Stranger at the Red Mullet (Vers, Intro to The Bounty Hunter's Guild)

In the Red Mullet Inn and Tavern, in the corner of the bar, sat a man at a table. No one was around him. All were laughing and making merry around him, but none dared to go near to him. He was cloaked in black, and sat near the fireplace that heated the Inn. He smoked a pipe and scanned the area of the inn for possible recruits. Possible mercanaries. Possible bounty hunters.

Sometime during the brightening she had arrived in Vers Carly headed to the Red Mullet Inn looking for a room while she visited. After finding a room and getting changed from her travelling clothes she headed down to the tavern to get a meal and a mead, propping her sword beside her at the table she sat, drinking from her mug and examining the faces in the room with something akin to a scowl.

This thelyri had things on her mind today, big important things, and she did not appreciate the merry making the noisy patrons were doing. It interrupted her thoughts.

Looking up from where he was sitting, the man noticed the young theylri sitting down to eat a meal, and drink some mead. She might make a perfect person to join the guild, he thought, as he stood up, and began to make his way over to where she was sitting. Once he finally arrived there, only a few moments after she had recieved her food and mead, he loomed over her, and then asked, "Might I take a seat next to you?" He'd await her reply before saying anything more...

Carly chewed her food thoroughly before bothering to answer the dodgey looking man, most people who wore black were shifty, she thought, for she often did it herself. She took a gulp of her mead and grinned at him. "Go ahead straner," she replied "What brings you to Vers then? Or do you just come here to drink."

The man took a seat across from Carly, and then looked towards her. "Actually, i reside here in Vers... i'm apart of a certain... guild some might say. they give me shelter, and in return, i do favors for them..." he said, almost immediately getting straight to the point. She might make a good bounty hunter, but one couldn't tell by just looking at them, they had to talk with them as well. "What brings you to Vers?" he asked, and then thought for a moment, thinking he had seen her somewhere. "Have I perhaps seen you in the halls of the newly opened Imaden's School of Arcana?" His inquiry was making an attempt at conversation, if she was up for it.

Carly munched down on her food as the man spoke, taking gulps of mead inbetween to space out her chewing. She found it interesting the man lived in Vers but was so shadowy, perhaps he worked for the secretive group who ran the city?

She coughed on her mead when he thought he had recognised her from the halls. "Yes, you would have seen me there, I am here for Arcana training in fact" she said, not saying she was seeking Master promotion. She would let her age fool him into thinking her an initiate, or an apprentice perhaps.

Looking at her intensely as she said she was there for arcane training, the man did indeed not picture her as one going for the Master levels. Instead he saw a young theylri whom happened to be taking an initiate or apprentice level course. Raising his hand, and brushing it back through his dark hair, he then asked, "So... might I ask what sphere you're taking arcana in? It's something i've never personally delved into, but perhaps people can change minds by talking about things... I take it your an initiate or apprentice in the sphere that you're taking?" He then awaited a response, and part of him had the feeling it may not at all be a good response, as the theylri certainly had a liking for mead... not very ladylike.

Cast an eye around the room as she listened, bringing them back on the man as he questioned her. She let him sit in silence for a moment as she took another swig of her mead, swilling it around in her cheeks and gulping it down noisily.
"Ikos, actually. I like drawing the runes, gives you time to think about what you're doing rather then just hurling magic at a problem."

The man smiled, and then looked at her as she spoke of the sphere she was taking. "Interesting choice of spheres... not many people indulge themselves in the working of runes... What exactly do you do with this 'arcana' that you use... i've heard ikos works on luck, or chance? What do you normally try to gain a better or worse chance at?" he asked, curious to see how she would respond. Perhaps she was interested in increasing her chances of winning battles, or of coming into a great deal of money. Eitherway, if he managed to recruit her, she'd certainly profit from it...

Carly swished her drink around, taking a bite from her meal and chewing it happily before gulping it down with more mead. The man was certainly nosey, and providing little information of himself. But then again, she was a rather attractive elf, she thought.
"A little of both really, luck and chance. I'm a business girl partly, so I use the runes to... influence my profits. But for fun, ah, for fun. I partake in strange and alluring bounties. Got a lost uncle that disappeared two decades ago and no one has a clue where he went? I'm your girl. The runes let me find all manner of things that no one could dream of stumbling across.

Got a criminal who needs taking down a notch? I'm your woman. Not that I'm a master with this blade, but I do know how to use it." She tapped the hilt of her sword and grinned, fully intending to practise with the thing at some point.

The man was indeed probing and seemed to be wanting a lot more information than most people would choose to give about themselves.

"Seems like you do have a few skills that could earn you a respectable amount crowns if you had the right connections to get you with those who might have a need for your talents. Might you be interested in pursuing a livelihood where you used those skills? At times there's a need for those who are skilled at finding somebody.

"Its just a matter of connections."

Carly, having already put serious consideration to the prospect of bounty hunter before nodded eagerly now. "Quite interested, though to be frank. It would be more of a hobby then a livelihood, I'm quite well off at the moment. Enough not to starve or have to wear rags."

The man smiled at her as she spoke of being very interested. "Well then, we'll welcome you with open arms, you're talents sound good enough to me, so would you like to see where we are located at? I could show you the way, or you could find it yourself, whichever you like better..." he said, and then awaited a response from the young ikomancer...

Carly swilled the rest of her drink into her mouth, gulping it down, and then taking a handful of her meal and shoving it into her mouth stood up, taking her sword and attaching it to her belt. She pointed to the door and through muffled cheeks exclaimed "Lead the way."

The man watched as she readied herself, and then allowed her to follow him as he left the tavern. Along the way, he would explain to her that she would knock on the guild door herself, and then tell the person who answered her reason for coming, and who sent her. Then he would take her along the roads of Vers to a small shack, and upon arriving there, would say, "Go, and knock on the door."
