It's been a rough month. Literally. Floods, car wrecks, all sorts of life transitions just tumbled through one after another. Yule came and went without incident and things started calming down.
We even called off Christmas because I was working a great deal of OT (to make up for missing days during the flood) and having very little finances because of all the cleanup thereafter.
I'm working tonight, in fact. It's ironic too. Very ironic.

It all started with a bad night at work. I went in knowing it was going to be a bad one too. We all have them. I had a sore foot, was limping, and there was a torrential downpour going on outside. In the cyclic world of my Aelyrian identity as Gossamer (and several pcs), I find myself contemplating some of the realities of just what I do here on Aelyria. Most people think that Moderators are guides, helpers, people that steer the ship and keep things going smoothly. And certainly, sometimes thats true. But I think the good moderators, the ones with a lot of threads and who are usually knee deep in the thick of things, will tell you its all about the perks.

I think sometimes people do things for the wrong reasons.
The best moderators do things for their own pleasure. Sounds selfish, doesn't it? But I believe its true. It shines through in their work. They might say they did it because so and so wanted it... or such and such was needed. But when it boils down to it, being successful on Aelyria means putting bits and pieces of yourself here and there, organizing, fussing, nit-picking and sometimes going toe to toe with stubborn...

It's my Friday night, and its been an absolutely amazing one. It didn't start out that way. When someone's sleeping daytimes and working all night, any little interruption can make their life a living hell for their 'day' once they get up and it gets dark. Everyone and their dog called, and since I was using my cellphone for a n alarm clock, I didn't have it shut off. Just about on the half hour marks all day someone called. So it put me in a foul mood about four pm when I had to start...
