Orb Kai'nuar's Pets

Written by GD Kalinda

The pet shop was situated in one of the less populated parts of Ethgan’tor in a rather quaint one story building. Its walls were made of smooth pale white marble that was laced with veins upon veins in pink that glowed faintly and cast a pleasant, warm, friendly atmosphere on their surroundings. There were only two windows on the front of the buildings, clean windows that allowed the occasional passerby to take a look at its interior. Vine crept up the wall near the door, forming an arc of sorts. The house did not possess any real garden, there was only a narrow row of flowerbeds directly in front of the wall. The flowers were small and delicate, star shaped flowers in pink and white that exuded a sweet smell and complimented the marble walls perfectly. All in all the house looked like something an old lady that had a friendly word and a piece of good advice for everybody or a lovely young maiden would live in. The only thing that gave people a clue that the building was more than just a simple house was a small white sign over the door that showed the picture of a squirrel holding a nut in its hands.

The wooden door was closed but not locked so that whoever was curious about the building could take a look inside. A bell chimed softly whenever somebody stepped over the treshhold that seemed to be the gate into another world. Sounds filled the house, a multitude of sounds, some soft and melodical, others loud and rather unpleasant. The front room was filled with cages of all sizes and forms. Some of them contained colourful, exotic birds, others contained ferrets and squirrels and yet others contained rats and mice. A series of rather big cages lined the walls. They housed dogs of different breeds as well as cats. Another section at the back of the room was dedicated to fish. Three medium sized fishtanks stood there, containing red, orange and blue fish as well as turtles.

The counter was made of light brown wood that had been decorated with carvings of trees and flowers and animals playing together peacefully. An alicat was lying on top of it motionlessly. Only the occasional twitching of its wings told that it was still alive. A young esh'lahier woman that could not have been much older than eighty or ninety patterns stood behind the counter stroking the head of the sleeping alicat absentmindedly with a slender long fingered hand and looked ahead. Soft strands of wispy snow white hair fell into her pale face, half covering her delicately pointed ears, almost obscuring dark eyes that almost seemed to be too big for her. While she was not stunningly beautiful by any means of the word there was something intriguing about her. The girl was the kind of person that immediately made somebody smile, open up and tell her things that were usually kept secret. She wore naught but a sky blue tunic made of silk, pants made of the same material and soft brown leather boots. “Vedui ...” she spoke. Her voice was soft and melodical, every word that she uttered radiated warmth. “What can I do for you?” Her pale lips curved into an infectuous smile.

“Vedui, vedui!” another, high pitched voice could be heard from somewhere near the ceiling. A small faerie girl with azure hair and bright blue eyes was sitting on a wooden board that had been attached to the ceiling with two strings and grinned happily. “How about a bird or a nice cat? We have got cats that can fly! And they are cheap!” She made a soft sound at which the alicat that previously been lying on the counter motionlessly lifted its head and looked at the young faerie for a moment before it let its head sink down again, sleeping once more, unaware of the fact that its two young owners were trying to do business, that the animals all around the shop were constantly chirping, barking and meowing, that customers were coming and going all the time.

Once more the young Elf, Delyen Ilran, had let his feet do the walking, while his mind wandered over many things. His life, his hopes, and his thoughts. As he wandered his eye spied a sign, a squirrel feeding house? This attracted the attention of the young elf who entered, and didn't regret it.

The sounds and smells were amazing and varied, but they didn't compare to the sights. And Delyen wasn't looking at the animals to much, but instead the girl on the counter, what pleasent beauty! Delyen was taken aback by all the positive feedback, so paused a moment, before walking up to her. As she spoke, Delyen couldn't help but also smile as he started speaking. "Ved..." However, a fae soon cut him off, sqeaking in and talking about alicats.

There goes a chance to talk with this woman alone. Delyen thought with regret, but a pet shop? How interesting.

