No one ever remembers what this place looks like or who mans the counter. People go to it for one reason, and one reason only: to get their cycle's worth of pay.

A nondescript officer stands behinds a plain white counter, holding a stack of envelopes. "Next?..."

Yarrow had never been told where to go in order to collect her pay. She had found the place by accident when she was looking around. She had stumbled onto it and decided to go inside to see what it was...to her surprise...it was the place that she thought. I am Corporal Yarrow Woodruff...sir. Here are my papers. She said, pulling the papers out and putting them in his line of vision.

The corporal on duty was suprised to see Yarrow there. "We've a stack of envelopes for you. Wasn't sure if you were dead or alive, as you having been collecting your paychecks."

"Well, consider this a nice bonus, then. There's at least 3 zeroes when you add it all up. Sign here, here, here, here, and here please."

He flipped the page, and indicated some more columns. "And sign here, here, here, here, here and of course here. And here."

Then he handed Yarrow several pounds worth of bank notes and sent her on her way.

(OOC: I'll need to touch base with Maddyn and find out what your back pay, but I can't imagine it's less than a thousand crowns all told.)

Yarrow chuckled. Nay...I am not dead yet sir...thankfully. She bent down and began to sign away her name. She signed...signed and signed some more and when that was done she signed again and again until...presto!...there was no more papers to be signed.

Thank you sir. Perhaps now I can get a few...needed items. She told him with a smile. Maybe a bank as well. Is there a bank in Abestat? Yarrow asked as she shoved the wad into her pockets. She didn't feel very safe with so much cash on her...there were so many pick-pockets in these parts...

The corporal went and added all of the checks together that Yarrow would be recieving. It turned out to be around 2000 crowns. Looking up to her, he said, "Well then, it is about 2000 crowns that you are recieving today. There is definitely a bank in Abestat as well, it is the Abestat Savings and Loans. Let me write you out a bank note that you can go give to them. You have earned all of these 2000 crowns, and you deserve each and every one of them." He quickly filled out another form, and then handed it over to her. "Sign at the X..." he said finally, pointing to the part of the paper that had an X on it. He quickly slid over a quill and some ink as well...

Yarrow's eyes widened. 2000 crowns? That was more then she had ever had her hands on in all of her life! She nervously took the ink and paper and after carefully reading over what it all was saying...she signed at another line. She looked up, a smile on her face. Then I had better get to a bank quick, before I lose this....

"Yep, that you should do miss," he said. Smiling, he quickly took back the quill and ink, and then placed all of the rest of her papers in a file drawer behind the desk, save for the bank note that Yarrow had in her hand. "Take care!" he said, smiling. She was a good person, and a good soldier to. He would watch the soldier leave, and then would return to filing papers and such...

Yarrow new that was a dismissal and so smiled, nodded her head. Thank you sir. I will be on my way then. Have a good one. She bowed her head and made her way to the door...opened it...paused...turned back again. Yarrow gave him a friendly wave and the door was closing behind her...shutting her out. Now she was free to carry on with her other business. She glanced both ways down the street and then choose the one that best suited her. She was gone in a flash.

Entering the office, Keeva was only too eager to collect the pay checks she felt she definitely deserved. She had been through so much since her first enrollment into the army, and had danced with death so many times thus far it seemed unreasonable.

Placing her papers on the counter once she had reched the front of the line, Keeva gave a small cough to clear her throat before speaking.

'Lance Corporal Keeva Lasant, here to collect my paychecks, sir.'The young woman spoke, before awaiting a response.

The clerk had a stack of envelopes ready with Keeva's name on them. "Hummph. I wonder how you've been living... according to our records, you have not picked up a paycheck all season long." He gave her a speculative glance, clearly thinking of camp followers.

He shrugged, and handed her a voucher form to sign for everything. "Meh. Sign on the 'x,' here, here, and here, so on down the line, once for each check. No no, here. Your name."

An hour later, when Keeva was finished, the clerk handed her 2,000 crowns worth of bank notes. "At last. Meh. Here you are, do try and come again sometime in the same era, won't you?" Okay, so he was hired for his mathematical abilities and not his social graces; at least the money was now all hers.

Once Yarrow and Keeva had gone on their way the colorless little man went back to his job. He considered it the most important and vital one on the entire base, for it was crowns that kept everything going. "An army marches on its wallets," he would say to anyone who asked. He had many exciting stories to tell people like the time Morton in accounting was short a nickel and could not balance the books until he himself had found the error on line 3 of accounts payable. Oh, those were glorious days indeed!

TIMESTAMP: Brightening, 11th of Optia, Spring of Era X

Atticus opened the door with a thick hand and shut it closed softly. He looked at the desk ahead of him and slowly approached it. He came with his military uniform on, and his military ID in hand. Thudding heavly with every step, Atticus was making quite a scene.

"Next . . ." Atticus made his way to the man.

"Serale, I am Private Miller, and I'm here for my cycles worth of pay." Atticus removed his military I.D. and waited to recieve forty crowns. He slid his hands down to his belt, and fumbled between layers of flesh for a small leather bag. He removed it from his belt with some difficulty, and set atop the counter. He opened it and pulled the little string, waiting, to see if he'd be getting those 40 crowns soon.
