"That was a very soothing song indeed. Are you still alright to continue, or do you want to take a break?"

"I would gladly take another stab at the song if you're keen to hear it. But honestly, I shall have an easier time with my spell than you will with yours. You have to not only cast your spell but manipulate the light as a supporting actor. All I have to do is cast. If we impress the audience with magical talent you will be the star, not I. Assuming that no one makes a rukus with the cookware I believe that I shall not have difficulty."

She took another drink. Then concentrated, slipping back into clara. The fatigue from her previous spell was in many ways a help with this song rather than a hindrance, as tiredness made her naturally relax.

This time she sang more dramatically, with a louder voice, aiming to relax the furtherest helper in the kitchen.

"Oh, it's all right, you haven't disturbed us at all," Sera said to Xyltha. "If anything it was us that disturbed you!" She then smiled, and made her way back into the kitchen to continue cooking for the almost empty cafeteria. It would soon be lunch time, and the cafeteria would become much more busy that it had originally been that day.

As Lyssoryl began to sing the lullaby, the melody flowed through her, and relaxed her tired body even more. It was almost had to stay awake, as the song felt so relaxing, but at the same time, not enough to put someone to sleep. As it flowed through them, and she finished singing, it was apparent that the tip she had taken from Sera had done the trick, to make the song more potent. They certainly felt as if there was no problems in the world...

Xyltha had closed his eye, his mind lulled into a pleasant day dream landscape of scampering cabbits and seductive mermaids. It was a pleasure to listen to the music coming from his partner. His ears were not expert to music or songs, but he knew what he liked, and he liked this one.

"Very nicely performed, Lyssoryl. You're a natural at this. How long have you been singing for? I love your voice, are all Cethers as good singers as you? With you on the team, I'm sure we'll woo the audience's heart."

Indeed, the song was quite refreshingly pleasant, and would set the ambiance of the stage once they got on it. Once he managed to master his light globes.... He brooded on the problem at hand. He'd have to get in a few brightenings of solid practise if he was to hold up his end of the bargain in this partnership.

"Why thank you! You're quite sweet. I have been singing all my life. It's cheap entertainment available to all, from the highest of lords to the lowest of street urchins, the latter being more my situation. As to other Cether, I am not sure I'm as much of an expert as you might think, having grown up amongst humans. The Cether I've known have been inclinded to sing about as much as the humans I've known."

"Would you care to have another try at making you fairy light? Or are you all cast out for the day?"

Xyltha nodded.

"No no, I think I still have enough strength in me to attempt a few more times. I guess I'll give it another go now."

With that, he forced his body into a state of artificial calm. Closing his eyes, he let his mind clear itself. Entering Clara once more, he extracted more Force from the planes of magic, and crafted the mana into the Sphere of Light once more. Thence, he would have lunged the relatively harmless globe at the Cether in mock attempt to intimidate her with its glowiness. He peeked open his eyes - hoping to catch a glimpse of the globe and gauge its strength and success this time round.

This time it worked a little bit better for the elf. The globe moved forwards and settled over the head of the little cether before it flickered out...

Xyltha grumbled to himself. His mood darkened - how long was it to take him to master this simplest of spells, especially when a lot of the play-acting would depend on the stability and endurance of his casting.

The spell had evidently taken its toll on him - his face was covered with rivulets of sweat streaming freely down. Wiping his forehead with the sleeves of his shirt, he poured himself a glass of water. Swiping another biscuit of cream and cherries, sprinkled with lots of sugar and icing, he bit into it and chewed deliberately.

He could feel the void of exhaustion within himself. By his reckoning, he would only be able to attempt one final time before he had spent his pool of channellable mana this brightening.

"I think I'll give it one more time." And hopefully he would be met with more success! He envisaged himself, and his partner on center stage - receiving standing ovations over a successful show! The crowd cheering wildly, calling upon them; "Encore! Encore!" Ah, he could just taste victory, except for just one little snag in his plans.

Those little arcane globes of fireflies.

He centred his focus once more on attaining Clara. It would take more than a few failed attempts to deter him from his goal. Accessing the Essence of Force once more, he would pull them through into the Material Plane and channelled the Mana into a Sphere of Light. Once more, he would send it to hover at the Cether. And he willed it - oh how hard he willed, that it would stay as it was summoned - brighted and "alive".

Will had nothing to do with it, it was a matter of practicing it more and more. The more he practiced it, the more likely it would have a decent effect. As the ball of light moved over the cether's head, it stuck this time, and when Xyltha opened his eyes, it would be bright and alive situated directly over the Cether's head...

Xyltha's face lit up in a grin. Finally, his previous attempts had paid off. He managed to keep the ball of light afloat. Now, all that was left was to mimic the flight of a faerie.

He concentrated on the Sphere of light bobbing above Lyssoryl, and willed it to flip and spin and twirl around in a fashion he would imagine a faerie would do. The aerial acrobatics needed to be realistic, while at the same time still dramatic in its presentation. Thus, he reasoned that the bigger the loops of aerial antics, the better. If only that Sphere would heed him commands.

"Now that's the sort of thing!" Lyssoryl exclaimed. She began to react to the ball of light as if it were a creature. She didn't have a net to chase it with, but she mimicked the action to give Xlytha something to work with.

"I believe I can make it easy on you by swinging the net behind the ball of light without looking too fake. We'll need to apply for props and practice it."

As the orb bobbed and weaved, it reacted to what Xyltha was telling it. But then shortly after, the spell dispelled, and Xyltha found himself extremely tired. He had used up his three initiate spells for the day, and he'd have to recharge his Vis. Lyssoryl on the other hand still had one or two spells left to be sung...

"Very good!" said Lyssoryl. "I think we're nearly there. I'm not sure if there is anything more I should be contributing magically to the skit, but I suppose I could be singing Anthem of Aelyria as we arrive on stage, just to gratuitiously work in a bit more magic. Perhaps I should sing it for you and see if you think the effect is useful for our little play."

Lyssoryl entered clara once more and gathered her energy, then began to sing the anthem in a happy jubilant spirit.

The song worked as it was supposed to, putting everyone in jubilant glory and glee. It would raise their combat performance, and make them feel joyous about the empire around them. Although they weren't fighting, they would feel themselves ready to fight at a moment's notice if called by their regent or empress.

As the song progressed to its natural conclusion, Xyltha could only marvel at the sensations the magicked singing evoked.

He felt gloriously happy - it was nothing like he felt before. A devotion to the Empire and its state leaders welled up within. At that moment, his blood was on fire! He was at the ready to do battle with foes both within and without the empire.

Agitated, he leapt form his chair. His fist was clenched with unquenched thirst for valorous combat. The sung Anthem! Such was its power, in the voice of his Cether companion.

As the song crescendoed into its final stretch, the sensation of duty exploded into an overwhelming sensation of infinite jubilation! The swelling joyous jubilation at being right here, right now; in the presence of the song, and the singer.

Finally, as the song subsided, Xyltha puffed out the breath he was holding in anticipation. It was a long deep sigh of relief. Released of the song, he regained the full faculty of his senses.

He grinned at Lyssoryl.

"Nicely played. I thoroughly enjoyed that, and with any luck so will the audience."

"Thank you! You are sweet. So you think I should sing it then? I suppose that might be a nice idea."

She considered a moment.

"We should return to the booth and speak to them about props, and see what the extent of their collection is. They've said that a brace of lions is out, which I suppose is OK given our theme, but jungle scenery would be nice, as well as a large imposing looking Idol for visual interest. And of course, a pair of large butterfly nets will be essential."