"I've always wanted a pet." Delyen said, still smiling. "But what to get? Those flying cats look clever. But I also like rodents and fish. I can't have all three though, for fear of losing the rodents and fish." He chuckled softly as he said this. He was joking of course, but it was a very real problem.

"You two are the experts of course, what suggest you?" Perhaps they would just select the most expensive animal from there stock, but something told this Moriquendi that they weren't the type to do that.

The girl blinked her large, alluring eyes, brushing a wayward hair away to show that the new customer had gotten her attention. She nodded, leaning her pointed chin into slender hands, listening to the requirements that the dark elf had. It was, indeed, a broad spectrum. Kai'nuar's had a variety of all the before mentioned types of pets. The young Moriquendi sighed, looking up at the Fae with a mild hint of annoyance. She always seemed to interject when the more promising customers entered the store. A sweet smile spread across her features as the pale elf picked up a pen from the desk, tapping thoughtfully at her lips.

"Honestly, I wouldn't pick any of them." The azure-haired fae whimpered at the thought of losing yet another sale to the brutal honesty of the elf. Ignoring the obvious sign of distress, the girl continued. "Although the feline race appears to be clever, sometimes it seems to be just a ploy." In a way almost asking for forgiveness, the clerk stood and patted the winged cat lovingly. "They really are beautiful creatures, but not in the ways of devotion, and although fish can decorate a pond, that is about all that they can do. Not a pet, persay, but more of a living art form." The girl turned away from the cat to wink one large dark eye at Delyen. "Rodents can start to smell foul after a while."

beckoning to the new arrival with a single thin finger, she led the way towards the cages closer to the back. Those that housed the less popular animals in the store. "Reptiles have always been a favorite of mine." Reaching into a cage, she caressed a green and yellow-dappled snake's smooth scales. The animal provided almost no response, but looked up with it's glistening black eyes in a way that conveyed understanding. "They're magnificent listeners for one of the animal kingdom." She sighed wistfully, turning towards a chameleon that had curled itself around a thick wooden stick. "It's too bad that so many people are afraid of them... I don't want to pressure you into a decision, though. Pick whatever animal feels right, whichever one calls to your soul."

Delyen's eyes half closed in pleasure at the sounds about him, especially that of the female elf who now spoke, he knew if he but blinked he could return to his normal, more business like, form, but why? He followed the girl to the back of the room where she showed him the reptiles, and nodded, slowly. "I see, they look simply perfect. Reptiles, yes. Wonderful. Better then cats or fish or rodents I see now. How much for one of those snakes? They look like the best choice available." His voice had no enthusiasm, no trace of excitment, simply a calm feeling that had come over him, no doubt because girl, who's attitude seemed to spread from her, and calm him down.

His voices piped up before she could respond, soft and content. "I think I should like a female more. Have you one of those? A female snake?" He turned his head to look at the girl, awaiting her answer.

"The snakes cost thirty crowns a piece" The girl smiled again at his comments, carefully straightening out her blue silken shirt that had been disturbed with movement. This one did catch on rather easily to which animals were superior to others. The beauty of a snake was unrivaled by any living creature that she had ever seen before. Their scales were smooth and colorful, more so than any fur could ever be. Free of dander and other such mammal tendencies, they were also one of the more conventional animals to keep in one's house. "The food for the snake, which consists of mice kept frozen by an elementalist spell, costs two crowns for a cycle's supply. Some of the snakes prefer fish, however, and those can be kept in a bowl and fed with some simple plants." Their feeding habits were the only thing that seemed to bother people. Something about feeding one creature another seemed to cause some people a twinge in conscience. But wasn't this just how the world worked?

