The Wall Lookout Patrol (Invite Only)

TIME STAMP

Spring, Year IX
The Age of the Darkening
Midmorning

Just inside the gates of the Abestatian Military "fortress" stood the officer, Lieutenant Talbufly, leaning nonchalantly as he smoked a pipe. A young go-getter, over confident like many and had never seen much action in the quiet city, he awaited the arrival of his troops for their little assignment.

He was dressed in the common uniform of the Abestatian military, purple and black, and one eye was on the direction of the rest of the complex. As the soldiers arrived, he coughed once before tapping the pipe out and turned to stand at ease.

His legs were a shoulder width apart, his gaze cocky and all-knowing, his smile apparent with no attempt at hiding it. He loved being in charge, no matter the duty.

Already there were, as the rest of the group would find out later, Private Junari and Private Rewan, both female of the katta variety. Their fur shifted as they fell into line facing the lieutenant, mimicking his stance. He waited for the others, beginning to look impatient. They had a long, boring day ahead of them, he was sure, and they might as well get to it as quickly as possible.

He knew promotions could come at any time...

And so could action.

Yarrow is an upstanding Citizen
Under the eyes of a new teacher, Yarrow found herself rushing into formation. What is this all about again? She half wondered to herself. She was feeling a little out of place in a new environment, but in reality it was quiet the same military folks getting ready to teach a class. She stood up at attention and waited for others to arrive.

Feeling a little less awkward in her role as a soldier, Keeva found little trouble making her way towards the gates where she would receive her duties. Her gaze took in the assortment of figures, neatly lined up before the lieutenant, and she experienced a slight jolt of anxiety, afraid that she would be late.

Noticing Yarrow among the soldiers standing to attention, Keeva swiftly made her way over to line up next to her, thankful that there was someone she knew among the group.

Keeva then risked a glance at her fellow soldiers. The kattas she did not really know, and the lieutenant...Well, he seemed an arrogant enough sort, and the dark haired girl took an almost immediate dislike to him. Not that it really mattered, of course. She would have to follow his orders whether she liked it, or not. This thought in turn provoked the question of what exactly they were going to be made to do.

Her view directed in front of her once more, she found she could do nothing but wonder, and wait.

Yarrow smiled as she notice Keeva slip in next to her. She became more relaxed when she realized that she knew someone here after all. Since it didn't seem like the lesson was begining Yarrow risked saying something to Keeva...after all they were probably waiting for all the others who hadn't shown up yet.

Serale Keeva...good to see you again. She said quietly in hopes that Keeva was the only one to hear her speak. How goes things with you? She asked her. Yarrow never glanced at Keeva fully, but she knew she would understand. She had yet to understand their new teacher and therefor was being careful.

Vincent Stefan is a dubious Denizen
Vincent walked over to the commanding, officer. He had just finished basic training, so he was ready for anything. Walking even closer he said his greeting" Serale, I believe I've bin assigned to your section, The names Vincent Stefan" With that Vincent quieted up and waited for a reply.

OOC: I apologize for the wait, everyone. I was trying to figure out what to do with you all, since this is about to feed into the attack on Abestat (run by Hazbones). I know this will feel rushed, but I must get you in on the action as quickly as possible. I hope you have fun, none the less!

IC: Seeing that the remaining soldiers had arrived, the commanding officer began yelling his orders: "Attttention!" he snapped, his own frame going straight and sturdy in one jerk. The other militiamen fell into place in an instant. There were about six, including Yarrow, Keeva, and Vincent.

"You peons are here for one thing, and one thing alone. Patrol duty! It is the most boring, insignificant work possible---and you're all going to do it all day and love it. We are going to march the walls with our eyes peeled for ten solid hours. Do you understand me?"

His gaze swept the group and none responded. "Our highlight segment will be the north wall. There we will subdivide into smaller groups and begin the patrol. One never knows what one might see: we must be vigilant!" The last part was in jest for he obviously expected nothing to occur.

With that, he twisted his body around in one smooth spin, raised his arm for them to fall into formation, and they were off on the days journey.
* * *
The day had become incredibly long and dull, as promised. It involved constantly marching the stone walled city, looking out into the swamps and fields beyond the walls and seeing...nothing. The few farmers that were obvious did little more than tend to their crops. Nothing seemed to be lurking out there.

Thus, nightfall came and the seven were still moving about, now in the driving rain. Visibility was limited and everyone was looking forward to sleep. One human male had practically fallen asleep on his feet when the seven met again at their "command point" on the bulwarks.

"Squad: report!" the officer commanded, looking at each of them in turn. One of the katta was about to open her mouth in protest when an explosion rocked the wall. The whole group had their attention driven toward the segment off to their west where something had just taken out a large chunk of the wall. Abestat was under attack! Even as they gawked, huge trolls lumbered forth to crush what was left of the structure.

Archers already were clammering to fire into the approaching horde of enemies, which seemed to be made of goblins and a variety of orcs, and the few cannons were scraping to aim at the beasts.

"This is why we don't trust orcs in the city!" the officer swore as he turned back to his little troupe. "This is it, soldiers! This is when your home, your sword, and your head is on the line! Let's take it to them and never give up!" he gulped. Military action was scarce in the Abestat military. He was probably as green as the rest of them.

Quickly he rushed them down the nearest stairway and through the streets to where the hole was being opened in the defensive structure. He lined the six others up and ordered them to draw their weapons for a charge once the stone had fallen. His faltering hand raised his own sword in rebuttal of the attackers. Soon, soon...

OOC: Please join Hazbones' thread here. Fight for Abestat!
