Wild River Outdoors Supplies
On an island as densely forested as Arios, it was only a matter of time before a store like Wild River Outdoors Supplies showed up. As the name implied, it had all sorts of materials for pretty much everyone from the casual outdoors enthusiast to a dedicated ranger. The building was a log cabin like most in town, although like the Eunesian Stopover Tavern, it was distinguished because it was a considerable bit bigger than most of the houses. There was a porch with a few rocking chairs and the occasional item for sale, and there was a rectangular sign on the part of the roof that stuck out over the porch, giving the store's name in large letters. A light-blue river was painted below the name on the sign, and dark green pine trees to either side of it.
Inside, there were all sorts of curious outdoors equipment. There were a few canoes hanging on the walls, and plenty of packs, sleeping bags, cooking kits, and some open barrels with various sorts of food in them. An average sized Dorin stood behind the counter, who looked as though he had just been outdoors for an extended period of time.
"Serale," he greeted potential customers, "and how may I help you this brightening?" Even without a fireplace, there seemed to be a warm glow about the shop.

Paul walked into the Wilderness store looking purposeful and knowledgeful. However, the first question he asked of the man behind the counter was, "I assume you carry camping gear? How much is it, if you do indeed carry it?"
He also, as he was asking these two questions, was looking for other items he might need for his journey.

The Dorin gave a nice friendly smile. "Camping gear, sir? Alright," he said, looking beneath the counter and producing a small sheet of yellowed parchment, "here is a list of camping gear, I believe that is consistent with your request."

As Tyndal looked over the list, the Dorin continued, "This is by no means a complete list of our camping gear, let alone the entire store. Just let me know if there's anything specific you were interested in, sir."

"Erm, no.." Paul said, hesitating in answering. "If it is your opinion that I should need these things, then I have no reason to object. However, I will need a sturdy bow, and arrows for that. Do you carry those?"
List of Supplies being bought -
bedroll
mess kit
6" steel spike (4)
splint set (2)
two-man tent
water / wineskin, small, 1 gallon
reed whistle
Total: 153 Crowns

The Dorin smiled. "Very well, sir," he said with a nod, "your purchase indeed comes out to 153 Crowns. As for bows, yes, we carry them. Presently we are plumb out of composite longbows, which pack quite the punch, but we do have a few small composite models left for 175 apiece. Then we have long wooden bows for 180 and small wooden ones for 105. In addition, we have bundles of a dozen arrows for 12 Crowns and a small quiver that holds a dozen for 30 Crowns."
The clerk would collect the appropriate amount from Paul before giving him the items which he had purchased. "Serale, and thank you for shopping at Wild River," he would say as he bid the half-elf farewell.

(( You didn't think my math was that bad, didja? :P ))
After thinking it over, Paul chose to get the long wooden bow, for the range it would proved him in the case of hunting, and if it got to it, battling. As well as that, he obtained a bundle of arrows and the quiver.
Items Being Purchased:
long wooden bow - 180 Crowns
Quiver - 30 Crowns
Arrows (12) - 12 Crowns
Total: 222
Total of Purchase:
First Set - 153
Second Set - 222
Total: 375
(( Just a little note for myself ))
500
-375
125

Gareth Gruven flew into the shop, slipping in just before the door closed behind Paul. Luckily for him as well, for he probably would not have been able to open the gigantic door (compared to his size) if he had even tried. Hovering around until the clerk ahd finished with his customer, the platinum haired, energetic sprite would approach the Dorin, a cheerful grin playing his lips. "Serale Sir, I was wondering if you sold any extra extra small bows that might be used by someone like me? And a quiver and 20 arrows as well? I know it's a rather odd request..." he spoke with hesitation, and his cheeks flushed with embarassment. However, the courageous little Sprite continued talking. "I was also wondering if this place happened to have a dark green cloak that would blend in with the forest or a shrub...my size of course," he spoke with a grin. He knew he didn't have too many crowns, a small maximum of only 500. But first thing was first, defense, and then clothing. He would be able to hunt plenty of food in the forest should he need it.

