"Now, basically kneading the dough involves taking the flour, and ever so genty, and continously adding a little water to it. This will pull it together, and allow you to knead it properly. Always add water to the flour, and not the otherway around, otherwise it won't clump properly, and will turn more soupy and stewish than it should..." she said, and then began to demonstrate it with the flour and the pot of water she had brought. Slowly but surely, adding more water to the dough made it more doughy, and less floury. Looking towards Lyssoryl, she then said, "Now, let's see you try..."

Lyssoryl selected a large wooden bowl for herself, and added a similar amount of flour to what Sera had used. Then she went to the pump and got a pitcher of water, making sure her hands were washed while she was there. Standing on her stool, she began to add bits of water, smooshing it into the flour with her hands.
The sticky dough clung to her fingers, an odd sensation. She continued to work water into the mix until the consistency seemed close to the dough Sera was working on.
"Is this approximately right?" she asked.

As Lyssoryl worked upon the dough, Sera watched over her shoulder to make sure she was doing it right. Every so often, the teacher would adjust Lyssoryl's hands to make sure they were properly kneading, and working the dough around. Once it was to Sera's satisfaction, she then said, "Now, we are going to take some yeast, and powder the dough with it, and then knead it into the dough. We don't want too much, otherwise it will expand too much, so we want to try and make it just enough. Like i said before, Cooking is all experimentation, so let's experiment!" She then took some of the yeast, and placed it in with her batch of dough, little by little, until she stopped, and looked towards Lyssoryl. "Now, you're turn..." she said, and then awaited Lyssoryl to finish the current task at hand...

Lyssoryl tried to duplicate the amount of yeast that Sera had selected. It stuck to her dough-ridden fingers though, and while she thought she got about the right amount she wasn't entirely sure. Her sticky fingers had made it hard to sprinkle, but she got it spread out enough so that she was pretty sure it wouldn't be lumpy, and kneaded vigorously to get it distributed.
"Do you ever make bread with herbs in it? I've seen bread like that and always thought it smells very good."

"Of course i've made bread with herbs, if you wish we could add some onions, or garlic to this bread? and see how it comes out?" she asked. "How about this, i'll add onions, and you can add garlic to yours..." She went over, and grabbed an onion, and a thing of garlic, and then said, "Let's cut these up, and add them to our bread, then we'll see cook the dough, and see how everything comes out..." She then cut up the onion, and kneaded it into her bread, and awaited Lyssoryl to do the same with the garlic...

Lyssoryl minced her garlic into tiny pieces using quick motions of a small knife. She had always enjoyed the smell of garlic, and gave her cloves a quick sniff. She minced about 4 cloves, then sprinkled them over the dough and began kneading them in.
"I am somewhat concerned that if I learn to make garlic bread that I might eat until I can no longer exit through my doorway. I suppose being poor helps me there."
"How do you know when you're done kneading? Are we just mixing all the ingredients or is some other mysterious process occuring?"

"Right now we are just mixing all of the ingrediants in. The amazing process will happen once we put them in the oven, and watch them cook. They should come out about the size of a rabbit, and have a golden brown color to them, but we shall see. Now, let's place them upon the pan, and then put them into the oven..." said Sera, and then did just that with her dough that she had kneaded...

lyssoryl carefully arranged her dough in the bread pan and went to check the oven to see if it seemed like a good temperature, then carried the pan over and put it in.
'i do so love the smell of baking bead! she said enthusiastically! i wish they made a perfume that smelled that way, i would certainly buy it.'

As the bread baked, it was certainly apparent that it had been done right. A foot long loaf of bread came out on Lyssoryl's side. "Good job!" said Sera. "This completes your training as a basic cook!"

"Thank you so much!" Lyssoryl gave her teacher a hug. "I believe I shall wear a red ribbon in my hair by way of celebration and as a mark of rank. But of course, one never stops learning."