The girl nodded, slightly perplexed about the nature of his request. One could almost never tell the gender of a reptile aside from their coloring patterns. A motion of her hand indicated the left side of the small isle that housed the snakes. "Are you looking for any certain color combinations and size?" There were many to choose from, ranging from a length much longer than the girl herself to the smallest of garden snakes. Reaching up to a free-hanging branch, the clerk let a rosy-colored boa with large reddish spots slither about a pale forearm. "Would you like to try holding one?" The girl offered the boa, delicately stroking the scales. "She's quite friendly, as long as you don't push her scales in the wrong direction." Standing back, the shopkeeper allowed Delyen space to make his decision.

Delyen glanced about the snakes, paying little attention to the girl after she finished talking about costs, he waved away the boa she offered and leaned forward, he scanned the snakes carefully until he saw a long thick snake, as long as his arm, slithering around. It had dull green scales, he liked it. "I'll take that one," he said, gesturing to the snake, "And... I think five cycles worth of frozen mice." He grinned slightly before digging into his pouch for fourty crowns, no use haggling on this purchase, it wouldn't do any good.

As he did this he looked at the snake, it was probably not poisonous, but had another way to kill its prey, as he finally found the coins and offered them to the elven girl, he wondered further. If it didn't poison them, how did it kill them? He question brought a mental shudder to him, so he ceased to think about it. A snake would be a nice companion anyway.

Bink Rosethorn is an upstanding Citizen
The recent events in Bink’s life had brought to his attention something that had remained hidden, lurking in the dark recesses of his mind, loneliness. While the bachelor life had many advantages, it did have one major disadvantage, and this was it. In truth it extended even beyond his bachelor’s lifestyle, for he had no friends or for that matter, family to speak of, until recent, and that was what brought him to this decision. Before he left his little tree home he had counted his coins that he had squirreled away over the years, and set out to see about buying himself a little companionship.

Following the flow of the winds, he weaved a not very strait line through the forest and eventually ended up at the door step of Kai'nuar's Pets.

While the door was not locked, it was almost more then he could handle.

“Mmmpf! Rummmph!” he groaned as he struggled with the door, “You would think they would leave a window open!” finally the door gave way enough that he could slip inside.

Bink’s eyes widened with glee, zipping this way and that, he flew from one creature to the next studying each of them in turn. “They suuuuure have a lot of animals in here! I bet they have Cabbits too!” he squeaked joyfully. He flew over to the counter and hovered, trying very hard to quietly wait for the young moriquendi woman to take his order, a thing that he was almost never successful at.

ooc: You guys, I am sooo incredibly sorry for the wait It won't happen again, I promise

Bink:

The Moriquendi sitting behind the desk jumped up to help the new arrival with the door slightly too late, succeeding only in tipping over a jar of bird seed that had formerly been sitting undisturbed on the counter. Blinking her large eyes and sighing with annoyance, the dark elf began to brush the seeds into a large pile. The faerie sitting in the rafters laughed with merriment at the spectacle that the big person had caused, grinning in a friendly manner towards Bink. "Sera' there!" Fluttering her wings to become airborne, the girl spiraled downwards, landing on the desk in front of her elven friend. Tilting her head to the side in a quizzical manner, the azure-haired faerie studied the new arrival. It wasn't often that one of the wee folk showed up in Ethgan'tor. And here she was thinking that there was only herself!

"Yep, we have cabbits! Kai'nuar's has all the animals that you can think of, and then some. Got anything in mind?" It would have to be small, or at least tame enough to not be a threat to a faerie. No matter how much the dark elven clerk liked the creatures, Liza wouldn't go near the aisle. Just thinking of what they could do to somebody her size gave her the chills. Folding her arms in front of her petite chest, the Fae waited for a response.

Delyen:

Nodding with approval, the clerk reached carefully into the cage and let the snake wrap around her slender forearm. It wasn't the most lavish of choices that he could have made, but this particular breed did make for a fine pet. Another customer satisfactorily served by Kai'nuar's. After Delyen retrieved his pet, the Moriquendi retreated to the back room for a few moments to retrieve the frozen mice, all of them packaged neatly in a thin wooden box.

