And the saurid stood by as a sentry as the apprentice began to weave his spell. Watching, and waiting, the saurid saw nothing out of the unusual, other than having heard the screech moments before. As for Palacrisis, his spell began to weave, and the energies moved about him. Forming the mana took some time, then forming the spell took time as well. But the entire time the Saurid stood there, eyes alert for anything that might cause a panic. Finally after about five or so minutes, Palacrisis's spell took effect and was cast.

He could see the forest, snow covering the ground, pure white snow, without a hint of another color. But then just as he could see that, he could also see something coming in range of his Vision, and it looked serious. The crimson flow of blood began to blanket the snow, and it looked like perhaps the source of the scream was just outside the range of his spell. At least he now knew where the location of the screech had originated from. It was only his choice to take Ssss'tak with him and investigate the red forming trail of blood, or they could continue on the path that they happened to already be on and continue to look for Mistress Monai...

To quarter the land in the astral plane was a delight a weightless formless essence of the apprentice sorcerer searching out the source of the scream ….It came nigh on two miles from where his helpless body lay at the outer limit of the range of his abilities, blood on the snow! Hardly unusual in a world where nature was laid bare in tooth and claw. Could the cry have come from the throat of some animal attacked by another as the wheel of life, death and survival in hostile winter was played out?

Yet the screech had been so plaintive so full of emotion that Pala hardly thought it was animalistic in nature but who really knows the wild woods distort sound soften and accelerate it across the vast whiteness of winters snow fall.

There was no clue, no footprints, no sign of struggle. just fresh snow stained red . Pala returned to his body and eased himself up from the where he had left it … Not much to tell really simply blood on snow nothing else there to indicate what or who shed the blood, We can go that way or another but as we are searching blind for the druidess its our first indication of anything out here it may be a wild goose chase but at least it’s a direction with a purpose so lets see where the blood trail leads

"Very well, we sssssshall follow the trail of blood..." said Sssss'tak, whom then began to allow Palacrisis to lead the way, since it was his Vision that had allowed them the location of where the pool of blood began. Making their way there, it took them a little bit of time, but as surprises were surprises, they would certainly have one when they found where the pool of blood was coming from. It was a tree, and they could see that it was pouring out red blood, blanketing the snow around it. "What isssss the meaning of thissss?" questioned Ssss'tak, very surprised, and worried as to why a tree was bleeding red blood, something quite unnatural...

Well I’m beggared muttered Pala as he surveyed the scene in front of him,. He had heard of fir trees seeping sap and sticky resins but never a bleeding tree pouring the red stuff …

Search me Sssss’tak I have never seen such a phenomena before, its horrible but I will lay you a single copper coin to a crown that this is what mistress Monai is mixed up in. She must either be trying to solve this mystery or perhaps an experiment has gone wrong and she has caused this and is trying to put things right….

Pala walked around the tree but could find no more than the single source of the blood.


look Ssss’tak we do not know if this unfortunate tree is the single victim of this phenomena or if there are more, if there are more bleeding trees then they might lead us to Monai…..

He stopped pondering the oddity more and then began to utter his thoughts out loud a habit he often practised when alone in his study .

This tree does not appear to be a Treant so it does not seem to be able to speak for itself….Yet trees do not bleed…... So there must be spell casting involved here…. Sap turned into blood that’s a peculiar thing…..I have heard of occasional individuals being “treebanes” where their touch kills trees but not one who’s touch causes bleeding ….hmm ….so could there be an individual trapped and bleeding inside the tree melded into its core by some malevolent magic…… after all there are wild faes here and who knows what they might do if they got upset?

He walked around the unfortunate tree again and then with a shrug of his shoulders rapped his knuckles on the bark … Er….Serale is there anything we can do?

He felt foolish but if the Saurid thought he had gone stark raving mad he had to be sure that every possibility was covered …..
