OOC: I apologize for the wait, everyone. I was trying to figure out what to do with you all, since this is about to feed into the attack on Abestat (run by Hazbones). I know this will feel rushed, but I must get you in on the action as quickly as possible. I hope you have fun, none the less!
IC: Seeing that the remaining soldiers had arrived, the commanding officer began yelling his orders: "Attttention!" he snapped, his own frame going straight and sturdy in one jerk. The other militiamen fell into place in an instant. There were about six, including Yarrow, Keeva, and Vincent.
"You
peons are here for one thing, and one thing alone. Patrol duty! It is the most boring, insignificant work possible---and you're all going to do it all day and
love it. We are going to march the walls with our eyes peeled for ten solid hours. Do you understand me?"
His gaze swept the group and none responded. "Our highlight segment will be the north wall. There we will subdivide into smaller groups and begin the patrol. One never knows what one might see: we must be vigilant!" The last part was in jest for he obviously expected nothing to occur.
With that, he twisted his body around in one smooth spin, raised his arm for them to fall into formation, and they were off on the days journey.

The day had become incredibly long and dull, as promised. It involved constantly marching the stone walled city, looking out into the swamps and fields beyond the walls and seeing...nothing. The few farmers that were obvious did little more than tend to their crops. Nothing seemed to be lurking out there.
Thus, nightfall came and the seven were still moving about, now in the driving rain. Visibility was limited and everyone was looking forward to sleep. One human male had practically fallen asleep on his feet when the seven met again at their "command point" on the bulwarks.
"Squad: report!" the officer commanded, looking at each of them in turn. One of the katta was about to open her mouth in protest when an
explosion rocked the wall. The whole group had their attention driven toward the segment off to their west where
something had just taken out a large chunk of the wall. Abestat was under attack! Even as they gawked, huge trolls lumbered forth to crush what was left of the structure.
Archers already were clammering to fire into the approaching horde of enemies, which seemed to be made of goblins and a variety of orcs, and the few cannons were scraping to aim at the beasts.
"This is why we don't trust orcs in the city!" the officer swore as he turned back to his little troupe. "This is it, soldiers! This is when your home, your sword, and your head is on the line! Let's take it to them and never give up!" he gulped. Military action was scarce in the Abestat military. He was probably as green as the rest of them.
Quickly he rushed them down the nearest stairway and through the streets to where the hole was being opened in the defensive structure. He lined the six others up and ordered them to draw their weapons for a charge once the stone had fallen. His faltering hand raised his own sword in rebuttal of the attackers. Soon, soon...
