The Versian Winter Festival Ball (Open to all)

Time Stamp: Kalendryas 49th, the Season of Winter, Era 1 of the Celestial Mandate, Era XV PF

It was finally time for the Versian Winter Ball. When people approached the Imaden, they could see everyone heading for the great hall. Over three hundred people had signed up to head to the ball, and there was plenty of food, as well as music and dancing to be had. It would be a marvolous ball, and everyone would be attending, mostly teachers, and arcanist, but a few other stragglers managed to make their way in.

Upon entering the ball room, one could see it was lit up by hundreds of balls of light hovering over them, all created and imbued by the journeyman sorcerers at Imaden. To the right of the entrance, there was three long tables with beef stew, vegetable stew, and little vegetable trays all layed out neatly. Bowls, and plates happened to be there as well so that people could easily grab what they wished to grab, and eat it on the go.

On the left of the entrance, there was a stage, and on it, five bards where sitting there, playing music so that everyone could dance, and have a merry old time. Ribbons where streaming down the walls inbetween the windows, of all the different colors of each of the schools of Arcana that were at the Imaden. Once someone entered, and announcer announced their name, and perhaps rank if they had one...

Lyssoryl had insisted that Taz, her date for the evening, pick her up early for the ball. Although she had not paid for the ticket herself she reasoned that it was a shame to waste such an expensive ticket by missing valuable dancing time.

She wore a new dress that she had purchased that moring. It was a bit more revealing than she might have chosen had she not made her purchase at the last minute, but it was the best that remained on the rack, and after all was said and done she was pleased with it. It was a strapless flaming red affair, and a bit snug, which hoisted her chest into a fine display. The skirt was ankle-length, but the lower half was rather see-through. She had spent a long time beating her hair into submission, and this evening it surrounded her head in a glorious nimbus of loose blonde curls.

She stared at the ball room with wide eyes. "My goodness, they really did clean the place up nicely!"

As the music played on, and Taz entered with Lyssoryl, he said, "Yes, they really did, normally the great hall is full of students, but now it is full of people being merry and dancing to the music!" As he said this, his eyes drifted over to the food, and then said, "Was that the stuff that you and Sera cooked up? It looks delicious... What would you like to do first? Eat? Dance? Perhaps ask the band if you could perform a song for the people at the ball?"

"Well, I helped her make cream of beef stew, and cut vegetables for the vegetable platters. I'm sure there's more to the banquet than that, for one thing I heard desert mentioned prominently."

"My inclination is to dance first and eat when we've worked up an appetite, although now that you mention it it would be fun to sing a song! Perhaps I should ask about that now, they might not want to break their rythym later on when things are in full swing.

Lyssoryl approached the stage, and waited until the bards finished their song. "Excuse me!" She said brightly. "Would it be alright if I sang a song while the evening is still young and the guests are still arriving? I'd like to impress my date. I am only an initiate bard, but still, I am a bard, so I don't think I will ruin the atmosphere to any irrepairable degree."

As Taz listened to what Lyssoryl was saying, he smiled, and then said, "Sure, i'd love to try it after we dance... But you should go up there and see if they'll let you sing one of your bard songs that you learned. Perhaps something jubilant that everyone would love to dance to..." His suggestion obviously being something like the Anthem of Aelyria, but she could sing any of the songs that she wanted, hopefully not the painful songs, but one of the better, and more jubilant songs.

As she approached the bards, she would notice that one of them was her teacher. "Hey there Lyssoryl, have you come to grace us with your beautiful voice?" he asked, and then awaited a reply from her...

"Aren't you sweet! And that is exactly what I would wish to do, even if I must make modest protestations that my voice is not as beautiful as all that. Still, in this dress I suspect that my bosom shall jiggle on the high notes and one way or another my date will enjoy the performance."

She considered her options briefly, but the Anthem of Aelyria seemed like the obvious choice. It was too early in the evening to relax everyone with a lullaby, and the Accelerando seemed better saved for later, when people began to grow tired from the dancing.

"I believe I should like to have a try at the Anthem of Aelyria."

She took her time getting into clara as the band played another song. It was a festive occasion and it was not difficult for her to get herself into the proper spirit. She sang the song grandly and with feeling, using her whole body to drive the music to the furthest corners of the room.

