Magus is 20!? I thought he was, like, 14!
A strange silence reigned on the gathered crowd, tense with frustration (from Iluvian's supporters mostly), hardly refrained joy (from Mirwen's) and mere anticipation. The Elementals themselves seemed to have frozen where they stood, as Madwhisper and its Mistress went about gauging the two midget Elementals to decide which one it should attack first.
Eventually, they chose Feyra. Possibly because Mirwen couldn't stand seeing her ugly face any longer; but whatever the reason, Madwhisper did exactly as before, charging up and then releasing a trio of lightning bolts on the poor Salamander. Thankfully, Feyra seemed to have a thing for jumps and she took shelter behind the nearest boulder. Earth, as Magus had correctly foreseen, could ground Mirwen's attacks and provide Feyra with some shelter. She kept leaping around as the Air creature unleashed more and more deadly electrical energies – she was undoubtly good at fleeing, almost a natural talent.
It was then that the Rodenti, seeing the Adept was somewhat distracted by the hunt, did his own move. Burrowing quickly in the ground, Sausage emerged right next to the augmentation gem, preparing to catch it in its coil and take it away. Spelsner squeaked, delighted... until a lightning bolt struck his snake-thingy the very moment it was about to touch the gem, incinerating the creature straight away. "My real target was you" said the Elven girl, facing the depressed Mousai on the verge of crying "You always deal with the biggest threat first; which leaves out the weakest of them all... Madwhisper, destro..."
Mirwen had momentarily taken her eyes off the battlefield, but that had been her first mistake. For Feyra had not forgotten her Master's words... "Get a hold of the Elemental's gem... like this, Master?" What Feyra hadn't mentioned was that her tongue was really, really long. Her crimson, chameleon-like serpentine tongue had reached across the arena, coiling itself around the gem, which she then fetched back with a simple snapping movement. Before Madwhisper could do anything, Feyra had swallowed the gem, and her body had been enveloped with raw, blazing flames.
Herwitz grinned. 'Splendid, boy, splendid. he thought 'An Elemental is made of a planar entity which is given a shell to exist on the Material Plane. It turns out that this boy's Elemental was far too powerful to fit the small Apprentice shell it was given. But now... now we get to see its true form!'
Feyra's favorite complete form was big. Big, four-legged, and scary. The Salamander matched an average crocodile in size, and breathed short bursts of fire from her reptilian mouth, gifted with four, threatening fangs. It emanated a fiery aura, and the tip of its long tail had merged with the Earth sword; when she arched her tail over her back, the audience was reminded of a big, vicious scorpion. "What now, Master?" she asked, her voice being pretty much the only thing about her that had not changed. Meanwhile, Mirwen had overcome the surprise from the unexpected turn of events, and Madwhisper had once again begun to charge up.
