Tasad

The Cencoris looked up the man who had just entered his Office. A Lionoid by the looks of him, a rather unusual Lionoid indeed. With a black jest, unlike many others. The man was quick in his introduction and firm in his purpose what interested the Vagaran.

"It is indeed good to hear that people from Eunesia are coming to help us in this war, and most of all, people with experience in the military. Have a sit."

The red-haired man pointed a chair in front of his desk and continued with his speech.

"The situation is dire, as you are certainly aware. The announcement in the Herald had the purpose and objective of attracting experienced people such as yourself to the positions and ranks of the Provincial Army of Sheria, but as you certainly know I can't simply give you a unit of men and send you forward to the war. I'd like to know of your past experiences and you capabilities and most of all, what you would like to do within the Sherian Serpents."

OOC: Okay, Gauls is getting the okay for a heavy infantry lore skill and as soon as he gets me my package details I'll post it in my CIR and everything will be up to speed!!

IC: Tasad took the offered chair, sitting back somewhat relaxed. Somewhat, meaning that when one was being interviewed by a superior officer, wether or not they were in their chain of command, one sat at a modified position of parade rest, hindpaws flat on the floor, paws laid on the knees, head held high, shoulders back, looking straight ahead.

After the Cencoris had finished speaking Tasad's response was typical for the lionoid. Direct, blunt, and to the point. Moving his eyes from the wall to meet the human's behind the desk Tasad said," Sir, my last rank held was that of Senior Chief Petty Officer, in charge of a heavy infantry marine platoon, the Winged Lions. I have slightly over ten years military experience, with nine of those ten as heavy infantry. We were short on trained officers and so I was ordered to fill the breach. Although technically part of the Navy we were formed with the clear intentions of meeting threats that formed within the confines of our shores, and so I have no nautical experience. I know many of the requirements needed to train, drill, equip, defend and attack with a heavy infantry unit, to the size of a platoon. I can dress that line to ensure that there is no opening for the enemy to exploit, and to do maximum damage to said enemy. I have served in eight different minor engagements on the Island of Olympia from driving pirates out of dug in fortified positions, to assulting caves and fighting monsters on their own turf. I know how to motivate and care for my men, ensure proper discipline, and make sure that they will assault the Gates of Aternia if I so require it. Most importantly I can adapt to changes in the field, without having to have my superiors hold my hand and draw it in water colors, and I have ambition, and motivation. As for the Sherian Serpents, I would like to remain in the heavy infantry and perform my duties there, either in training soldiers or by leading them in combat. I am no longer with the Defenders as it was time for me to re-enlist when I heard that there were possible officer openings with the Serpents."

Tasad delivered his speech in his typical rumble. It could be told from the tone of his voice that he was not bragging, but simply answering the question that was put to him, as effectively and quickly as possible.

The Imperial Legionnaire that had delivered his letter at the Thanal office in Vortex was handed over a reply not very long after handing over Eyvind’s letter. The answer had been simple enough that it didn’t require deep thought. As far as she was concerned the request was simply ridiculous. The Imperial forces had thousands at their disposal scattered all over the Empire - most just sitting in fortresses doing nothing - and they were asking distant cities with barely any standing militia for help. She had contained herself make snide remarks on it though.

Secrets :
To Sir Eyvind Redbeard Avornmagor Björnsson, Cencoris of the 1st Cohortii of the 2nd Daos of the 9th Imperial Legion, Commander of the Black Shields

Serale,

I’m afraid the city of Vortex does not have the troops nor large stocks of supplies and weaponry to spare. We only keep those things in those quantities as required to keep the order in the city and the surrounding countryside.

Best of luck with your campaign,

Amber Brightwing, Thane of Vortex

Someone had knocked at the door of the Vagaran's Officer. As usual the Cencoris was dealing with reports regarding the state of the Provincial Army. The First and the Third Regiments were in Everdark, the Second was on its way to Draelmar, the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth were working and protecting the construction of the road to Deepwood. Now he had to pause his work to attend to yet another volunteer, or maybe just a letter coming in.

"Come in."

He said and waited for whoever to enter his Office.

Timestamp: 40th brightening in the Month of Kalendryas, Winter
Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum

Ar arrived at the office one cycle--to the brightening--after he was dispatched. True, he hadn't rushed over, but he'd come within a reasonable amount of time. Being able to hitch a ride on the military frigate had helped speed that along. It had also helped him bypass the gates entirely. It could be handy working for the military.

The mercenary knocked thrice, and when he heard the permission for entrance, he opened the door and strode in, his letter already in his hand. Aside from a quick "Serale," he didn't say much, just set the letter on the man's desk.

