[Laenche Avaul]

2nd Cycle Melora of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum


Almost at the center of town stood his destination. He had overheard that it might be possible to obtain a job from there, something he would need to procure before he made a name for himself. Laenche Avaul was exhausted, lost for the most part, and alone in the world. His missing memory made it difficult for Laenche to remember anything and he found it hard to realize his place in the world. Since he didn't know where to start, he thought to just do the basics: get a job and strive to do his best. Afterall, he was still yound and would have time later in life to figure things out.

The Prefect's Office soon loomed ahead of him. Laenche's small stature accentuated the fact that it was an intimidating building, especially for one without a memory. It seemed to be one of the more clean-cut buildings on the island of volcanic descent, which helped prove its importance. With a wooden sign announcing the building's use and the barred windows, Laenche was afraid if he walked in he wouldn't walk out. Laenche strolled up calmly to the iron door, took a deep breathe, then walked inside.

The waiting room was well lit, and for this mottera it took a moment for his fragile eyesight to adjust. He glanced around and took in his surroundings. He saw eight chairs on a wooden floor, and after a short wait he was soon allowed to see the man himself- Saka, Prefect of Demios.

He walked into his office, and yet again took in the sights. A mace laid waiting in the corner on a weapon rack, as if lying in wait to soon pounce into the prefects hand and beat Laenche into doing its bidding. There was also a wall of a door, presumably leading to the gaol itself. After clearing his throat, he states...

"Serale sir. Oi dont suppose you'd have any openings for a job? Oi sure could use something to get by on and Oi'm willing to offer moi services for a fee. That is, if you'll have me."

Saka being the kind person he was looked up from his desk as he smiled at the new person, an young child like person he saw from his light blue eyes, his golden hair slightly in his eyes as he pushed it back, his hand having a few cuts that were rather fresh, they were showing along his rich tan he got from his life on the island.

He had been perfect for a few months but this was the first time someone was asking for an job from him, most went elsewhere due to there own reasons. He rolled the idea along his tongue like it was a sweet bread before he spoke but he kept his smile greeting the new person.

"It would be rather pointless if you paid to get an job don't you think. Please take a seat, sorry for the mess still trying to fix things new office and all." His voice was soft, like silk warping around the body slowly rubbing along the skin.

"So my young new visitor please tell me about yourself, do you have an name? Few people come to me for an job offer due to the somewhat lack of crime and what dangers could happened on the job. Truth be told we don't need that many guards even if we have a small handful but I don't see why I could not help you. A kind person once helped me a lot when I first came to this island for the first time last season." He said as he put an large quill down on his desk, it's color was an deep red mixed with black strips.

His outfit of choice for now was an silk deep red shirt, black silk pants, an black leather belt, thigh high hard boots with silver lockings along the upper part. The outfit had an winter coat and hat with it but they were not on him as of now due to it was rather warm in his office.

Laenche was amazingly soothed by the sound of the prefect's voice. He was happy to know that there was a friendly face even though he still didn'y know much about him, but there was always time for that. For now, there was business at hand.

"Thank ya very much sir. If it makes ya feel better, your office isn't that bad, Oim a mottera remember?"

Laenche gave a small chuckle, and appropriately sat himself down in the seat. Though the office seemed slightly stuff, his standard garb- the same cotton tunic and trousers he arrived on the island in- allowed him to still be relatively relaxed, immediately allowing him to be comfortable in the office. With the man behind the desk, the prefect began goading him into describing himself. Laenche paused for a second, just to ponder his response, then worded himself carefully to not sound overly lost in the world.

"Well, to be honest, oi dont know much abote moi past. I have forgotten moi past loife and so far hav no hope for reclaiming it. This, I just wish to go on with moi loife and work past it. Any job will do for me, really. Moi name is Laenche. Laenche Avaul moi good sir. Oi figured really going to the head of town of sorts and so came to you. Everyone starts somewhere roight?"

At this, he afforded him his biggest smile to show his good intentions, and he was sincerely willing to work his hardest for the kind man.

So the young Laenche was lost more or less, judging from his clothing he was new to the island, right now it was rather cold from the storms they had almost daily right now. The dragons were not happy about the mines shutting down it seemed.

It was getting close to lunchtime Saka's stomach let him know due to his lack of eating in the past few candlemarks. And from seeing his new guest maybe he would also like some hot food.

"Lets go for an walk, I hope you are in the mood for some good food." He said as he stood up, walking behind his large chair pulling an coat and hat on an small chest that was near the wall. The coat was rather long, deep red fur around the collar, the lining was also an thick warm fur as the outside was pure black with an silver dragon holding an egg with its wings outward. The hat was an normal looking hat that was also black with an silver gold dragon design like on the coat.

Without an word or thought he handed them both to Laenche. "Here they will be a bit big well the coat but the weather is a bit cold right now, dont worry about getting it dirty. Lets go." He said as he walked out of the office waiting for him to follow.

Laenche was dumb founded. He was amazed the prefect was so willing to help him out. To add to his awe, Saka got up and handed him his coat. As Saka moved for the door, Laenche got up and put on the coat and hat. The coat was long, pretty much dragging on the ground, his heirloom anklet peaking out barely at the bottom, the mountains etched onto it almost a promise of lands yet to see. The hat barely sat on his head, his lack of big ears to hold it up and the like.

Though he was sure his fur would have been enough, having not even noticed that it was raining when he walked in, he still wore the coat, knowing it was a kind gesture. He was quite fond of the gold dragon insignias on the hat and coat, hoping that one day he had clothing with his own crest on them someday.

The mottera followed Saka out hastily, both eager to find out what he has in store for him, plus for fear of losing him since he doesn't know much of the city.

