path of the alley.

Jade shot sideways up againts the wall oposite where Keeva had taken station and begain to make her way around to cover things from that side.

Keeping an eye o Dundridge, Jade sat poised to move on his signalling, although in her tense state, practically anything would have had her leaping out of her shoes with her sword at the ready...

Dundridge, Keeva, and Jade, being the first ones to arrive at the alley's entrance, see the gnome still running towards a 90 degree bend at the narrow street's endpoint. His blue cloak appears to float in the air as he runs the fastest you've ever seen a gnome run before. He dodges and manuevers in-between crates as if he was some sort of thief. However, near the end, he starts to bump against the wall and fall onto the floor, as if losing control of his central balance.

The gnome starts to turn the corner, but you see him stop dead in his tracks. For the first time looking at his face, you observe an expression of great fear. His mouth falls agape in between his now visible grey beard and moustache. The gnome steps back against the dark and dirty wall that makes up the surrounding alleyway.

An echo emits through the backstreet sounding like a powerful emnipotent mage of sorts, holding a voice of great magnitude. It says, "The counsel of the Fallen Mystics has made its decision. Your acts of goodness have...interfered with our plans."
