Rune Mastery (Vers, Ikos Master Training, Private, Carly)

The next brightening had come, and Rosalind could be found outside the master's room that her and Carly had visited the night before. Speaking to a fellow master, and exclaiming about how Carly was certainly worthy, in her mind, of becoming a master, she would await her student to arrive once more, so that they could start the training she had been so earnest about getting the very brightening before.

Once Carly did arrive, Rosalind would smile, and then look at her, and say, "Welcome Carly!" Her eyes shining bright, she then said, "Would you like to follow me?" Leading her to a room around the corner of the hallways, she entered, and led Carly to a table that was surrounded by a few cushioned chairs. Upon the table had paper, with ink, as well as some pens, specifically used for creating runes, and sigils. Looking up towards Carly as she took a seat, she said, "Please, have a seat... First things first, we'll be having you learn a few more runes, to start your Master training, before we test you... Any ideas which ones you might like to learn next?" She then awaited a response from the Thelyri before continuing an explanation...

Carly had dressed lightly and comfortably for the day, her thelyri blue skin giving her the benefit of ignoring the cold, and hurried along to the meeting place with a grin on her face and pockets full of chalk. She gave a short bow to Rosalind before she was lead to the new room and it's oppulent furnishings, least ways, oppulent in terms of what she'd had to deal with previously at Imaden.

She came and sat down opposite the cether, taking some chalk from her pocket and placing it on the table with the inks and pens. As usual, her eyes didn't flick over the objects, because she saw them all in a flash within her head as her footsteps zipped about the room in the form of sound waves.

Carly sat with her elbows on the table, her chin propped on her hands, considering the question she had often asked herself. At this point in her magical career, finding a rune that appealed to her psyche directly might be considered foolish, or might present as an impossible task. She would be wiser, she thought, to pick runes that would aid her in her current endeavours. Infact, she already had a mental list.

"Well, as a matter of fact, yes I do. I thought Pipitili, Karowl, and Uram actually."

Rosalind sat across from her, and looked at her, a broad smile on her face. "Pipitili, Karowl, and Uram, eh?" she asked, briefly. Looking towards her, as she thought for a moment, about the runes that Carly had chosen, and then about the ways in which to teach her, she first decided that knowing the reason as to why Carly had chosen these runes was key to teaching. "Very well, we shall start with Pipitili, but first, i'd like for you to explain to me exactly why you have chosen the runes of Pipitili, Karowl, and Uram? And i'd like you to also explain how you might use these three runes to interact with the other runes that you've been taught previously. After you've explained this, i'll show you the rune of Pipitili." He request was simple, and spoken elagantly, albeit a bit wordy, but she loved to talk, and if she could teach a class just by talking, and never demonstrating, she would gladly do so...

Carly grinned, taking her hands from her chin and placed them carefully folded in her lap. She explained her reasons for choosing the runes, that they were useful runes to possess after choosing all her previous runes by seeking them out through clara. She was practically spent aligning herself with runes, and how they related to her.

These three runes were the most useful to her, and would make her much more versatile in her sigil crafting. She could easily represent the concepts of the other runes through multiple runes, and she did not desire to use Rotopsi in any of her spells. Especially since she possessed the opposities of much of her own runes in other meanings.

Carly fell silent, her reasons exposed to the Master now. In truth she had studied all the runes and knew their theoretical meanings, where she did not know them was within her heart. She knew how to trace the runes, but not how best to draw meaning from them in art. She sat and watched, and listened. She enjoyed listening.

Rosalind listened and then said, "Tell me all you know of PIPITILI. Draw the Rune, make the sound of p. then talk about it to me.

"I want you to start this and then we will proceed.

There will be time enough for us to work together and have you learn all it is that you require.

Carly, used to this song and dance by now, took solace in the establishment of new traditions. Taking up a quill and carefully drawing out Pipitili from memory. Making p noises as she did so, spittle joining the ink on the page. "Pipitili is the rune for a sentient creature, a man, an orc, a very intelligent fish. Unlike the runes that represent gods, pipitili represents mans inability to make true impressions on the world. Sentient creatures are aware, but weak. They possess souls, which makes them differant from an animal, or a fish." She grinned widely here, briefly remembering her breakfast. "It's a rune for representing another person, which is useful because people are difficult to deal with. They have freewill, however the secondary nature of the rune negates this ability to choose, saying that men are unable to affect their fate.

It's a very useful thing to have, without it I've been unable to affect people directly, or well. I've known about it in theory, but I've yet to study it indepth and come to terms with it as I have my other runes."

Rosalind smiled, and the cether then said, "Good, you're knowledge of the rune is all well, and you are absolutely correct. Pipitili can act on the will of men, or their lack of will. It is our abilities to focus on the rune and perhaps make it more likely that people will be able to accomplish something. Perhaps you want to come into a greater sum of money? You could case a sigil with pipitili in it and attempt to affect the way a person gains their money, and cause the flow of it to come to you instead of that person. It will take time to accept this rune, as it is a very strong one and can affect the will and fates of people... For today, I want you to practice this rune, concentrate on it, and attempt to affect the will of one of our apprentices."

