Room 202A: Corporal's Quarters (Keeva (?) and Yarrow)

[Yarrow]

Yarrow entered her new room. It wasn't much to look at, but it was a step above the Private's quarters. Besides...I don't plan to be a corporal all my life... She thought to herself as she threw her bags down upon her new bed. All her things were packet in that one bag...weapons, food, equipment...and animal supplies.

Ann, the sparrow, flew down upon the luxurious bed and let out a tweet of excitement. Bloom, the Grate Dane, made it known that he liked the place by laying down immediately in a corner, out of the way.

The room was divided into two sections. The one part that she stood in now would be hers...the other her roommate's. Her side was simple with a single bed and a writing desk that was covered in dirt. Yarrow didn't think it had been used in a very long time. Who lived in here before myself?

Her eyes turned to the attention of the single window...placed in the middle of the room...it was closed...locked tight.That wont do. She said to no one in particular and went to open it. It was stuck tight, but after a moment it budged an inch, then another...SCITTTTTTTTTHHHHHH...it made an interesting noise as it opened all the way and air flooded into the room. Then with a broad smile, Yarrow put her hands on her hips and looked at her knew home.

[Keeva Kaldres]

A hesitant knock on the door prolaimed the newly ordained Lance Corporal Lasant's arrival. The knock was followed by the slightly nervou face of the young woman as she peered inside the room that had been designated for her new quarters. As her storm grey gaze flitted about the room, the previous nervousness was instantly replaced by surprise, as she noticed Yarrow struggling with a particularly unwilling window. A wry grin began to form on her face as the dark haired young woman continued to watch her friend. When she had finally won the fight, and the nasty window had been defeated, and opened, Keeva stepped into the room, dropping the dufflebag containing her belongings onto the floor besides her. The gesture produced a more than satisfactory thump on the hard surface of the floor.

'Yarrow? Serale!' Keeva grinned, before continuing, 'It appears that we're sharing this room together.'

A barely distinguishable mew sounded from the furry form that was cradled in the Lance Corporals' left arm like a small child.

'Yeah, I know, Emmie. This place really could do with a good makeover.' Facing Yarrow once more, Keeva's smile had lessened, partilally replaced by a slight frown. 'So, I guess we're going to have to clean up a little first before we can live in this, huh?'

[Yarrow]

Yarrow looked up in surprise to see her friend, but she smiled when she realized that they would be room mates. Then she chuckled and shook her head. I am glad it is you I am sharing a room with and not some unknown stranger...not that I don't like meeting new friends...it is just...I'd rather live with a friend then a complete stranger. Then she looked about her room...their room. You mean we are suppose to live in this? She said jokingly, but she wasn't completely serious. She was just relieved that they had moved out of the bunks.

[Keeva Kaldres]

'Yeah, we get to live here. They must really hate us, eh?' Keeva replied jokingly, moving over to the window, and running a pale finger over the glass of its surface. The darkness of the dirt that came off on the end of her fringer contrasted quite nicely with its usually wan colour. Wrinkling her nose to signal her disgust to her room mate, the young soldier then turned to Yarrow, hands on hips.

'We've got a lot of work set out for us here. Where do you suggest we start?'

Keeva's grey eyes surveyed the room once more, taking in its rather disdainful appearance. Hopefully, with a woman's touch, and a lot of dedication, they could make their quarters into a home worth living in.

[Yarrow]

Yarrow shrugged her shoulders. There is so much to do! She thought. Then she went into her bad and pulled out one of her uniforms. It was a mess of a uniform. She had warn it through the battle against the orcs and such and it was useless for anything, but what she was going to use it for now.

Dusting anyone? She asked, showing her teeth in a grin. She threw Keeva a piece of cloth that she had taken from the pants. Yarrow took the other part of the pants and she got to work on the desk.

HACHEWWWWWWW! Yarrow sneezed as the dust came in contact with her nose, but she attacked the desk with the rag. Hopefully she would be finished before dinner time...

I think after I get done this I am going to go into Market and get a few needed supplies. candles, Cleaning Supplies, Curtains...Writing Equipment for that desk...hmm...anything that might brighten this room up a bit... As she listed her hands moved over every part of the desk. She didn't want to miss a spot.

