Question, do you get promoted to corporal from field experience? I've looked around, and I haven't seen anywhere to look for that level of promotion.

Well, I got promoted because of field experience (ie. taking many a bashing in several adventure threads) As far as I know, there aren't any written tests that you have to take in order to reach the rank of Corporal. Hope that helps!

Yes it's field experience. You do not have to be literate to be a corporal and hence no written exam is allowed for it. You must simply display leadership skills and basic military competence, courage, and whatnot.

One more question. If a PC is assigned a certain mission in the military or any other faction, s there also individual payment for successful completion or does the lot and potential for promotion deem that unneccessary?