The spell that emitted cold was branded onto the top of the box, a thing layer of ice forming over the snowflake-like symbol. "Just remember to let her come out of the cage every day. They need to be able to stretch and the like." Carefully, she took a large cage down from the shelf along with some plant-life that could liven up the creature's living quarters. "There you are. Have a good brightening."

OOC: No worries.

IC:

Bink's eyebrows shot up in surprise, “A Faery!” Bink could barely suppress his excitement, he hadn’t seen another Faery in Ethgan'tor in countless years, and then to see the Fae Queen, the really tall Brianna, Pah (whom had some difficulties with his clothing), and who could ever forget the ever exciting Willow, all in one day! And now it seemed more Faeries were appearing out of no where like magic.

Maybe I don’t need a Cabbit? Maybe we need a party so that all the Faeries get to know each other? he wondered to himself. I always wanted to play cabbit tag, and you need a cabbit to play cabbit tag, and cabbits can be lots of fun at parties, I should think… Well that’s decided it! Cabbit it is!

Puffing his chest out, and standing as tall as he could, which wasn’t much as he was the shortest Faery he knew. “Serale and good tidings, I’m Bink! That’s B-I-N-K! BINK! that’s me!” He proudly told them his name as loudly as he could, for big people always seemed a little deaf.

With the introductions being done with, at least his, it seemed like a good time to get down to the important things, such as cabbits. He thought for several moments as to what kind of cabbit he wanted, long eared or short, cotton tail or cat tail, fur color… “I want a cabbit with long ears…” he stuck his hands on top of his head and waggled them about, “Long whiskers…” he continued, putting his hands to either side of his face, splaying his fingers and wriggling them about “A little nose…” he said twitching his nose the best he could.

Suddenly he paused without warning. He held this position for several seconds, gently biting his lower lip, trying to think of what else he wanted in a before he gave up. “Do you have anything like that?” he asked, while putting his hands behind his back.

The young faerie girl rolled her eyes dramatically as Bink spelled out his name, resting her small hands on petite hips. She wasn't stupid like many of the big people were and wasn't a pixie, as many seemed to think because of her size. At only barely six inches, Liza was short even for a Fae, her diminutive size even more miniscule than the new customer's. The elf behind the counter winced as the little man yelled, promptly dropping a handful of seeds to clutch at her sensitive elven ears. How could something that size be so loud? Shrugging, the elf scooped up the rest of the elusive seeds and dropped them in the jar, brushing off her long-fingered hands on her tunic. "My name is Ee'rie and this is Liza." The Moriquendi motioned to the girl on the table who quickly bowed her head, sky-blue locks bouncing.

The faerie listened intently to what the boy had to say, making special note of the types of features that he wanted. Sounded like almost every cabbit to her, but they did all kind of look the same. Thankfully, they had quite a large selection that Bink could eventually choose from. "Here! We'll show them to you." Smiling and giggling with glee, Liza alighted upon the shoulder of her dark elven friend, lightly pulling a lock of her hair in a playful fashion. Ee'rie shook her head to loosen the grip, leading the way out the side door of the store. A small paddock full of alfalfa and grasses housed the cabbits, who were all busily going about nibbling or frolicking in the greens.

The sun shone down heavily, telling of the spring soon to come and better weather on the horizons. Liza hopped off of the Moriquendi's shoulder, her pure red wings fluttering in the gentle breezes. "Lots'n lots of cabbits! Druid blessed, too. Any natural color that you want, we've got!" Happily, the faerie flew from animal to animal, showing off a black, brown, white, mottled and slightly pink-colored cabbits with an unbound rapidity. It wasn't often that someone looked for such a simple animal. They always wanted the fancier ones, or at least a dog or a cat. It would be nice for a cabbit to finally find a home.

Delyn nodded as he took the supplies offered by the female elf and spoke his thanks. "Good brightening, and many thanks. I shall be sure to come back later, when I need more food for my snake." He nodded deeply in an almost bow. Then turned and began to walk slowly out of the shop, new companion in hand. A snake. This could prove interesting, life with a snake could always have a certain... entertainment value. One could easily see the fear on many when they beheld such a creature, but Delyen already liked it.