I also need to stop...or to see if there is a bank in Abestat. I just realized where we pick up our pay. Talk about a sorry sight...I entered the building and the man thought I didn't fallen off of Alleria or something because I had never come to pick up my money. She shook her head. She didn't feel confortable with all that money in her pocket. She would need to find a bank...and what better time to do it when she was out shopping for supplies?

[Keeva Kaldres]

Keeva caught the piece of cloth, a weary, rueful look crossing her pale features. It was quite clear thta the young lady was quite against having to dust the entirety of the room they were standing in. Still, it had to be done, and Keeva half-heartedly began to tackle one of the desks that lay covered in a thick sheet of the dreadful dust.

Sniffling, she fought against the sneeze that she knew would inevitably come. Dust was not something that agreed with her senses. Fro the look of things, it didn't agree with Yarrow's too much, either.

'If we ever finish up here...I might do a bit of shopping myself. Maybe buy a few baubles and other niceties that may make this place a bit brighter...a bit more of a home.'

Saying that, the realisation came that she had not visited her own home for such a long time. Not that she truly missed it. The everyday hustle and bustle, the immense, constricting crowds, the rowdiness of the taverns. Still, it would be a nice thing to pay a visit to her birthtown again some day.

Perhaps I can organise some sort of vacation there...

Amidst intermittent dusting and sniffling, the dark haired woman turned towards her friend and comrade once more.

'Yarrow...You're not from Abestat either, aren't you? Don't you miss your hometown?'

[Yarrow]

Yarrow had been thinking that day that she would like to write a note telling her family that she was still alive, but at the moment she had no means of doing so. Is there even a place to go in Abestat to send a message? She had little to no idea because she had no time to even think about going shopping...let alone looking about for a place to send a message. Yarrow blinked, realizing Keeva had asked her something...

No I am Sherianite...I'm from Taralon. My mother was a house wife and my father was an old sailor. When father hurt his back and couldn't find much work my parents went off to live in Taralon with my older brother Bonsai. Yarrow paused, a smile coming across her face. It had been hard times and she hadn't made it any better...

Then my twin sister and I were born...I being the oldest...and my sister was the youngest. She hadn't come to realize how little Keeva knew...how little anyone knew about her past. It was kind of sad... Yarrow shrugged her shoulders and turned to give Keeva a smile.

I have never told anyone much about my past...I don't know why really... She shrugged again.My family was insane...well...the women in my family were insane. I guess it ran in the family. The women were insane and the men were cursed with clumsy feet. I think the men always got the better end of the deal. Her chuckle danced upon her ears, and her eyes were merry. She turned back to her dusting and fell silent, the glow dropping from her eyes and then her voice. It isn't that simple... She thought next. It is never that simple!

[Keeva Kaldres]

Keeva hastened to wipe a tear away from the corner of her eye, one formed solely because of the miasma of dust that was causing her eyeballs to itch in the most discomforting way.

‘I don’t think you’re insane. I mean, you’re more normal than some of the people I’ve met.’

The dark haired woman hoped that had come out as more of a compliment than an insult. Then again, she had never been that good with words, never skilled at creating the flowery speeches and phrases that most orators seemed to come up with almost effortlessly.

‘Actually…we’ve been through quite a lot together, haven’t we?’ Keeva pause in what she was doing then, as a thoughtful expression lined the contours of her wan face. ‘Hey, Yarrow, are you planning on staying in the army for long?’

[Yarrow]

I hope I'm not insane... She thought to herself for a moment and then shook her head. She rubbed her eyes. They were starting to itch a little bit. Another sneeze was edging through her nose and....HACHEWWWWWWW! Ah! Excuse me! She said shaking her head to clear her senses.

We have been through a lot together, haven't we? She smiled. Why it seems like yesterday that we were at the Quarantine Camp together...killing snakes and waiting until the gates would open... She remembered the snake ordeal too well. She had been bitten by one and could hardly forget pain that easily. I don't know if I am going to stay for a long time or short time, but I do know that I wish to go on a little vacation some time in the near future...or in a little time to come. I think I deserve a break...after all the stuff we have done... She shook her head...accounting for all those things they had been threw...yes she would need a break eventually.

