„Some people enjoy dealing with the black elves“, Minhiriath argued. The look on her face made it obvious that she was not one of those people. “There are a few markets on the first plane of Har’oloth. I’ve never been there personally, but if you ever want to do business with the vysstichi you should go there …” She said that even though she had doubts that he would do that. He was a healer, and in her simple, innocent view of the world healers were good people and only had contact with the black elves if it couldn’t be avoided.

“Then I’m sorry.” Minhiriath really hadn’t heard that he had been talking about children. She had just heard that they had been short. She frowned a bit as he moved closer – a bit too close for her taste – but she did not say anything. She simply waited for him to step back and took the paper he had just signed. “Thank you”, she said, a little less enthusiastic about her visitor now. “Here is your visa, Sir.” She handed him the desired document. “Have a nice brightening.”

Minhiriath put the papers she had been working on away and looked at Rincewin as he entered. She noticed the sword, but did not say anything about it. A lot of people in Vortex were armed. It was dangerous there. She simply gestured for him to take a seat.

“The free housing offer?” she asked and nodded. “I see …” The thane’s free housing program had become quite successful. Most of the better houses were already gone, but there were still plenty of others left.

“Please call me Minhiriath, Sir”, she told him. She didn’t like being called “aedile” even though that was her job. It made her feel weird.

“Most of those free houses have only one real room – although they vary in size.” She took his visa and looked it over. She had clearly never heard of one Tachus Rusalaem or the Brothers in Arms, and thus she looked fairly unimpressed. “Will you be living there alone? We usually give slightly bigger houses to families …”

Olvann nodded his head slightly as the Aedile passed over his visa. He was really quite apathetic to anything the Aedile had just said, entirely focused on his new indetification, the success of having obtained a visa so easily delighted him. "And may Aetheria shine on you always." He responded politely. He left with a bow, exiting the office with a light smooth step, passing the steel monoliths without even a glance.

Olvann had not been looking forward to this impending visit, he really disliked enduring the presence of such a foul woman. However, his business demanded that he purchase a warehouse in Har'oloth, Yvill'ir was waiting on the location. He lightly padded into the building he'd been in no more than two cycles previous, intent on ending this visit as fast as possible. The two steel behemoths who guarded the Aedile's office were discomforting reminders that he could do little but mentally expand the Aedile's circulatory system. Ioanne's himself hated this pretentious bitch.

Entering into the room with lithe serenity, Olvann approached the desk of the Aedile with calm unreadable features, taking care to not approach her desk too closely. "Serale honorable Aedile, may the light of the Aether shine upon you." He greeted for the second time since arriving in the forsaken city of the Empire. "Might I request a brief audience to discuss the purchasing of a building on the second plane of Har'oloth, as well as the well intentioned approval of a bussiness on the spoken plane." He carefully danced around with his overly polite tone. He knew she did not have to approve of his business, but any allies he could muster among city officials would prove valuable, even if that ally was a despicable whore. He inwardly chuckled at an imaginary opportunity to splay her open.

"Actually, I will most likely be living there accompanied by others." Rincewin said. Fidelis wasn't family, and neither would his other students. But it was close enough. "I prefer a house with a rather large livingroom -the bedrooms can be smaller. It's a community thing." He said.

She still remembered him. It seemed as if it had only been a brightening ago that this man with his strange, oddly polite manner of speech and those amazingly blue eyes had entered her office. There was something about him that just made him stand out among all those dark eyed humans and all those red eyed, rude vysstichi. While Olvann thought her annoying and wanted nothing more than leave her presence again as fast as possible, Minhiriath’s thoughts were quite the contrary. She did not mind talking to him at all. In fact he fascinated her slightly.

“Serale”, she spoke. “It seems as if life has been treating you well, Mr. … Coia, isn’t it? That unfortunate encounter outside of Vortex does not seem to have left permanent traces. We have a few buildings on the second plane for sale. In most vysstichi cities buildings are sold by the Council, but we have a special deal here. The aedile’s office is allowed to sell houses on the upper planes, to vysstichi as well as to surface dwellers.” He could hear the pride in the elf’s voice. Minhiriath did not like the dark skinned folk, but she appreciated new opportunities for business.

