"The Isle is Full of Noises, Sounds and Sweet Airs" (Adelyn)
As the worried waiter inclined his ear to hear Adelyn's order, he emitted a sigh thinking of his missing server. And that sigh was followed by the silver clatter of breaking glass. Ladies shrieked and men spat their tea as a hunk of volcanic rock splintered the window and landed rather conveniently on Adelyn's table. What strange teal colored forces seemed to gear the world in Adelyn's favor…
The server paled at the rock like it was oily vermin and even made shooing motions with his hand before he recovered from initial shock.
"Blasted hooligans!" the waiter covered his mouth as if he had uttered a noxious swear.
"I'm sorry, Miss. But children these days… so destructive!"
Adelyn's order had been forgotten as her waiter scuttled about with other busy little bodies, trying to sweep and gingerly pick up shards of glass.
At second glance, gray twine wine was laced around the rock. Turning the rock over, Adelyn could see a scrap of sooty parchment held in place.
An eloquent and ever-so logical phrase was scrawled in charcoal on the piece of paper.
"Pursue us and the boy and we will break more than glass."
As Adelyn handled the rock, black grains of irritating sand fell into the crevices between her fingers and made a morose confetti on the table.