As she began to sang, so the audience, and dancers began to feel more Jubilant and carefree. Their dancing became of exhilarating, and they spun around, and did things one might not have normally seen in dancing. But instead of it being a wild spectacle that people might not like, it in turn was one that everyone enjoyed, and were glad to be dancing too. Once she finished her song, Taz walked up towards the stage, and held out his little cether hand to help her off of it. "Would you like to dance with me now?" he asked, smiling, and hoping the answer would be yes...

Lyssoryl hopped down from the stage in what she hoped was a dainty fashion. The stage was raised enough that it was quite a leap for a Cether.

"I most certainly would like to dance, although I must warn you that I am not well trained in dancing and mostly just do what seems right. Still, we might well have fun."

She stepped close to Taz to let him get a grip on her. "I'll do my best not to step on your feet, but I promise nothing."

"It is okay, I am not very good at it either... let us just try and do our best..." he said. Sad to say, when they were dancing, and the music was playing, she would notice that he stepped on her feet more than she stepped on his. Perhaps it was just that he was generally and naturally a bit more clumsy than most of the people around. Luckily he made up for it by his charm and natural talent at sorcery.

After they had danced for awhile, and one of the songs they were dancing to ended, Taz smiled, and then said, "Would you like to grab some of the delicious food that you made yesterday? My stomach is famished..."

Lyssoryl was not sure if Taz was actually clumsy of he just liked playing footsie. Cether seemed to have a thing about feet, but she was not as culturally aware as she could have been, having been raised by humans.

"By all means, let's eat! And perhaps even drink champagne if we can find any. I've never had champagne but I hear that it is a fine thing to drink at an event like this. Also, I would very much like to say hello to Sera and her husband, I have been looking forwards to meeting him."

As they went over to the table that was adorned with the food that Lyssoryl had made, There happened to be two large bowls of champagne directly at the end of the table, with glasses to easily fill the cups. Her wish of the drink being there had come true. "This smells delicious!" said Taz, whom then took a bowl, and filled it up with some of the cream of beef stew. "Would you like me to fill up a bowl of some of this for you?" he asked her...

"Why yes, I would very much appreciate it if you don't mind." As Taz got food, Lyssoryl filled two glasses with champagne. She admired the way that bubbles formed on the inside of the glass, it seemed a very elegant sort of drink.

She cast about the room, looking for Sera and her husband. Seeing them at a table somewhat near the wall, she said "Oh! There she is! Do you mind if we sit with them for a time? I would love to say hello."

With Taz in tow she carried the champagne over to the table. "Serale!" She said. "Are you two enjoying the festivities?"

Taking a glass of champagne from her, and then handing her a bowl of the cream of beef stew, Taz smiled and then said, "Sure, i would not mind sitting next to them at all!"

As they walked over there, Sera smile, and then got up to greet Lyssoryl. "There you are! I was just telling my husband that you'd be here so he could meet you and your date..." she said. "Hello Taz, how is your brother doing? Is he still blowing holes in walls?" she then asked Taz, smiling about it, and grinning. "Oh yes, you know he is," replied Taz as they all sat down.

"Lyssoryl, Taz, this is my husband Raph..." she said, and then her husband said, "Why Hello there, Lyssoryl! I hear all about you from Sera..."

"Hello! I am awfully glad to meet you! You have a wonderful wife and the fact that you don't weight 300 pounds tells me that you haven't been taking proper advantage of her talents. Still, I suppose one must be practical. Are you enjoying yourselves?"

She took a sip of her champagne, then made a comic face. "The bubbles somehow get into my nose even though I am careful to get it all in my mouth. They really are quite wiley."

Taz smiled at her joke, as did Raph. "Trust me, i have taken up a good deal of her cooking into me, though, i excercise daily, so it's not really a problem of weight..." he said smiling. Taking a sip of his own champagne, he looked at her and then asked, "How do you like my wife's cooking? Working with her must be something, especially if she's always exclaiming about how good you're progressing..." As he said this, Sera blushed a bit, and then said, "It is quite true that i talk about you alot, but as we all can see, you've certainly improved in your cooking skills from when i first began to teach you..."