She then left the room, only to return with an apprentice named Jonas. "This is Jonas... I want you to practice using Pipitili in a sigil with two other runes, to try and cause something to happen to him, change his will, or fate, and we'll see the results unfold. This will be the first step in accepting a new rune into your heart, and understanding it fully..." she said, and then allowed Carly to take the time to practice the rune...

Carly waited for the hapless apprentice to appear, trying to think of ways in which she could affect his fate. It called for something obvious and recent. Sitting in the room, she rarely felt the cold, but it was a fairly cold brightening in Vers. Once he was settled Carly grinned, deciding to heat Jonas up a bit.

She took up her chalk and some parchment and began to trace out the runes of Evo and Genas for warmth, using Pipitli to indicate both the man and his body. She shaded the runes and sketched them in their various directions to indicate their meanings, pausing upon Pipitili to consider which direction would best indicate the man/body aspects of the rune. And finally, once she had done this, she sketched Jonas himself in near lifelike visage, sweating profusely. Having done this she slipped away into clara to meditate upon the sigil, only to tear it up after having exited the meditative state.

She winked at Jonas once she was done, chewing her lip and waiting for Rosalinda to say something. Dimly remembering all those times the Cether had busied herself reading or writing whilst she practiced. All the time she spent entering clara had only been trading for perfecting the runes she created, making sure the artfulness of the sigils was up to standard.

As she drew the sigil, and attempted to cast the spell, nothing happened. Rosalind was not surprised as she was reading a book she had pulled from the shelf whilst awaiting Carly to finish the sigil and spell. Looking up from her book, she then said, "We shall wait for a little while to see if anything happens to him in the near future. Because you are not of master status, it might be extremely difficult to accept a new rune into your heart, but I was just curious to see if you could do it or not... Anyways, Now, i want you to tell me about the rune Karowl, draw it, and explain it's meaning to me..." She then awaited a response from Carly and her answer to the question. Only time would tell if Jonas would feel his body start to heat up from the sigil that Carly had casted.

Carly hardly expected Jonas to start sweating immediately, and she refused to pay the matter any further attention. Putting herself to the heart of the matter she began to draw Karowl from memory, for she had memorised the shapes of the known runes to better combat any other Ikos mages taking a fancy to her demise.

She even gave the rune it's own colours, red, white, and purple. Very regal colours in her mind. "What a nice experiment... let's see. Karowl. My memory dictates that the rune represents 'Force, power, might, divine, rite of passage, strength, a god, or goddess, saint, king, planatar, archmage, a man of godlike power, a halo, or an aura. It's a very pushy rune, useful for bringing divine justice, malcontent, or defining concepts such as the church of faith, or a political struggle.
"

After Carly finished talking about Karowl, and showed Rosalind, the cether looked at it, and admired the pretty colors it was drawn in. "Very good," she said, and then as she continued to look towards the rune, she asked, "Now, because this rune can be so dangerous to the government, or any high ranking person, depending on how you use it, we will not practice it as of yet. Instead, i'd like you to give me an example of a sigil that might use this rune, and explain what the sigil would affect, and what the outcomes of using this sigil might be..."

The elf rested her drawing fingers, putting the chalk and inks aside and stretching out her hands as she spoke. Secretly amused by the notion that the rune could be inadvertently dangerous to the government, or that she really cared what might befall them in the end. Even if they were her employers. "Hmm, well. Say I wanted to gain a level of respect, from a number of Masters, in order to be promoted. That's a sort of 'rite of passage' as well as a level of 'power'. I could use the rune, along with Bhun for friendship and such, maybe Uram to indicate the concensus of the group, Pipitilli for their sentience.

The sigil would focus more on the... rite of promotion, then affecting the group. The sigil would make the ritual of promotion more likely to succeed, and sooner. As to outcomes, it would either happen, or it would not. Though the probabilities surrounding the 'event' would be skewed from the norm."

Rosalind grinned an interested grin as Carly explained how she might use the runes with each other. "Very very good, Now, as to why you would want to manipulate the Masters like that, i'd have NO idea... but, it is what it is... So, Let us learn about the third Rune that you wish to welcome into your heart... Uram... Tell me about that rune, and draw it for me," she said...

"Uram.. uram.. ah! Uram. The hive rune, the community, the society. I was very interested in this one, since I was ... experimenting with numbers in runes and how the subconcious takes them on. It can mean many, or a combination, union, marriage, whole, cooperation, and on the outliers it can mean friendship, love, horse and rider." She picked up the ink in one hand and chalk in the other and carefully drew out the rune from memory, bordering it in thin black outlines as she shaded the insides of the rune.

"It's a very useful rune, then again, they all are. But Uram represents a lot of various concepts, there's a lot within it that is useful. Did you want me to try this out, or shall we wait until I've achieved 'Master status'? I'm not sure I want to summon a horde of ants into the room..."

"Actually, summoning a horde of ants would not be good, we wouldn't want the halls of Imaden flooded with ants... Perhaps you can just explain to me a sigil that might help you to summon ants to the halls of this great school, and we can talk about it instead of actually proceeding with doing it..." she said, and then looked up towards Carly. As she awaited Carly's response, Jonas had begun to sweat just the littlest bit upon his brow, but didn't show any other signs of his body heating up yet...