The Dorin chuckled and grinned, bearing his canines. "It's not the first request like that I've heard," he said, "even if most Fae folk do choose to wield Arcana as their weapon. I suppose if you want to be an archer, I'm not one to stop you. That lil' bastard Sal seems to be spreading his influence everywhere these days, heh heh." He went looking around the room and finally found something, a twinkle appearing in his yellow eye. He grabbed a small bow and brought it over to Gareth...but there was a problem.
The bow was orange. It was an atrocious bright orange. It was really an awful color. The clerk grinned sheepishly. "It's a toy bow, in case you were wondering," he admitted, "but it'll shoot regular arrows just fine. A normal short bow's probably too big for you." He came back out from the counter and fetched a large quiver off the wall. The quiver was large by regular standards, so it was huge for Gruven. The Dorin bent below the counter and put 20 arrows into it and handed the full quiver to the sprite - surely it was heavy for the little man.
"The bow's a bit small and the quiver's a bit big, but the cloak will be just right," he promised as he went to an area of the store with some outdoors clothing. Unlike weapons, they were readily made to fit all races. He got a nice pine-green cloak and brought it over as well. Sure Dorins were colorblind, but the clerk had the shop all but memorized and had that pointed out to him by other races.
"Your total comes out to 117," he informed the man, stifling laughter. With his undersized bow and oversized quiver, he was a comical sight indeed.
OOC: That's just for flavor, of course, you don't really have to go around like a bumbling fool.

OOC: Of course
IC: Gareth nodded with understand as the Dorin spoke, his eyes glinting in a sort of wearied way. "The bow will do fine, I suppose I can repaint it later..and the quiver shall do fine...I'm nearly sure theres a way to fix everything," he said politely, but his voice strained slightly at the sight of the bow. It was an awful color, how on earth did the Dorin manage to get his paws on such a thing. Any kid would have had to have gone mad to buy such a pitiful, ugly bow such as that, yet here he was, a small naive Sprite, buying the blasted thing. 'At least I can say I'm doing a good thing by saving a poor child who's parents would buy them such a thing...' he thougth with a sigh.
There was one thing that made him smile though, and that was the fact that the pine-green cloak would actually fit his size. With a quick grin, he nodded his head and counted out the proper amount of currency, before fluttering down to the coutner and laying it there. After the Dorin had received his pay, Gareth would slip on the cloak, strap the quiver onto his back, but flippign it around so that it was on his chest -so that it may be easier to carry until he unloaded the arrows at home-, and took the toy boy within his hands. With that, he cheerfully bobbed his head and glided out of the room, though weighed down with the filled quiver.

Paul casually walked into the shop, patiently waiting for the Dorin behind the counter to finish with a customer that had been in the store when Paul had walked in. He could do no other, for he had also had mannerisms to put the best gentlemen of Prime to shame by his parents. After the Dorin was done, Paul smiled as the storekeeper walked over to get his order.
With teh Dorin in front of him, Paul asked, "My good sir, you may remember me from when I first came in here. This is where I bought my first set of supplies, and I thank you very much, for they have served my superbly. However, because of my recent training, I feel that I could use, if at all possible, a better bow. Not saying that the one you first gave me is in any way deficient... but, surely you understand? I mean, it is only a plain wooden bow... I should like to have a unique one to benefit me as I rise in the ranks of heros in Alleria." Paul spoke confidently, and listening to him, one could not help but want to rally behind his banner. However, he inside hoped he had not in any way offended his server, and waited for an answer with an uneasy look on his face.
He had never been one to hide emotions.