"Thank you for the coat, hat and the opportunity sir. Oi am at your service." At this they stepped into the cool, outside air.

-=| THE LEAP OF FAITH |=- "Welcome to the Leap of Faith! Try out Flame Tongue, it'll burn your throat, make your cheeks rouge and your belly burn till you cry for your mama!" The largest inn and tavern of Demios provided entertainment, drinks, merriment, and adequate lodgings for all its patrons. A raised stage stood in the back of the tavern area for entertainers: bards, jugglers, and poets. On occasion, bored patrons gave a shot at telling tales of their latest wench conquests and tales of dragons. Loud, raucous, and merry, the Leap of Faith's dining room is always crowded and full of noisy, happy customers. The second floor of the Leap of Faith consisted of twelve rooms, with one suite room for the occasional wealthy patron. The prices were fair, and despite the raucous environment downstairs, the rooms were clean and safe. For the hungry customer, there was a stack of oily, dog-eared menus on a teeny tiny pedestal near the entrance. A friendly sign next to them read: SEAT YOURSELF! Once this was done, waitresses in matching white and blue uniforms tended to every patron's needs. Bluloo, a Lutran with flaming red britches served drinks at the bar. "Care for a Fire Tongue? Or need a room? Ask Helgga over there," said Bluloo before he pointed to a large blond lady with bloodshot eyes and more muscles than a mare.

After an quick walk though town they came upon one of the best inns on the island, thankful they did not get to wet as they seated themselves looking over the menu.

"I would like to start with Seafood Medley and some hot red tea." He said as an young person took there order.

"So you would like an job, lets see I could use some help around the office and around the island. How is 20 crowns an cycle until you learn some about the law and maybe an weapon skill. Guessing you will need an place to stay so I can pay so you can stay here until you can get on your feet. Thankful Demios offers some of the best schools both arcane and not so arcane many people from all over travel here just for the schools."

They strolled through the town for a short time when they came upon a nice looking in and tavern. A sign labeled it the Leap of Faith, and Laenche followed the prefect it. The young person took the officer's order and then turned to Laenche for his order, in which he just asked for a glass of water with a lemon.

He listened to the man's proposal, definitely satisfied with the conditions of it. Not only was he getting paid, he was being offered a job and a free place to be lodged in. He was ecstatic and the big grin on his face proved it.

"Thank you very much sir. Oi would very much loike that. Any job will do moi noicely. Once Oi get comfortable, I guarantee you that Oi will be about for training. Oi will definitely work to the best of moi ability."

As they got their orders, he took a small sip of his water, content with how everything was going along.

Saka just pushed his seafood plate towards Laenche as he drink-ed his tea. "You need to eat now. Won't do you any good if you are in need of food. I say you first learn an weapon skill if you go with the school and maybe even an arcane later on due to the first few stages of arcane are pointless other then an classroom. Maybe take a few things, one in a dagger or sword then bow and arrow or such for longer range. Once you are done with that then maybe learn some law so you can deal with more office work and field work." He said even if he failed his law class rather badly.

As he would finish eating the meal Saka then would order pie or such then talk to the owner dealing with an place to stay for awhile.

Once again, the prefect astounded Laenche with his generosity. He took the seafood plate and ate it heartily. He very much would like to handle himself better in a fight, especially with the constant turmoil going on in Aelyria. He was glad that he had gone out of his way to meet this gentleman, for he knew now that he knew his town inside and out.

"Oi like everything you are doin for me sir, it's definitely helping ote. If there is ever anything you would need sir, Oi am your man...er, mole. You know."

Chuckling softly, he took another gobble of his food.
Saka soon got his pie, and then he spectated quietly on Saka's dealings.

"Well stay here for now, you can mix around the towns people if you want more food or drinks then just ask I will be back shorty." He said as he stood bowing his head leaving to take care of something only he knew at this time.

Laenche immediately felt a sense of panic as he watched the prefect leave their table. He kept enjoying his seafood plate and tried not to think of the trials at hand. He finished his plate and as the server came back, to grab it he realized the food was still on the officer's tab, so he took the liberty of ordering a dessert. After dissecting the menu for foods he enjoyed, he landed on the Fairy Bananas.

After he recieved his dessert, he started to eat it heartily and started thinking of the current events. He was amazed at this island's generosity, and their willingness to help out strangers. Him being alone and lost quickly escalated to a state of well being and him meeting new friends all around him. It was too good to be true, almost to the fact that he wanted to literally pinch himself. He was just excited for once to get what he wanted- a life to start anew and actually remember, plus making a name for himself as well.

The thing that kept him curious though, was as the whereabouts of the prefect and why he had to leave mid-lunch...

About half a candle mark latter Saka return back to the inn looking rather happy as he smiled waving down Laenche. "Well after some work on my end I have an place for you to stay due to the rates around the island it will be cheaper if I just got a small hovel for you." He said as he got out the new deed that was in his name to Laenche.

"It is an two bedroom, some living space, bath, kitchen some garden in the front and back. Once I am not your boss for any reason we can work out a rent to buy system if you still want it." He said as he wrote down on another bank note the sum of 300 crowns.

"This here can pay off any food but I would learn to cook as it can save some crowns per month. You should come by the office next Brightening as the rest I will let you go see your new home and buy what you need to buy. Any questions?"

Laenche beamed at the sight of Saka again. He listened to his news and this furthered delighted him.

"Wow sir, Oi appreciate everything you've done for me. Oi think that sounds like a good idea, Oi'm not not picky. Oi don't suppose you'd take me to the hovel for a mini tour? It would be hard to foind if Oi don't know where it's at."

With a little chuckle he mused at how easy it was to get comfortable on this island, where all he had to do was meet this gentleman. All he knew was no matter what he'd look after this man, making sure to look out for those who did him such a service.
