Circle of Magic
"Our reality is but a tapestry set before the great loom of existence. Unravel a thread, and one will learn the stitching. Weave in a new pattern, and the fabric becomes something distinct. If the threads are born of different matter, channelled with an essence, then the entire tapestry is remade. We are the weavers of magic, the crafters of spells, and in our gift is a profound and resolute power that shall make and unmake this world." -Archmage Abar, Book of Magic. |

Magic
Magic in the world of Aelyria surrounds everyone and is a part of everything. Only those who have had the veil lifted from their eyes in a ritual called
Unbinding can perceive the mystical essence at the core of the material fabric of the universe. Many people live their existence in ignorant bliss of these essences, the Vis, the inner will from within, and the Ara, the outer forces from without. Properly educated with scholarly discipline, a
Mage, or magic user, can enter a
meditative state and project their inner will into the
Astral Plane,
focus upon the outer forces of the
Essence Plane to which they are attuned, and
channel this power into reality, where they can
shape it into spells. Untrained mages are a threat to the order of the
multiverse and pose a danger to themselves and everyone around them, and yet the existence of
hedgemages and petty
spellcasters proliferates, regarded as an abominable infestation by the magical establishment.
Schools of Magic
As a magical discipline, Arcana encompasses all mystical arts involving the transformation of astral energy into material spells. While there is also much magic harnessed in other ways, it is too crude to be called a discipline in its own right. For practitioners of Arcana, upon being Unbound, they enter their initial trance and focus upon one of the essences, and then become attuned to it. Each sphere of arcana, or School of Magic, draws its power from a single essence, and when its practitioner channels the essence into mana, they shape the spells out of the same energy. Though it is postulated that there are infinite essences, mortals in our world can presently only be attuned to eight of them.
Sorcery
Energy Magic, the Sorcerer draws his power from the Essence of
Force. Bending space and matter, combining energy and mass, the Sorcerer uses force to devastating effect or exacting precision, pushing and pulling apart the world as if but a plaything. Invoking this immense power, Sorcerers can deal devastating destruction. (

Elementalism
Elemental Magic, the Elementalist can unleash the purest forms of destruction by harnessing the Essence of
Element, fire, water, earth, and air. Channeling the full force of these elements into deadly focus, the Elementalist can also summon forth powerful elemental minions to do their bidding. (
Elementalism)
Mysticism
Psionic Magic, the Mystics employ subtlety and distraction to impose their will by commanding the Essence of
Thought. Using their mental accuity to confuse, misdirect, and subdue their opponents, Mystics can bring order to an otherwise chaotic environment or unleash disorder by imposing a paralyzing state of fascination or filling heart with uncontrollable fear. (

Thaumaturgy
Celestial Magic, Thaumaturges use divine power from the Essence of
Life to mend the wounded and cure the suffering of the afflicted. They enhance the fortitude of friends, debilitate their foes, and purge ailments such as disease and poison. Invoking divine wrath, the Thaumaturge can retaliate with unyielding conviction. (
Thaumaturgy)
Druidism
Nature Magic, the Druids invoke their worldly power from the Essence of
Nature to mend wounds, purge disease, and confront poison. Commanding the forces of nature against their foes, Druids can change shape and unleash nature's fury and the unbridled temper of weather. (
Druidism)
Necromancy
Infernal Magic, the Necromancer is the unholy master of decay from the Essence of
Death. Dominating the unliving, Necromancers summon forth undead servants to attack their opponents without fear or hesitation. The Necromancer employs dark magic to drain life, curse and weaken. (
Necromancy)
Bardism
Musical Magic, the Bards inspire and protect their companions through the Essence of
Song. Infusing music with magic, Bards embolden their friends with songs of bravery and heroism into performing feats of courage, while also playing songs of misery, despair, and lamentation to inflict great hopelessness and longing in enemies. (
Bardism)
Iconomancy
Runic Magic, the Iconomancers are shamans that protect and defile through the Essence of
Rune. Mysterious through their craft, they can impose fortune and sway favor, shift probabilities, and alter chances. In battle, the Iconomancer's subtlety unleashes corruption and spiritual enslavement employing ancient rituals to govern luck. (