[Keeva Kaldres]

Although it was not really the most appropriate time to do so, Keeva found some sort of madwoman's grin lifting her lips. After all they had been through, all the danger they had faced for the people of Abestat, she had hardly come out with more than a bruise. Fate, it seemed, was a strange and fickle thing.

'I'd like to stay on for as long as I can.' The dark haired young woman spoke, after some substantial length of time had passed. 'Hey, you never know, maybe one day I'll make General, or Commander.'

True, it was a strange thing to wish for, especially considering that she was still young, still had a lot to look foward to in life. But, then again, she would rather see anyone else than Commander Ryefellow leading the army of Abestat. She could not exactly pinpoint why, but that man still reminded her of her own father. A resemblance that did not bode too well in the young woman's mind.

[Yarrow]

You would make a good one once you have training! I would fallow you! She finished the desk and turned about to give Keeva a smile. Her eyes wandered toward the sun. Hmm...maybe I should go to market now before all the stores close. She thought to herself. She bit her lip, wondering if this was a good time to do so. Then she decided to ask her room mate.

Do you think I should go to market now or wait until the morning? She asked her. Yarrow took a few more steps to the window and looked out. What a lovely day it had turned out to be. Corporal first...a new room, shared with a good friend. Life is good right now. Maybe I won't leave so quickly.

[Keeva Kaldres]

'Ahh...Thanks, Yarrow! I know I could always count on you to help me out.'

At that, Keeva looked away from her friend, an embarrassed, yet rueful look beginning to make itself known on her face. Help out? The woman had unknowingly taken an arrow in the back for her, for goodness' sake!

Inwardly scolding herself, Keeva forced herself to look back at her roomate, adorning a more forced smile upon her features.

'Go to the market now, Yarrow. It's a lovely day outside. And you'll probably need the fresh air after inhaling all the dust and Diana-knows-what that's filling this room.'

A natural, wide grin began to reveal Keeva's inner child, as she made to continue dusting once more.

'Go on, and when you get back, I'll have this place nice and shiny and clean. You'll see.'

[Yarrow]

Yarrow smiled and nodded her head. Okay then. I'll be back with things that will make this room presentable! She promised after a hesitation. She didn't want her friend to be the only one to clean up the place....all by herself. It didn't seem right. So she decided she would go out and spend some coin on the room just to be even.

Do you want anything while I am out then? She asked. She moved toward the door slowly and stopped when she reached it. She turned toward Keeva waiting for a reply. Bloom picked up his head with one ear flopped over and the other perked, waiting to see if his master was going out. Ann paid no more mind to his master. He seemed to be happily preening his feathers. All was well.

[Keeva Kaldres]

'Hmm...It will likely take a miracle to get this room looking presentable. That, and a good bit more dusting!'

Keeva waved the piece of cloth that she held in one hand vaguely in the air to enforce her words, the grin till plastered across her face signifying her pleasure, and how humorous she was finding their current situation. First, they get promoted to corporals at an elaborate ceremony; then they find that they have to clean their own room up before they can actually use it? How typical of the army.

'Oh, Yarrow, you don't have to get anything for me. I don't want you spending your coins on me.'

Idly rubbing at one corner of the dust covered thing that was a feeble excuse for her desk, the young woman retained a few moments of silence before she spoke again, as if she were building up some sort of dramatic tension.

'Still...Some food wouldn't go amiss. If you see any cakes, or any sweet things, when you're out, think of me, won't you?'

Again, the grin formed on her face. Inside, she thought once again of how lucky she was to have Yarrow as a friend, comrade, and room mate.

[Yarrow]

Yarrow nodded and pointed to her pack. I have food in there to tie you over, but no sweets...I will make sure to get you some stuff with sugar! Yarrow smiled brightly and gave her friend a little nod.

Come on then Bloom...you want to go do you...? She asked the dog. Bloom barked happily and jumped to his feet. He would never pass up the opportunity to go for a walk out doors.

I will see you in a little bit! She told her friend. Ann wasn't budging from his spot on her bed so she gave him up. If he wanted to leave he would simply fly out the window. She closed their door behind them and was left to wonder toward market with a few goals in mind.
