Tome Rinmacar School of History

In the second era after the Aetherfracture, a small elven family moved to Arios from the province of Centripax, the Rinmacar family. The Rinmacars were elves of Silrosian blood who lived for history. The study of history completely fascinated them to no end. In fact, the couple first met in a library. Each was reading historical books, and their mutual love of history soon budded into mutual love for each other. Huor Rinmacar and Nindë Lúinwë were wed a few eras thereafter. Their affinity for all things history was proven yet again at the birth of their first and only son when they named him Sremalis, after an Ancient Allerian orator and politician of the same name. Naturally Sremalis soon became rather interested in history as well, though not quite as much as his parents.

Early in Era X-PF, the Rinmacars decided to open a small school of history for the citizens of Arios, using their personal library of historical texts. They alternated teaching classes and offered some of the money to Sremalis if he was interested in teaching some, but for the most part their son was off developing his natural Arcane talents with other Ariosans. They operated the school out of their own home. Like many other buildings on the island, it was in a log cabin style. They slept in a loft above, with three large rooms on the main floor - a kitchen, a common room, and, of course, a library. It was in the library that the classes would most often be taught, though in the summer and spring they anticipated some outdoor classes.

When a traveler entered the Rinmacar household, he would undoubtedly find both Huor and Nindë, though Sremalis was seldom around. The elven parents were graceful, like most of their kind, both with stereotypical blonde hair, thin builds, and pointed ears. Nindë's hair came down past her shoulders and could usually be found in a soft, silk-like aquamarine dress. Huor, on the other hand, usually wore a modest white cotton shirt and puffy blue trousers. His wife often playfully teased him that he dressed like a human, but that was true. Generally they waited for prospective students to say hello and indicate which class they wanted, for the following note was posted by their front door.

Quote:

The Rinmacars were sitting in their library one brightening, reading history books that they had read at least a dozen times before through and through. They didn't mind this, though, and were content to scan the books again, hoping to find some secret or deduce a previously hidden fact. A quiet, timid knock came at their door and Huor signaled to his wife that he would get it. He sat his book down on his chair and made his way over to the door. It was probably opened quite rapidly, since the elf was anticipating a prospective student to be standing before him.

However, the person there at the door was not likely a student. He was an Esh'lahier elf, and an old, frail one who leaned on a gnarled blanchwood walking stick. "Hello, sir," he greeted the light elf, with traces of wheezing in his voice. "My name is Cha'dorta, and I am a scholar of my Esh'lahier people. I've come to Arios to retire, but your establishment interests me. I am willing to teach a class about the history of my people for very small amounts per class. Does this interest you, young sir?"

Smiling at being called young, Huor answered cheerily, "I think we could arrange that, Mister Cha'dorta." Most probably would not have expected such a reaction from a light elf to an Esh'lahier, but through their extensive studies the Rinmacars were well aware of the differences between them and the Vysstichi, and they were able to recognize the former as the good folk that they were, much more often that people thought they were. "Leave your address with me," he continued, "and I shall contact you if we have any interested persons."

Cha'dorta left his address before the two both thanked each other and chuckled. The old Esh'lahier scholar hobbled off into town as Huor shut the door. He then readied a quill to add the new class to the note outside.

Argon walked up the house of the Rinmacar's, who he was told, teach history. Now Argon had always been interested in history, but never over excessive, so he decided that maybe these classes would help him in the future and he figured that they would also be fun and interesting. When he was within eyeshot of the cabin it was a little larger then most of the cabins on the island but still had the same log cabin look to it.

When Argon reached the door he knocked on the door three times and awaited for someone to answer.

As the three nocks resounded into the empty library Mister Rinmacar excitedly moved to the doors, he opened it quickly and had to look down to see the sprite, though he shouldnt be used to that by now.

"Serale sir," The elvish male greated, "What can I do for you this fine evening?"

"Well I have always been interested in history and I heard that if I wanted to learn more...this was the place to come," Argon said excitedly. Fore he couldn't wait until he got his first lesson. "I am not sure what exactly ye teach but I am sure that I want to learn something," Argon continued, "I am very eager to learn my first lesson."

When the Rinmacar showed him the sign Argon felt supid. Fore it was right in front of him the whole time and he was a little embarrassed. "Ah then laddie, I would be very interested in...well definitely Basic Allerian History, and also...ah the Ire and Khardran War," Argon spoke as he read the sign. Then he looked back up to the Rinmacar and hoped that he had made good choices. He awaited eargerly for the man's response and was very entoused and couldn't wait until his first class.

"Alright," Huor said, "That will be 65 crowns, and if you return tomarow then we will begin. But if you would like to get a head start then I can give you some books to read about general allerian history." Haveing said that the old elvish man put his hand up signaling for the sprite to stay there, then he went around the corner of the door, out of sight, to a book shelf ware he took down two books. "Here you go, sir," Huor said holding out the books, "If your interested in getting started early, that is."

OOC: for the contents of the books look at some general history in the compendium. For your returning the next day, make a new thread.

Argon watched as the man went to get some books and as he did so, he began to count out the crowns and when Huor brought him the books he handed him the 65 crowns. "Yes, I shall definitely start reading, and here are your crowns," Argon said holding his hand out signaling the man to take the crowns that lay in it. Then he looked down at the books and then back up at the man. "Thank you sir, I shall be back tomorrow awaiting eagerly for the class. In the meantime I will be reading thy books ye gave me," Argon said with a brief smile then he turned around and hovered over the ground back to the inn in which he was standing.

OOC: Uhm, I hope this is still open^^;;? Jeez, I haven't posted in Arios for so long, but I need to be moving on!