Cencoris Eyvind Bjornsson
9th Manjet Legion
Darkblade Fortress, Taralon, Confederation of the Sherian

Secrets :

Imperial Ministry of War
30th Kalendryas, Winter in the Second Era of the Regency of His Most Imperial Excellency Milo L'Evienne.

Cencoris,

I present to you one Aratar, a citizen who is intent on doing the business of the Imperial Legions without the restrictiveness imposed upon those who serve under the Imperial Standard. I trust you will understand his situation completely.

To this end, I enclose a letter of marque in his name from the Imperial Minister of War, as well as a written guarantee of full immunity from Imperial or provincial or municipal prosecution for any acts he may have done in the service of the Empire and the Imperial Legions. He is free to take any enemy bounty as he can carry or see fit to take, within reason.

Use him as you may see fit. Send charges for costs for his upkeep and recompense as well as any further communication to the Imperial Ministry of War by means of the usual Imperial Classis resupply frigate.

Victory and the Gods ride with us.

By Command of the Imperial Minister of War:

Julius Lundtgardh
Provost, 26th Imperial Shields.

Aratar was in his black street outfit, seeing no need to strap on armor for a boatride, though his twin longknives rode on his hips comfortably and his stiletto rest easily in his right boot. He smiled congenially as he waited to hear what this man had to say to him. The Provost had left him, without any instructions other then to come present the letter to Eyvind, so he had done so.

The question now was, what would this Evyind do with him?

Aratar

When the door was opened and a Elf strode in it wasn't a Vagaran that he saw, but a Dorin. A jet black Dorin with an enormous jaw. If Aratar was to peer on his rank he would see that he was a Shield Daekin and not a Cencoris.

"Cencoris Eyvind Redbeard isn't here. He departed and is in the frontline. As for me I was forced to stay behind and deal with paper work."

He spoke with a tired voice and to show how tired he way he threw some reports behind his back. Then looking up with an almost malicious grin he stated.

"It seems whoever sent you didn't know the war already started. We are in a rush in here. I think you can follow to the frontline in a few Brightenings with the reinforcements to the Manjet. As for that letter." he returned it without even opening it "Deliver it to him personally, if you find him that is. That lad is crazy when it comes to making a war and I wouldn't be surprised if he had dyed his hair with black and his skin with green and changed his horse to a worg just to reach Ire and kill the Gothmog himself. It would certainly end this war...but well...

In the meanwhile feel free to train with the men, take a bunk in the barracks and a meal along with the Legionnaires. Fresh blood is always good to release the pressure. Go tell them tales of beautiful grassy fields full of flowers if you want. Now I have to deal with all these reports."

Moments passed in which the Shield Daekin didn't pay attention to the Ef.

"You're still standing there? Lad, if you are here it is for one thing and one thing only: to kill Orcs. Otherwise no one would come to Sheria, no one with two fingers of forehead that is, I've seen people so crazy they came here to eat Spring berries. Anyway, join the men, visit the armory if you need anything, get ready. Orders may arrive at any moment and I don't want you to delay the departure of my men, lad. You're dismissed."

Aratar looked at the Dorin curiously and tilted his head to the side as he reclaimed the letter, listening as he gave the long speech. When he described the situation, Ar's brow quirked upwards curiously. Just what the Aeternia type of man was this Redbeard fellow? It would be an interesting meeting once they finally were face to face, of that Aratar was confident. When the offer was laid down he nodded.

"I'll take you up on that. A bunk and a hot meal sound rather inviting at the moment. I found out, on the trip here that I don't do incredibly well with boats. A bit of seasickness. Besides, I spent pretty much the last of my free coin to buy myself some armor to make sure I don't die out there in the first candlemark." He turned and headed for the door, then paused. The Dorin had mentioned something about training...

"You wouldn't happen to have anyone who could give a few lessons on dual longknives, would you? I'd like to survive my first day, and someone to help me with my combat skill would help ensure that."

"Longknives? Those are babies' weapons! I don't know exactly how you intend on fighting in this war but we usually use a sword or a spear. Anyway...if you want to cut the Orcs' fruit you can due it, just don't tell me I didn't warn you. You should check in the Training Fields outside the city for someone, maybe from the Blades of Carmelya. Those rangers may know how to teach you. Now disappear from my sight before I get hungry..."

He said without even paying attention to his own words and dived in the paperwork once more.

There was one main reason why Aratar used longknives. He'd seen them used only once in his life. That was a moment he'd never forget. It was a street brawl. Eighteen people were mixed up in a territory fight, three of which had been orcs. The side wit the orcs had eleven people, versus the other's seven. The side against the orcs was getting pushed back, and pushed back hard. When the ninteenth person showed, reinforcing the seven, he was clearly a hired hand...and he knew his stuff. Inside of five minutes not a single one of the other eleven were conscious much less standing, and precious few of them were breathing. The man with the longknives had, in one swift and terrible smattering of instances, ripped the entire defense to shreds, orcs and all.

