"Just fill out this form, and then we'll be having the Talent show on the 27th of Kalendryas..." said the attendent, and then handed the form to Xylthas.

Xyltha picked up the form, and mulled quietly to himself. It seemed that this Talent show would involved putting on some kind of act, and impressing others with not only his arcane talents, but also his showmanship.

For now, Xyltha had yet to work out a routine to perform for his audience. Given his meagre repertoire of spells at his disposal, his options were limited. He would need some time to think this through, and practise and plan ahead well before the Talent show came around. Well, he had a few brightenings left, so he would have time to get this sorted out.

Carefully, he penned in his details on the form, opting to leave the props blank for the moment. He would tell them of his needs at a later date, once he had his routine all sorted out.

"Thanks. Are there any rules regarding the talent show; how long we are allowed to perform, or any other such restrictions?"

The attendent looked quizzitively at Xyltha, but then answered his question without further hesitation. "Each Initiate shall be limited to three spells, due to the fact it takes them so long to enter their Clara. So, it should be approximately a half an hour for each of the initiates that participate... Uhm, also, i'd get here early in the morning, in case your name is one of the first picked out of the jar..." he mentioned, and then awaited any further questions that Xyltha might have...

As Xyltha spoke to the attendant, a halfling girl with impressive quantities of blonde curls pinned up on her head in an elaborate formation that somewhat resembled a storm cloud walked up the the booth. Though she was wearing a coat, the bottom of an apron could be seen hanging down below it. She was carrying a tray with a steaming bowl of stew, a large bread roll, a slab of cheese, and a mug of ale.

"I've brought you a snack. It is vital that you keep your strength up, lest distracted by hunger you mistakenly enroll an initiate in the master's duels to tragic effect." She placed the tray up on the corner of the booth.

She noticed Xyltha's entry form. "You're for the talent show, are you? If you should require a lovely assistant for your act you should let me know. I might just be free, you never know your luck. My skills are many and varied. I can sing a song, act the part of a child in a skit, or do brave battle with a dragon- assuming that it is some form of puppet and not a real one. She mimicked extravagent swordplay with an imaginary sword. "Also, I make excellent pancakes, although I doubt anyone would wish to watch."

OOClol, I almost RPed you as a katta, I blame your avatar. You're a halfling right?

Xyltha was taken aback by the sudden appearance of a short runty of a halfling, even more when she offered her services as his assistant for his routine at the talent show. It wasn't every brightening that one was attacked by a sudden storm cloud that sat atop a halfling's head.

"Oh, serale. Are you also going to take part in the Talent Show? I don't know if we can pair up for it."

"Umm... Is that allowed?" He asked the elf who staffed the booth. Not that he planned on accepting the stranger's offer, generous though she was. He wasn't even sure she was sound of mind...

OOC: Oops, good point. Yes, I'm halfling. I haven't found a good avatar that is free of copyright issues yet, but I hope to upgrade when I get the chance.

"Oh, I don't know, I might slip into it one way or another. I'm an initiate in the school of song, so it makes sense that I should perform. I can't imagine why they would forbid someone to have an assistant, but since you apparently didn't expect such flexibility I'm guessing that wasn't in your plans. Still, if you decide otherwise, my name is Lyssoryl and I can often be found working in the school kitchen."

The attendant looked from the elf to the halfling as they exchanged pleasantries about the talent show. When Xyltha asked if they could pair up, the attendant said, "Why not, i'll mark you down as Xyltha, and... what was your name miss?" After he asked, he handed her the same sign in sheet that he had handed to Xyltha just a few moments beforehand.

"Lyssoryl. Lyssoryl Sunnybrooke. But the gentleman did not say he wanted my help yet, he may have other plans." She took the piece of paper. "If he prefers to act alone, I may just whip up my own act. But I shall need some time to consider what I shall require for props. Speaking of which, what sort of range of props are available? If I wished to tame a brace of lions, would they be able to provide me with some?"

"Why not? If we can act together, with you also an Initiate Songcaster, we might just pull this off. Who would have ever thought of combining sorcery and song together?!"

Excitement began to build within the elfling. Surely between the two of them, they'd be able to come up with something worthy of praise and surprise.

"Well, why don't we go find a place to plan a routine and practice it before the Talent shows. We'd be able to get a few brightenings of practice before it started."

He looked expectantly at the halfling, waiting for her agreement, and consequent signature on the sheet. He still didn't have the foggiest of what kind of act the two of them might come up with, but with the two of them working on it, he wasn't overly worried.

"That suits me just fine, if you're willing to join forces!" Lyssoryl said with a smile. "Performing on one's own has it's advantages, but I do enjoy working as a team. It's so much more friendly."

"I've not seen you around the university, are you new in town? We could make plans in the school cafeteria, or if you prefer, the Red Mullet tavern. I work in the kitchen so I believe I can mooch us free food at the cafeteria but there would be neither beer nor ale nor wine."

She signed her name to the entry form with a flourish.

Ah huh, so that's why she's loaded with food. She works at the university kitchen, did she? Not one to pass on the offer of free food, Xyltha hurriedly concurred with her suggestion.

"Well, I only recently arrived for the Festival, so I doubt you would have seen me around before this brightening. Why don't we go to the school cafeteria and plan our talent show there, then? Are you free at the moment?"

Ah huh! His plan for scrounging free food was going to pay off, soon! Muhahaha!

He waited for a reply, or the halfling to lead the way to the University kitchens. He didn't know his way around here, after all.

The attendant laughed at what Lyssoryl was saying, and then said, "Not at the initiate level, i don't think, anyways, you two can be on your way, the initiate talent show is on the 27th, so if you have any questions, feel free to return here in the future, or ask one of the attendants at other events..."

"As it happens, I am, so I shall lead the way. Apparently we shall have to make plans which do not include any lions, but I am undaunted. And I'm afraid I still don't know your name, which is a fact that might come in handy."

Lyssoryl lead the way to the cafeteria, veering expertly through the crowds of festival goers. Once there, the pair found a table in an out of the way corner. She disappeared into the kitchen, but shortly reappeared with a tray of refreshments. She set the tray on the table and climbed up on the chair, her feet swinging in the air.

"It seems to me that the difficult part will be to incorporate magic into the act in a way that won't cause everyone's eyes to roll up into their heads while we're reaching clara. There's only so much dead space an act can survive. It will probably help if we start the show with one or the other of us already in clara. Hmm...actually, I'm not entirely sure what sort of spells are available to you. Do you have any that are showy and dramatic?"
