Rose Tel' Fenda. (Aedile's Office)

Situated to the North of Ethgan'tor, the Aedile's Office was one of the more rarely used buildings within the Moriquendi City simply because it's only real purpose to date was to oversee that any damaged property within Ethgan'tor was restored to it's former glory. Naturally the place had other purposes, but they were rarely utilised on a brightening to brightening basis - for when Moriquendi saught to leave Ethgan'tor on a more permanent basis to the puritanical Moriquendi city of Joi'qui or one of the more mundane cities within the Allerian Empire. The final reason usually being when a Moriquendi House desired a change of location if their social status changed as a mark of prosperity or declination in their House's fortune.

The building, as all of Ethgan'tor was build from massive blocks of marble that was shot with faint pink veins that ran along it's surface to give the stone a more likely, glowing appearance during the brightening when light hit it's polished surface. Two stories high, the building seemed to have a condensed feel about it as if the Aedile's Office had been created only as an afterthought that such an establishment might be needed in the future. Large stained glass windows stared out towards the quiet paved streets, sapphire, emerald and ruby coloured planes contrasting with each other in tiny precise patterns that depicted a sea of red roses in lucious green fields on a background of sky. The top story was spartan in design, no windows shed natural light there thoughif one looked at it carefully - small cracks seemed to run along the marble block on the upper left hand corner that showed signs of needing to be replaced in an Era or two. There wasn't any sign however of the buildings purpose, just a intrinsically carved doorway made from polished maple in the shape of ivy covered columns that was slightly ajar to reveal a golden flickering light from within.

Inside, the place was disturbing to the eye as the signs of a complusive obsessive cleaner was releaved. Not a single spec of dust lay anywhere within the room, no spiderwebs nestled within the corners of the roof. Along the side walls, bookshelves of polished maple ran from the ground to the roof and from wall to wall, thick leather bound tomes filling every space perfectly so there wasn't a single gap - each one had Elvish script of golden colouring embossed along the edge stating Kard en', and then various Moriquendi' Houses's name. Each tome was reserved for an individual House, keeping track of every time an Aedile's assisstance was required and the precise reasoning behind why it was necessary. Unlike an Aedile's Office however found within the Empire, there wasn't any desk filled with piles of paper, bottles of ink and hastily cast aside quills - there was simply nothing else within the room except another carved door identical to that outside in the far wall. Built into the roof, illuminating the entire room was a bronze basin hanging from fine steel chains - a fire burning there continually though it gave off no heat or smoke, a small Enchantment to prevent the flames from possibility damaging thousands of Patterns worth of accumulated work.

As one entered, a soft chime rang through the room, echoing for a moment before fading away as a silver bell just above the doorway as shifted as the doorway opened. Within mere moments, a middleaged Moriquendi man strode forth from the back room quickly, his sculpted features cast with worry as he shot the intruder a worried glance. His clothing was loose, a grey soft robe that was clitched at the waist with a tan leather belt with a silver buckle shaped in a leaf. Underneath the robe and plainly visible where it slit along either thigh was pure white brigga that ended in knee high grey leather boots that slid along his calves perfectly. "Please, take your shoes off!" he exclaimed, raising a feather duster like a rapier before suddenly catching himself in the moment and lowering the potential weapon.

"Umm...apologies, Vedui', is there anything that I can help you with...when you remove your shoes of course." he said, his gaze never leaving the ground as he waited for compliance lest dirt be walked into his clean Office.

Delyen Ilran is an upstanding Citizen
Delyen knew where the Aedile's Office was, of course. He grew up in Ethgan'tor, he knew where nearly everywhere was, but he had always wanted to go in the Aedile's office, for a hundred era's... and maybe even a hundred patterns... he had wanted to enter promptly, with a business like attitude, and do business with such an attitude in mind, being prompt and quickly assisted by the Aedile. Now he had the chance to do just that.

He wandered through the streets of Ethgan'tor nearly randomly on his way, only slowly going towards his eventually location as he walked the streets. When he did eventually come to the location he wished to enter, he stood a moment, in thought, decided if what he was about to do was worth it, worth what it might do to people, worth what it might do to him.