This man in currently in front of Ar might have been a seasoned veteran, but he clearly had never seen what a properly trained pair of longknives could do.

"Alright...but if they ask for crowns, I'm going to have them bill the legion as per the Ministry's agreement." It wasn't a question. The Provost had clearly offered to pay expenses, and Aratar could have been stingy and saved his crowns for training rather then armor, but he had figured they would rather pay a small handful of crowns to some rangers rather then a precious suit of armor that usually was scarce near the front line. It was a better deal for them all around.

He left, closing the door behind him, glad he didn't have to salute and call that ignorant canine 'sir'. Yes, mercenary work suited him far better then enlisted soldiering, of that much he was sure.

The dark mage was invited into Eyvinds office and she did so promptly. She wanted to get free armor and an axe to match.

I heard from the herald that you are searching for competent soldiers, elite warriors to serve you on the battle front. I am Yura and I hail from vortex, rumors spread like wild fire that you were after soldiers mercenaries whatever you could get your hands on.

If you wish for the services of a Shadow Knight to help you in this war then all I require is heavy plate, chain mail, and padded armor and a battle axe to match and to be put with a decent squad.

You shouldnt turn your eye to the dark arts, there are precious few mages. If you take me under your wing I shall promise you the screams of your enemies as they rot and burn beneath our feet.

Tasad

An Heavy Infantry Officer? Interesting, very interesting indeed! Eyvind didn't know this man at all, but he had credencials, the Defenders were a force known to some and ten Eras of experience were far more than the Vagaran himself had. The number of soldiers this man would receive would be that of a Company, one hundred men.

"Very well. Let's see what you can do as a Captain of the Serpents! You are now officially the leader of a Company of the Second Regiment, the Sons of Sheria. Your superior Officer will be Regimental Commander Veleraen, he's a Giant and a Knight and he will be the one in charge of any orders from now on."

The Vagaran took a pen and started writing a letter. When he was done he gave it to Tasad and stood up offering his hand for a handshake.

"You can go to the Armory of Darkblade to get whatever weapons or armor you may need. Then journey north to Draelmar Hold and meet the Second Regiment. Give Sir Veleraen this letter upon your arrival."

Secrets :
Serale my friend.

I send you this now Captain Tasad R'owl to lead a Company of one hundred Heavy Infantrymen. He is a former member of the Olympian Defenders and seems experient enough to help you, take him under your wing.

Hopefully we will meet again soon enough to drink some ale and talk about how lovely Sheria is at this time of the Era.

Signed,
Eyvind.

Yura

An already known warm spread from the medallion the Vagaran had hanging from his neck the moment Yura stepped in his Office. Jorel...Jorelite. The female started speaking before he could do anything and it somehow helped him calming down and avoided having him reaching for his sword to behead the heretic. Eyvind Redbeard stood up and eyed Yura directly in her eyes.

"I...I..." his effort to remain calm was enormous "I don't deal will Aeternians..." he grabbed an hold on his medallion and threw it to the corner of the Office "But...do you really want to help?" it seemed he was now more at ease.

OOC: Is there a link that you could toss me to where the Hold is? I found one in the wilderness but nobody has posted there and it doesn't seem used right now.

IC: Tasad listened to what Eyvind said hiding his shock well and keeping his face blank and his manner professional. After the human finished writing out the order he handed them to Tasad and stood offering his hand.

Standing in return Tasad took the human's hand and shook it firmly saying," Yes sir! I'll do the job till you find someone better or until I'm dead sir!"

Being dismissed Tasad did a smart about face and headed out of the office. He needed to find the Armory of Darkblade and then set about getting the things together that he would need for the journey. He would also have to find a map to show him how to get to Draelmar Hold.

Exiting the office his mind was planning and organizing as efficently and quickly as it ever had in the Defeders.

1st Cycle, Month of Kalendryas, in the Season of Winter,
Era I of the Celestine Mandate,

Era XV Post Fractum

Carly had come to the Daekin's 'Office' almost as soon as she had disembarked from the boat, even before she had sought lodgings. She had barely stopped to slip her robes of Office over her shoulders to show her position as Ikos Councillor to the Imperial Magus. Though her robes were so far not seen outside of Portshire or Prime, they were official looking enough to indicate she was some important government official. Enough to recieve a nice salary at least.

She came to the office and knocked promptly, upon her admittance she would offer a hand for the military man to shake, knowing that the sight of a slight, adolescent sea elf in the robes of an Imperial Office were often quite offputting at first sight. Strangely enough, she thought she had met this man before. "Serale Daekin, I'm here with some offers for you."
