Orcs and Magic The orc race has never been known for its ability to learn magic. Though there are some orcs that have become mages in the known sense of the word, most orcs understand magic to be something a little different than just being able to cast fireballs and strange soul sapping spells. Within Ire, there are only three mages highly skilled in the necromancy sphere of magic and they have taken up permanent residency within the three main spires of the city. Knowing how rare it is to see an orc mage, this has led many Ire citizens to believe that the three mages are not orcs at all. The orcs know these mages as the Shon Zi or "Black Marks". The form of magic that orcs have a much easier time learning than traditional spheres of magic is something of a cross between shamenism and iconomancy. This they call "orc shamenism" so that it sounds more like an orkish original magic (which it really isn't). This magic is mainly reserved for orc shamen to learn but the shamen have found ways to impart their magic upon regular orcs that normally would not be able to become unbound on their own. Orc Shamenism The specifics of the orkish form of shamenism can be learned by learning parts of shamenism and iconomancy and then add in a mix of orkish religious beliefs and legends. No real guideline exists that limits how much or what parts of each one can learn to be considered "skilled" in this type of magic. Until more orcs within Ire learn this type of magic that they refer to as the "Old Religion" and begin using it more frequently, many in the outside world will see this magic as a big mystery and potentially dangerous. Kaugzi Magic The non-orcs in the city stick to their normal spheres of magic though they keep to themselves their powers for fear of the Shon Zi. These mages are jealous and will not hesitate to squash any upstart mages that try to challenge their standing in the city as the only "real" magic users. The Shon Zi are already trying to exterminate the seven shamen of Orckon and finally kill off their brand of "Old Religion" magic. These shamen are very resourceful in protecting their identities and avoiding the Shon Zi but other magic users don't have a cave complex to hide in like the shamen do.
