Lysandria is an orchard village in the province of
Prime, built around Chateau Lysandria, residence of the Eastern branch of the
Lylles family.
History
Lysandria was built by the two adoptive daughters of Emperor
Constantine, Princess
Lysa and Princess
Andria. The Princesses worked tiredlessly to create a residence that was considerably different from the majestic, maze-like grandeur of the
Palace of the Crown on
Insula Coronae. Designed to be a country retreat for the royal family, Lysandria was not meant to be a testament to the power of the Kings and Emperor, but a more intriguing, familiar experience for its residents. In fact, Lysandria is less than a tenth the total size of the Palace of the Crown.
When
Aubi became High Queen
Melody de Lylles and brought the Lylles into Aelyrian dominion, she began to work ceaselessly at Lysandria, specifically on its museum collections and libraries. However, she never resided there, preferring to reside on Insula Coronae instead. From that moment on, Lysandria became synonymous with Lylles.
Lysandria was damaged by a large fire in 9912 that affected the Northwest section of the palace, destroying the library and part of the museum. Famed historian Lord
Odin Khrias, author of the
Historia, lost his life in the fire as he tried to save precious books from the flames. Books IX and X of Historia were later recovered by
Elanara Al'lende, but Khrias' later tomes were forever lost.
Architecture
Chateau Lysandria is a rich palace, though not excessively imposing. It is famous for its gardens, originally designed to be a series of secluded glades. The palace has 80 suites and at its height it could hold 400 nobles, though it is rarely fully populated nowadays.
The village surrounding the palace has a population of about 4,000. The personal retinue of the Eastern Lylles (about 5,000 elite soldiers nowadays, compared to the 15,000 infantrymen and 7,000 knights of the past) is stationed in barracks rather unintrusively outside of the village. The landscape is filled with beautiful orchards, though no wine is produced.
Inhabitants
Archduke
Antonius de Lylles is the undisputed head of the Eastern Lylles, using Lysandria as his headquarters. He regards Lysandria as his personal possession.
