The Aedile's Office
Near the governmental center of the village, along with the Prefect's and City Watch's office, sits that of the property and government works...better known as the Aedile's Office. Like most government buildings located anywhere but Prime, it isn't exactly a breathtaking sight to behold. A stern, gray stone building stands unadorned except for a very basic wooden sign denoting the place's function. It's sturdy, which might be surprising to some considering the government frequently contracts out to the lowest bidder, but otherwise thoroughly unimpressive.
A few windows line the street to give people something to look at while they wait in the roped-off line, and a few windows are set higher up into the dome-ceiling and high walls of the building to allow for more light. The heavy mahogany counter dominates at least half of the main room, and about two-thirds of what's left is roped off to allow people to line up in an orderly fashion. At the counter itself there are three stations, though usually only one was occupied.
The woman who occupies it, a mousy, brown-haired girl who couldn't have been of more then twenty ordinations currently held the spot. The small nameplate on the counter states her to be 'Deloris Lane'. Deloris, a very modest girl, wears long dresses with long sleeves throughout most of the seasons, except for when it gets overly warm, which is when she switches to short sleeves on her dresses. Her figure is trim but also relatively unshapely, and her eyes are a muted green color, as though the very color of her soul is as shy as she is. Deloris was not outstandingly pretty, but she was above the average one could find, though if she spent a bit of time focusing on her looks, she could probably look far more stunning then she currently does.
Behind Deloris are a few office cubicles for paperwork, and then the two main offices for the Aedile and the Assistant Aedile, and then the file room. While the nameplate on the Assistant Aedile's door is empty, the Aedile's is not, and it quite clearly announced the name of of the city's current public servant in charge of the building: Soran Locke.
All in all, an unimpressive but quite necessary office building.
"Serale," Deloris speaks up louder then usual--but still a moderately quiet squeak--when it is each person's turn in line, "Welcome to the Kriskinstat Aedile's Office. What can we do for you?" She seems honestly eager to help, but any overabundance of such is easily held in check by her more controlled nature as she waited earnestly for a reply.
