Time Stamp: Month of Pontius 1st Brightening.


These path month's Elmaryia had experienced many changes in her life, she was now Miss Leonard and was now the Imperial Consul of Carmelyn. The prospect of being her husband's boss still amused her and she was not above teasing him about it. During one brightening Elmaryia's freedom was almost taken away from her. The memory of Arrientus declaring his ownership of her infront of friends and family still angered her.

It was quite embarassing to have ones skeletons dragged from a closet. Though after the shock had wained off her friends had showed their support. Miss Elmaryia Grey Leonard was very blessed with such loyal and kind friends. Once she arrived in Diana her and Lady Govenor Aerienna would have a lengthy discussing about slavery. The purpose of this visit was to speak to the thane as well as learn sorcery. Since she was a little girl Elmaryia had always been fascinated with the arcana sphere.

Only the beaches of Iefferon rivaled the ones of Demois and Elmaryia found great pleasure in walking the sandy beaches and feeling the sand between her toes. Myst her female ghostbane was prancing in the sand and barking as she chased some of the birds. She was almost half grown now and was past Elmaryia's knees.

Hoping to save the poor birds, Elmaryia grasped a thick stick and threw it. With a happy bark Myst paused in bothering the birds and ran in the direction of the stick.

As she walked along the beach, she noticed a man coming in the other direction. He was rather formally dressed, and wore a bowler hat upon his head and carried a walking stick. Myst gave him the eye, perhaps wondering it he was about to throw the stick he was carrying.

"Serale," the man said pleasantly. "That is quite a nice animal you have there."

Upon seeing the finely dressed man, Elmaryia greeted him with a smile. The walking stick in his hand, had indeed caught Mists's eye and she wagged her tale in anticipation hoping that he would throw it. " Greetings to you as well. It is a fine brightening is it not?" Mist was a wonderful companion kind and quite intellegent, but she had a short attention span. Figuring out that the man was not going to throw the massive stick, she ran out to grab her own.

" Yes she is a wonderful companion but has a rather short attention span. My name is Elmaryia Leonared and it is a pleasure to meet you." Waiting a moment for him to introduce herself she then continued. " Have you been in Demois long?

The man took tipped his hat to her. "Garit Sevenstars, at your service." He seemed to be some sort of elf, and his pointed ears were readily apparent. What variety of elf he was was difficult to say. He was all over shades of gray, with light pearly gray skin, silvery gray hair, and dark gray eyes.

"I am pleased to meet you and your loyal companion. Do you mind if I throw that stick for her? I hate to be a disappointment, and I'd prefer not throwing my own. But no, I've not been in Demios long, only a few brightenings in fact. I came to apply for the job of bartender at the Crystal Garden, which will be opening in the spring, and I'm happy to say that I landed the position. Although I must now be considered biased on the subject, I do believe the place will be something special."

"Are you a native of Demios?"

" It is a pleasure to meet you Garit." Elmaryia said with genuine warmth as they walked upon the sandy beaches. Upon hearing the word stick, Mist barked happily and wagged her tale. Upon seeing the reaction of her dog Elmaryia giggled softly. " I do believe that is an excellent idea, though she does not understand the concept of fetch. Once you throw the stick it is difficult to get it back. The Crystal gardens now what does that buisness offer?" Elmaryia asked inquesitively.

" I have not been here long myself, just visiting. I am the Imperial Consul of Carmelyn and am here for buisness and a vacation. I have some friends here as well that I hope to visit."

Garit tossed the stick for the dog, sending far up the beach to give her room to run. With a smile he said "It is best to be philosophical about these things. If we cannot get the stick back, the beach will provide us with another."

Garit's eyebrows rose when he heard the woman he was casually chatting with on the beach was in fact an imperial Consul. He quickly reviewed his conduct, and decided that he had not said anything offensive. He suspected that if Elmaryia wanted to be treated like a grandee she would have been traveling with a retinue or at least imperial costume. Still...

"Forgive me your excellency, I did not realize you were a person of high station, else I should not have approached you so informally. Still, perhaps you walk the beach for a break from formality? In any event, let me know if you wish me to tighten my conduct and I shall instantly oblige."

"The Crystal Gardens is to be a grand resort. It is the brainchild of Viskiya Crow, who otherwise is a notable jeweler. If you are here long enough to attend the opening I know we would all be very pleased to have a person of your stature attend, and I can certainly promise you a drink of you choice on the house."

" I never was one to fancy titles, please call me Elmaryia, and yes I am here to enjoy a walk along the shore. The city is quite beautiful and I do love the beaches. Indeed their is nothing to forgive so their is no need to ask," Elmaryia said with a chuckle as she lightly patted Garit's arm. The former slave was far from a high born lady, and her quams surpased wether their was far to much sugar in her tea. Nay Elmaryia Grey did not let such frivilous things cloud her mind.

The mention of Vyskia Crow brought a smile of fondness. The young woman was fearless and kind, the jewller was a treasured friend of Elmaryia's. It seemed as though her ambitious friend had another buisness on the horizon. " I know Viskyia Crow she is a treasured friend, and a damn fine woman. I adore her and think of fondly. Though I did not know about this Crystal Gardens. I am sure that it shall be a wonderous place. When is the brightening of its opening?"