He wondered why he had purchased the snake for a bit. He certainly had no intention of having a pet when he had woken up that morning. But as he opened the door to the fresh outdoor's of Ethgan'tor, he felt certain that he had made no foolish choice. He had gotten tired of not talking most of the brightening, but now he would have a creature to talk to. A creature that stared at him with cold, intellegent eyes. "Moonsky. That is the name I choose for you, I hope you like it."

As Domeneque walked in with her usual shadow cape she wandered if she would even be noticed. She silently laughed of course she would her glowing ice-blue eyes were probably so bright with her glee that you would be near blinded if you looked strait into them.

Hoping there is another dark elf in the pet store she timidly looks around . She is all ways on the defensive or at least cautious with others except of her race and with good reason too. A light elf killed her mother, a human killed her father, and the only family left is her deathly sick brother that has disowned her. A sad fate for one so young.

Dogs, cats, fish, cabbits were to start looking? "Excuse me will you help me?" She asks the clerk. "I'm looking for a companion that will aid me on my travels. Sorry if I seem picky." she adds apoligiticly "But i was looking for an intelligent, strong, loyal animal." She silently adds to her self that it would be nice if it would gaurd her too.

OOC: Sorry for taking so long

IC:
The clerk who responded was a young man and quite in shape, as if he had just finished his service at the citizen levy. He seemed like he had been part of an accident of some sort, as he did possess a scar on his face, the only thing that took away from typical elven archetypal perfection, but as far as his other features were concerned, eyes, cheeks, ears, hair health, he was definitely of elven lineage, as were all people who resided in the city, except of course the few fae.

The man responded with a sort of amiable tone, inciting a sort of jolly voice. “Serale, welcome, if it’s a loyal and gentle but very strong companion you’re after, then you most certainly can’t go past one of these Hoondvarg’s, it’s got a fierce look to them, but they’re mostly harmless, but you don’t want to get one angry, they are quite strong. We’ve just some that have arrived quite newly, they’re still young, so will make an excellent companion, would you like to see one?”

The elf had an inviting tone, his arms leaning towards another room, where Domeneque could hear all sorts of barks, bird chirps and other animal grunts and purrs, the smell was quite curious as well, consisting a mix between food, droppings, plants and other such smells that citizens usually associate with pet stores, well, in this particular city, the smell they’ve associated with this store, the only true pet shop in town.

OOC: No problem

Averting her face and eyes away she smiles happily that he didn't call her out about the cat eyes she was cursed with. She looks back eyes glowing a brilliant blue white. As she shrugs off her cape she receives odd glances that think they were unseen. After the rock golems attack she was left with a blood splattered red blouse that was ripped to pieces. It would take weeks for her to heal and show no scars but untill then she'll be content with her shadow cape.

She looks at him in wonderment "Where did you get that scar if you don't mind my asking?"

Arwenna pushed the door open gently and peared inside. As her sparkling, deep emerald eyes roamed the shop, she gasped. Animals of all sorts were everywhere. In cages, in boxes, perched on stands and even roaming the shop lazily.

Arwenna had always loved animals. She had spent most of her childhood playing with the ones who were tame, and studying those who kept their distance. Arwenna brushes her long silvery blonde hair behind her ear. Such fond memories they were.

Finally she stepped inside the shop. She walked over the clerk behind the desk.

"Goodday. I was just wondering what kind of animals you are selling," she wondered if this was a stupid question, seeing as her eyes had already studied most of the animals in the room, but she continued boldy. "I am particularly interested in a dog. Brown, preferably. And I would enjoy a smaller dog then a larger one. Could you perhaps show me your dogs?" She looked at the clerk hopefully. "I hope I don't seem to fussy," she added.
