It's only a Brightening (closed)

Theying, master herbalist and budding entrepenur, was not so sure that he should be making a stop over in Archadoon. He had places he needed to go and things he needed to do, particularly in Imperia. However, he had met a lovely young woman that he just couldn't leave without saying goodbye to.

It wasn't just that, either. Something made him uneasy about being in Archadoon, just what he couldn't quite say. Still, he didn't want to spend any more time in this town than he had to.

The brightening was, well, bright. It was a lot like the brightening they had met which was less than a cycle prior. There had been an invitation, but now that he was just inside the gate Theying was quite at a loss as to how to proceed.

Alana was halfway down the road when Theying walked through the gate. Her heart gave a little jump when she say him. He looked so lost there and for a moment she felt like letting him try to find his way around but she knew he wouldn't last in this city. So she lifted her arm in the air and called his name.

"Theying, Theying I right here. Theying?"

The new town was quite busy, and noisy. With so much hustle and bussle going on around him, the young man just didn't see the woman he had come to see in the crowd. It was a problem, the city was large and he had virtually nothing to go on. He couldn't just ask random people if they had seen people who fit her description, now could he?

He sighed sadly to himself, eyes sweeping the strange town, and decided to head off towards the center of town. It was more likely to run across someone there rather than meet them randomly right at the gate. It was really too much to expect her to be right there waiting for him.

"He must not be able to see me." Alana thought. Luckly he had started moving in her direction so she tried her best to weave in and out of the people to get to him. It was a busy day and it seemed like whole families had decided to parade in the streets today. As she inched her way closer and closer to Theying the look on his face made her want to laugh. He needed to loosen up. Just as she go close enough to him she made a sharp turn so that he would walk by her. No she was right behind him.

"Gotcha!" Alana yelled as jumped onto his back.

Theying was normally quite proud of his observant nature, but that deserted him this brightening. He made a sound quite like a "GAK" and stumbled into a wall at the sudden and unexpected addition of weight to his frame. The two of them (since she had jumped on top of him) collapsed in a heap. He wasn't hurt or anything, just pleasantly surprised in an unbalanced way.

"Next time," the young man implored. "Please, give warning before you jump on my back. I might then be able to keep my feet if I was expecting it."

"HaHaHa, you are supposed to expect the unexpected are you not." Alana giggled out with a smile. "Plus if I give you warning it takes the fun out of it." Alana could not hold herself back. She sat up and kissed Theying. "I have missed you. I thought you wouldn't come." Alana was so happy tears started to come to her eyes.

Theying welcomed the kiss. And wrapped his arms around her just a bit. He looked straight into her eyes when he spoke.

"I wouldn't say that I would come and just leave," the master herbalist said. "I am told that I am quite trustworthy in that respect. Besides, I want to see you." He was always best at working with the truth. Slowly enfolding her in a closer hug he continued. "I was afaid that I would miss you entirely. I am quite busy and do not have much time, but It's worth to delay thing just a bit to be here with you."

"Busy, must you leave so soon. Why can't you take a break for a while." Alana couldn't hold the sadness and hurt that she felt out of her voice. "I mean, are you hiding something from me?" With these words Alana stood to her feet and turned away from the the eyes of Theying. She wanted him to stay or at least to be with him for more than just a day.

He didn't like hurting her, but there were some things he had to do. "I really don't have a choice," the young mand said. "I am going to Imperia, and I was going to open a shop there. They have all kinds of incentives and what not, but those won't last long. I took advantage of a similar deal to open a place in Paxia already, if I tried the same thing now they would have charged me three times more. I will visit again, don't worry. I said that I wouldn't dissapear on you, and I will not. I don't want to hurt you."

Again, everything the master herbalist said was quite true. Those where his plans for the rest of the season. After that, he wasn't quite sure. Things depending greatly of the outcome of Imperia.

"Well can I come with you?" Alana asked. "I won't be in the way and you and I could be of help. And the best part is we could travel together. You won't have to be alone." Alana looked at Theying with a hopeful smile. Would he allow her to come along? She didn't want to lose than one is was being to love and she felt as if him leaving meant hardships for the both of them.

He lit up for a moment as well, but that didn't quite last as long as it should have. He wouldn't mind traveling with Alana, but things were more complicated than he would like. But that wasn't all of it.

"Don't you have a life here?" the young man asked. "It would be selfish of me to rip you away from what you have built here. It's dangerous out there as well, and I do not know if I could protect you when you need it. Besides, I couldn't take you home with me. My family would not approve of any romantic entaglement at this stage."

"Family, do you mean like a wife family?" Alana did not know what to think. Had she been used. Was she some side dish on his travels. She had truly started to fall in love with this man, but she wasn't going to get angry until she heard his answer.

"My parents in particular would be upset that I'm got sidetracked," Theying replied. "We've always been big on being craftsmen, but this is really the first chance we have gotten to really make a name for ourselves."

He really hadn't made all the connections he should have at this point. Though, come to think of it, Marguerite wouldn't be at all happy with this, either. It would probably be a good idea to tell Alana about that, although it would have to be at a better time. Theying didn't want to hurt anyone.

"I see, but I feel like you are not telling me the whole truth. Do you have a wife Theying? Please tell me the truth. It will only sadden me more if I find out later you lied. Plus, if you tell me the whole truth I might me ok with it." Alana said with a forced smile.

"I am married, to a Jaedaxian woman named Marguerite," the young man answered honestly. "She's an actress who helped me survive when that cat-portal-thing dropped me off in that very insular town without warning. Later, I saved her life by using my abilities to halt the disease when she came down with the Feeble Pox. We have a four-year-old. But, I don't feel the same connection with her that I feel with you."

Theying had always been a bad liar, though he hadn't been trying to lie to her at all.