Garit seemed visibly relieved. "I'm glad to hear you feel that way. I rather think that I would be the same if I held a position of power. I would think that holding yourself above everyone would be more lonely than anything else, but then again I've never been in the position to test that belief."

"Viskiya does seem like quite a woman, I am most pleased to have gotten to make her aquaintance. The plan is to open the Crystal Garden in spring, and although chaos reigns supreme I believe it shall be ready on the appointed date. If you can come visit us, I can promise you a drink unlike any you've had before."

Indeed upon times Elmaryia's positon could be quite lonely particularly during the darkening's when she was alone with her thoughts. " Yes at times it can be lonely as you are away from your home for many brightening's sometimes. Also I have been recently married. Though my husband Straylor is also in politics and is the current Thane of Trysvale. Were you born in Demois? It is quite lovely to have such beautiful beaches near by Trysvale. I also fancy the exotic shops. During one of these shops I purchased Mist," Elmaryia said with a smile as she gently scratched her dog behind the ears.

" Oh I would love to come during the opening of the Crystal Gardens. So shall it be a resort of sorts? What sort of services shall the establishment offer?"

Garit smiled. "Well congratulations on your marriage! It's pleasing to know that there is at least one extremely lucky man in the empire. I imagine it was quite a wedding, I wish I could have been there."

"I am actually a very recent immigrant to Demios, I grew up near Archadoon. I came here to answer an advertisement in the Herald, and I believe I'll stay here. The weather keeps you on your toes, which I suppose is a good thing if you think positively. I must admit, I have not been to the exotic shops as yet. I have to be careful with my money until I am sure of my income."

"How is it traveling with a dog? I grew up with 20 brothers and sisters and untold grandchildren, and believe I will soon have to make some sort of arrangements to get a companion. A room with only one person in it seems lonely to me."

"But you had asked about the Crystal Garden. To be completely candid I just applied for a job there and perhaps do not have a comprehensive understanding of their services, but I do know that they have a massage spa, a pool, an aviary, and extensive gardens. And of course a bar, which I hope to make unique."

Indeed the wedding had been very dramatic with Aerrentus making his presence and Aerrene casting her spell which had the unforseen affect of making her guests feel the pain that slaves endured. That brightening all of her secrets were exposed to the citizen's of Trysvale and her friends and family. " It was a wonderful occasion a bit of dramatics, but then again what is a wedding with out dramatics", Elmaryia asked with a chuckle as the two continued to walk down the beach.

" This is only my third visit to Demois but each time I have been blessed with splendid weather. Though I have heard that the weather can be quite unpredictable. It is strange in Trysvale the snow can come up to one's door at times."

At the mention of Mist, Elmaryia chuckled as the dog ran towards the surf of the ocean and pranced about getting her paws wet. " Well I have two dogs but it is difficult to bring both of them. My other dog is an Aleryian hunter named Arria. Though a companion does take off the edge of lonelyness. Also with my new found position I have been travelling alot and spending some time away from my husband. Though that is a lot of siblings. I only had a twin sister. Are you close to your siblings?"

"Oh yes, weddings are all about drama. That is the magic of them, I suppose. You can love each other all to pieces, but it is good to mark the beginning of your offical time together with a memorable event."

When Elmaryia asked if Garit was close to his siblings, he stopped and considered. "I suppose the answer must be yes. Not that I haven't tried to get away from them, you understand." He said with a smile. "I love them all, but there are so many of them, and they all have favors to ask. In my family, one had to learn to forget birthbrightenings as a survival skill, lest one consign themselves to the poorhouse from buying birthbrightening presents."

"So let me ask a question that perhaps approaches personal a little too much for comfort's sake. Do you see being consul as an opportunity to improve the empire? Or is it mostly an exercise in putting out fires to keep the empire from collapsing?"

At the mention of Garit's siblings and the many birth-brightening's, Elmaryia chuckled softly.She had bet that it would be quite expensive. " Yes I do bet that it would be quite costly to provide so many birth brightening presents,". Never before had Elmaryia ever celebrated her birth-brightening nor had she ever recieved a gift. Her childhood had been a sorrowful one binded into servitude to a unfeeling master.

Indeed the job of a public servant could be a tricky one. " My intentions are to better my province as well as aid the empire. Prince Milo is a fair and just man. I could not take a position of I did not have faith in the man that was leading the empire."

It was getting late and Mist had become encased with sand and sea weed. She would need a bath, and also the travelling had made the young woman weary. Smiling at her dog Elmaryia gently called her name and beckoned her near. " Garit I fear that Mist has been incased with much of the ocean. I shall have to bath her. My husband and I have a residence in Trysvale once the resort is open I would love to attend. If you would be so kind to send a letter and informing me about the opening that would be lovely. It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope to see you again," Elmaryia said truthfully and with out an ounce of fakeness.

"That is good," he said when he heard her answer. "And I am glad you hear your good opinion of Prince Milo as well. I fear that we may be in for interesting times, if you know what I mean. It is good to see the people at the helm to be dedicated and enthusiastic."

"But I shan't keep you. I am very pleased to have met you, and I will without fail send you information on the Crystal Gardens."

He tipped his hat in a friendly gesture of parting.