It was, he decided, and entered. "Oh, sorry sir." He said after being so addressed by the paranoid elf. In order to comply with his wishes he did, indeed, remove the possibly dirty articles and place them on whatever welcome mat might be availible. "Ah vedui good sir, I have come to inquire on if it might be possible to convert my residential area into a place of business? Or would this require a seperate building?"

He waited, he was patient, and this was no regular business he intended to create, soon he would be rich, richer then he had ever been before, and all Telath would know him.

Walking over to beside the mat, his warm brown; almost doe-like eyes staring at the few paces Delyen was walked into his office before releasing a discontented sigh. Almost invisble to the eye, it was the kind of dust that only the most pedantic of Mother-in-Laws can find upon their Daughter-in-Laws housekeeping that evades otherwise detection. "It's fine child...next time however please be more thoughtful..." the middaged Moriquendi said, still looking at the ground rather than Delyen for a few more moments before shifting his gaze ever upwards and lowering the duster from it's most threatening of positions.

Giving his words appropriate consideration, he wore a somewhat bemused look at the odd request as he ran the fingers of his left hand absently through the fine alabaster locks of his hair. "That's a most unusal of requests...though I don't see why you couldn't utlise the ground level as a shop...most, well Human however to live like that." the Aedile stated in a somewhat suspicious tone of voice, uncaring about any insult that was implied. "What kind of shop were you considering anyway?"

Turning about, the Moriquendi Elf gast one most regretful of looks as he pondered placing a sign upon the doorway before quickly discarding the concept. Even in Ethgan'tor there was likely to be some vandilicous youth who considered it ammusing to give the Aedile undue hardship and worries. Striding towards the rows of bookshelves, he traced his fingertips of his right hand arcoss the worn surface before glancing once his shoulder once again. "What is your House name, might help determine the situation a little bit better Child."

Delyen Ilran is an upstanding Citizen
Delyen Ilran hardly heard the old Moriquendi, so spellbound he was by the knowledge stored here. Old tomes and books, a tear nearly sprang from his eyes as he thought of endless hours in a back office, pouring over these books, writing down all infomation and increasing his wisdom beyond recognition. It was so, with his eyes half closed, just taking in the wonder of this book filled room, that he was started from a kind of sleep when the Moriquendi finished he had barely heard the words, so his answer was vague and odd.

"I am Delyen Ilran, and I was thinking of a musical store, that I think would be the best but..." He paused and his brow furrowed in a sudden thought. "Perhaps if there is a position here at the Aedile's office I could work here. It seems like a wonderful place to have a vocation." He smiled, hoping for an answer in the positive, he had fallen in love with these old books and dusty volumes, it looked like it might be a wonderful place to work.

Of course, he thought grimly, there was the chance at fortune that had slipped through his fingers, but why yield money when you could just do something you love to do? And, as a member of the goverment of Ethgan'tor, he still had a hope for a good future. Perhaps one filled with great wealth or extreme power, only time would tell...

Hmming under his breath as he trailed his lithe fingers across the shelves, after a while when he got to the third row he knelt downwards and selected an aged tome marked with 'House Ilran' upon it's leather cover in gold lettering. Naturally the writing was Elvish considering how little Charismean was used within Ethgan'tor. Afterall, why degenerate to 'Allerian' standards except for use in translating texts and diplomacy? "A!, here we are...Ilran....Ilran, you'd a Minor House yes? No need to answer that, of course you are..nearly everyone is." he mused, thumbing through the text before finally coming to a blank page and then finally looking at Delyen properly as if for the first time. Again.

"Music...well, you'd be in competition with other business's of course - I think there's two places within the city who make use of music either in the creation and maintainence of musical intruments or teaching in their useage. Can't for the life of me remember which House runs them of course so you could always buy in or apply for a partnership...as for being an Assisstant Aedile, well..." he mused, looking at Delyen and remembering all too keenly his state of cleanliness - or rather his lack.

"Well, I have the time finally to train up a new Assisstant, but why should I hire you?"

Delyen brightened, slightly, as the Aedile said that he might be able to train up a new assistant, however, it was short lived as he finished his sentence, and in question form too. First Delyen frowned, as he tried to think up some lie that would convince the Aedile that he was truly the best choice. Then he realized how pointless that would be and spread his hands wild in a sign of ignorance. "Nothing I suppose. No previous experience... in anything... it's just something that looks like it would be a great deal of fun to do honestly." He shrugged, that was the truth of it, in the entirety, better then any lie, although Delyen now seriously doubted he would get the postition.