IC:He made his way through the city that never slept, his purple hood pulled tight over his head to blot out the sunlight. It would ever sting his eyes even though he had seen it since birth. A burden, but a light one at that and it barely bothered him anymore. Though somedays, it proved quite fatal as he nearly missed the place he had been searching for...the school of history. It was here that he would lay his first plans of travel. He knew his destination, but not the way, and the empire was too large to simply wander about hoping to find the city.

He had come by the place many times but never gone in, for he was always fearful of his journey and what might happen to him if he ever undertook it...but too much time had been lost and he needed his past more than ever. He walked in, paying no heed to the sign on the door. "Serale good elf...I seek a map. I figure what better place than a school of history." He reached which his robe and pulled forth a small bag of 100 crowns and ringing its contents to the elf infront of him. "I seek a map that has the way to Arconis from here and I would hope that it doesn't cost to much, for my mind isn't as...sane as it used to be."

A smile spread across his face and he lowered his hood, afterall, he was inside and he had yet to fear raical predjudice among the folks who lived in Arios.

OOC2:Sorry if there's alot of spelling errors, ahd to write this up quick^^

Huor Rinmacar gazed at the hooded stranger curiously as he entered his household and stated his request for a map. A map with the way from Arios to Arconis... quite an unusual piece of equipment, thought the Elf. "Well, good sir" Huor began "this is not exactly our specialty, though we do have maps of the various provinces of the Empire as well as the knowledge to trace a route from here to Arconis. I think I could sell you maps of Eunesia, Carmelyn, Centripax, Arium and Enamoria, and then draw the specific route you are interested in."

He smiled at the sight of a small bag of Crowns being flashed out by the stranger, but his smiled turned sour when Solaris exposed his true visage, his hair and eyes. Huor's own eyes narrowed for an instant, surprised at that particular turn of events. It took him a few seconds to come up with a reply, his tone significantly colder that it had been, but still polite enough, even for Elven standards. "Though, unfortunately, since it's five maps we are talking about, I'm afraid this is going to cost you five hundred Crowns instead. And I am truly sorry about your mind, good elf" he added, slightly stressing the words "but seeing as my own mind is still working perfectly, I'm here to actually make some profit off this school. I am certain you will understand..."

Huor waited for his prospective customer's reply. Threats would not easily move him, and like most Ariosians he had received formal education in the Arts of Arcana... An angelic smile formed on his lips as he faced the half-Vysstichi who was looking for a map.

He had smiled when the elf spoke of the maps and it sounded like his journeys start would be easy indeed. Though the fact the man went through the names of five provinces shook him a bit. He had never seen a full map of Alleria, but knew that many provinces were held within its lands...five would be a long way indeed. He knew he was currently in Eunesia and had once traveled through Centripax to go onto Syl'rosya, he had also lived in the Carmelyn Province for quite some time when he had been in the army there...his smile only grew wider as he realized just how far he had gone to Syl'rosya...then gone mostly all the way back running in fear.

Though the smile soon was gone and he sighed...should he have really expected less racial hatred or any at all? No...He knew this answer to be true in his heart, but he didn't want to accept it. Would it really matter if he found out his past and still had skin this dark...no, the elves would never let him in the gates, not after the war. His only way in was through Motito who could create the portals that jumped one across land instantly.

He waited a moment to respond, trying to think of what to do. He needed these maps...but would he be able to trust them? He could only hope the elf was only mildly racist and that his work ethics wouldn't permit him to lead a traveler the wrong way. Silently, he placed the bag of crowns back into his robe and pulled out a larger one, bulging with crowns he had gotten at Ieffreon bank. He bent down and poured them onto the ground carefully counting out 600 crowns. He picked those 600 back up and put them in the bag, then scooped up the rest and deposited them into his other bag. It must have truly been an odd site to see a half-breed bent over a mound over 1450 crowns, but he really didn't care, he needed his map. He held them out to the elf, his red eyes full of…pity as he looked at him. The poor elf would most likely be forever constrained by his ignorant hate, and so Solaris pitied him.

"That’s 600 crowns good elf, I put in the extra hundred for your profit. I had hoped that the color of my skin would not have affected anything here, but it has. So I again do hope, I hope that the color of my skin does not diminish the accuracy nor the quality of the maps that I shall acquire from you...good sir" He didn't want to seem to be spiteful, but truly he was saddened that his skin had affected the deal...perhaps he should have just stayed hidden on this island forever, but his soul would have not permitted him to do so.

Huor's eyes narrowed gracefully as he watched Solaris express his views on racism and not only agree to the lightborn's term, but also offer more than the already exorbitant price the Elf had demanded. Even Elves, despite their long lifespans and the insight that they supposedly acquired from their experiences, could be surprised every once in a while. He had expected the Dark Elf to burst out in a fit of blind rage, almost letting himself slip into a state of Clara in order to react swiftly to a possible assault, but it seemed that Solaris was in desperate need for those maps. Huor himself was a man of professional ethics, and for that very reason he had kept himself from blasting the stranger out of his household the very moment he had found out his real heritage. As unsavory as the prospect of doing business with a Vysstichi could be, Solaris' money did not smell like Vysttichi and he needed the Crowns badly. History was not exactly the most profitable of arts.

"Splendid, absolutely splendid, good elf" he replied, collecting the pouch of Crowns with a slender hand. "Though you probably need a short refresher course on why any self-respected member of my race is supposed to nurture the desire to undo any member of yours. And what a coincidence, we teach History here – there's no way we could forget. This being said, the maps shall lack neither quality nor accuracy. Unlike certain other races, when we put our mind into something, we are not satisfied till the result carries the mark of perfection, no matter how long it takes. I will trace the routes myself later today; they will be ready tomorrow in the morning."

Huor hefted the bag with one hand to make sure the weight was correct for the given amount of Crowns and continued, rather emotionlessly: "If you do not have further requests, I will be bidding you serale, sir."