The platinum haired Sprite bobbed his head up and down the street as he imagined an enchanting melody playing nearby. Of course, there really wasn't a melody or song being sung, he just liked the excuse for imagining music. Dark green almond-like eyes stared out into the space in front of him as piny green wings carried him to his destination. The Outdoor Supply store. You see, Gareth had recently met a man, which had something in common with the Sprite. The man had wanted to be a Ranger. And as he found this out over a steaming hot dinner of mushroom stew, he realized how much more and more he liked this man altogethor.
And the realization had finally dawned upon him. If he was going to be a Ranger, he needed a man to watch his back, and in return, he would watch that man's back. That man was Paul Tyndal. As the Sprite glided into the door and approached the clerk, he greeted the Dorin with a rather friendl smile before saying, "I would like two cotton shirts and a knapsack that can carry a change of clothes and food in...also a bedroll, a 4 oz. of wound packing, and a bone whistle..." he spoke with a grin. He patiently hovered in front of teh Dorin, wondering what the chances were that he might turn into a evening meal.

Paul Tyndal
Though not a mean person, the Dorin clerk had to resist the urge to laugh at his customer. Heroes of Alleria? Who exactly did this half-elf think he was? Still, it was not his place to pass judgment and for all he knew Paul had been appointed by Ioannes to save the Empire in a Fourth Cyraxian War. Perhaps the bow he was about to sell would fell Jorel himself. The urge to chuckle rose yet further. "I understand," the clerk said, "but there isn't much I can do for you at this point. As I said, we have no composite longbows in, and I'm not an archery expert like Sal and I can't say whether a composite short bow would be a step up or down. They're 175 apiece."
Gareth Gruven
Ah, another repeat customer. Wild River must have been doing something right; the Dorin gave himself a pat on the back for good service. "Welcome back, sir," he greeted the sprite. After hearing the new order, the Dorin wandered about the store, quickly fetching all of the requested items.
"Alright then, fourty for the shirts," he began, orally counting the total up, "fourty for the bag, ten each for the bedroll, wound packaging, and whistle. Seventy Crowns, sir."

The Sprite bobbed his head happily at the Dorin, and quickly took out 70 crowns. Placing them on the counter, he quickly took the clothes and folded them neatly into the bag, along with the wound packaging. The whistle however, he stuffed into a deep pocket of his cloak, keeping it there lest he need it for later. "My thanks to you sir, I am sure I will be here again sometime within the next week perhaps," he said with a cheerful smile as he took the bacpack and carried it out the door.

A few minutes had passed when Gareth ahd left, before he immediatly came rushing back in, his knapsack slung hap-hazardly over his left shoulder. "I almost forgot!" he exclaimed in an excited voice as he glided straight back to the counter. The dark green almond-like eyes stared up at the wild Dorin, and for a split second he felt sorry for being so rude. He was nearly positive that the Dorin had never had a customer return so quickly in his life! "I forgot a few items I'll be needing to construct a room for a friend of mine," he spoke with a grin as he set the knapsack back on the counter, ready to fill it with even more stuff. "I'll be needing a hatchet, a pound of nails, a hammer that would fit me, and thats it!" he beamed happily as he readied himself to dish out more money to the man. He would be constructing a room for Paul, or at least try to. He knew it wouldn't be perfect, heck he wouldn't even have a door, it would simple be a small pavilion with a flat roof...maybe an open space for a window if he could make it. Other than that, the Sprite would be well on his way.

Paul saw the look of first disbelief, and then amusement at his comment, but he let it pass. Indeed, it only served to strengthen his resolve to become the best. "I'll show this guy, and all the guys who don't believe, what I can do!" he thought, triumphantly.
"Can you, by any chance, order custom-made bows?" Paul asked. After the Dorin had answered, Paul gave him a list of items he thought that a ranger should have in going about his work. That list ran as:
Quote:
firewood
packs (2)
rations for one medium-sized person and a sprite
fishing pole and hooks
rope
gloves (2 pair)
boots (2 pair)
camoflauged cloaks (2)
dagger (2)
|
Before the question could be put to him, he said matter-of-factly, "I'm buying for myself and another." He said no more, and waited for the shopkeep to gather his items.