For some reason it didn't seem to worry him as much as it would have several moments ago, like it or not, Delyen was greedy, the natural obbession over coin more often seen in Gnomes, Dwarves, and... he shuddered to think... humans. He didn't doubt it anymore though, a wish for nothing but riches beyond his wildest dreams and the pleasure brought from vast treasure halls and grand palaces which he had envisioned so many times in his dreams was his only one real wish.

'Hmming' softly under his breath as he continued to flick slowly backwards through the pages as if searching for some new sheet of information, the Moriquendi glanced up with wide eyes as if studying Delyen with an intensity that could have melted steel in seconds before averting his gaze to replace the book upon it's shelf. "Hmm, so what you're saying is that you're likely to be a liability to myself, unreliable and unknowledgeable...lovely." he said with a touch of humour before flashing Delyen a rare smile that showed far too many teeth at once. "I'll hire you, the pay of an Assisstant is 50 gold crowns Imperial standard per cycle, plus a Era bonus of 250 gold crowns. Promotion to full Aedile will be done when you're knowledgable enough...pay increases, as does the responsibility. You'll work six brightenings a cycle, usual hours of working...is there anything you'd like to know Delyen?"

Delyen flashed a grin as he heard the Aedile's words, good pay, bonus every so often, and a chance at greater fame and glory, things were looking good, he might be able to make something of the currently pathetic house that was Ilran, like one of the great houses, or even the greatest house! Shaking himself from the daydream he shook his head. "Nothing I wish to know sir, except... what is my first task." His grin had faded, now just leaving a calm and serene happiness, after all, he tried to reason with himself, the pay was still good.

The chance of a real goverment position is also tempting... The Aedile of Ethgan'tor a member of the Ilran house? Quite a position of power. Power was good, nearly as potent as wealth and just as lusted after, power that the position might eventually give him. Power enough to do something. And of course, wealth.

Nodding his head adamantly, there was something that Delyen could do for him quite easily he realised. Something that would probably make him a very happy Elf indeed as he rummaged in his tunic's pocket to withdraw two hundred crowns worth and offer it to Delyen without a word. Instead, he strode towards the doorway, kneeled down and cast a closer, more critical gaze at his shoes before hastily withdrawing another fifty crowns for him.

"Aye, have a nice long bath Heru Ilran and then go buy yourself some new clothing and boots for work; I shan't have you messying the place up with such an atrocious display of hygiene or scaring away other people." he said in a most serious tone of voice. "You work the first four brightenings of the cycle, and the last two - a four brightening holiday in the middle for your own purposes though you can work extra perhaps up in the attic if you notify me beforehand - this wouldn't be full time however but perhaps once a month. Now then, unless you have something else to do Delyen I expect you to hurry off now to the Tailor's...and arrive promtly at first light tomorrow - I shan't have you being tardy unless you want to lose part of your pay in recompense..."

The dark elf grinned as the Aedile spoke, yes, two hundred crowns starting bonus, and fifty crowns for new clothing and boots? He could get used to this kind of lifestyle, he greatly desired new clothes, and this could be an excuse to visit the many shops around Ethgan'tor and purchase whatever he had wished. So he bowed his head and spoke. "Thank you Aedile, you can rest assured that I shall not be late."

With those words he put his boots back on, and, taking as much care as possible not to dirty up the Aedile's office, he stepped outside, two hundred and fifty coins in hand, ready to make some purchases.

When Delyan didn't return however, the senior Aedile was merely amused by such happenings. It wasn't really that suprising that he hadn't bothered returning, bookkeeping here wasn't exactly the most taxing of professions and one better suited towards the elderly rather than being wasted upon the youth. Plus there was something that was much more important to the Esh'lahier Elf than the taking up of a new apparentice to pick up Sarathai's workload when his task had been completed and he was able to be judged before Ioannes Himself.

And that of course had been Delyan's rather annoying ability towards messing up his nice clean floor. And with that knowledge spent the brightening with a contented look as he hummed underneath his breath with only the sound of a page being turned periodically as he waited the next person to walk within his office.