“I only need to know how big the building you want to acquire should be. I also need to know a few details concerning that business …”

“Others …” Miniriath repeated. “I assume that those others are related to you in some way?” She looked at him questioningly, but continued right away as if she assumed that the answer would be “yes” anyway. She opened a large, leather bound book that was lying on her desk and leafed through it. “There is a larger building on my list – if you don’t mind living near the ruins of …” There was a short pause. “… the ruins of the Basilica of Jorel.” Jorel was not well liked in Vortex. Most people followed Jalat. And even those that did not mind the Lord of Chaos avoided the Basilica because of the strange occurences in its vicinity.

“It has one large room on the ground floor and a lot of space on the upper floor. That could be turned into sleeping quarters for you and your … community. There should also be a kitchen and a storage roof of some kind. If you were willing to pay though, I would be able to offer you something much bigger and better. Most buildings in the Southern Quarter are rather … quaint …”

Life had been treating him well, once he had his business up and running he'd be done with this slough of wretchedness. His craft could be used elsewhere and he thirsted for the knowledge that awaited him in the various city's of the Empire. Olvann listened intently to the Aedile, apparently he had overlooked the possibility that there was a council responsible for the sales of property in Har'oloth. Nonetheless, the Aedile seemed reasonably sure that she could provide him with something. Apparently the surface had a reasonable hold on the Vysstichi here. It was uncommon for the surface races to hold such an advantage over the dark skinned elves. It must have come at quite a cost. Good... He thought with mounting irritation, maybe the bitch isn't so useless after all...

Her proud nature only enhanced the distaste he felt for the elf. Perhaps he would be able to wait around after hours. No... Too risky. He thought with distain. Perhaps he could finally muster enough time to take a look at the more pleasurable portions of Vysstichi society before moving on.

"I'm in need of a small warehouse, approximately five-thousand square feet, and if possible an attachment for a small stable, to house, one, maybe two horses." He stated, his tone professional and to the point. "I spoke to you earlier of my intentions to sample the mushrooms of Har'oloth. My business is much along the same lines, but to bring the mushrooms to the Empire." He continued, a small grin decorating his previously stoic visage. "Sil'in mushrooms."

He handed the Aedile his confirmation of his loan with the Vortex bank along with his business plan and the figures concerning the business. He waited patiently for the Aedile to oversee the documentation and concluded with, "Any problems?"

„We have a couple of such warehouses“, Minhiriath replied and handed him a large leather bound book. “Please take a look at the list and tell me which one you prefer. The warehouse and the stable will come to about five thousand crowns.” She took the papers he had provided and looked through them. A smile flickered across her face. “It seems as if you have planned everything out, Sir. There will be no problems with this here. I thoroughly enjoy working with people like you. But … Sil’in mushrooms …” She frowned. “Could you tell me what they are? I’m not exactly familiar with vysstichi food …”

“Anyway”, she continued and handed the papers back to him. “There is a one time fee of 1000 crowns that you have to pay if you want to open a business. You can take an additional loan for that if you want. The government of Vortex is quite flexible in that context. We want to encourage the opening of new businesses …”

Olvann's exterior belied his thoughts as he continued in a most amiable tone, "That one..." He said while pointing at the parchment, still keeping a respectful distance between himself and the Aedile. "The price is fine, as well as the cost for opening the business. " He responded offhandedly... Truthfully his loan had come at a reduced rate already and the reality of it was, that a thousand crowns was coppers to him now. The Aedile was profoundly and irrationally arrogant. "How can she charge someone for opening a business in Har'oloth... The city officials may have thought the had a say with the going-on in the city of the Vysstichi, but in all sense of the word, they were ignorant fools. He could have run his business for twenty era's and they probably wouldn't have known about it. How he wished he could have only a few minutes alone with her...

"The mushrooms are bagged in schemes of their species, we collect all the viably eatable mushrooms in Har'oloth. 'Sil'in' is the company name." He responded calmly, more than slightly irritated that he was explaining himself to a thoughtless bitch. Taking his papers back he gently placed them in his cloak and retrieved the appropriate amount of six thousand crowns in banknotes and passed them to the Aedile.

"Is that sufficient?" He concluded.

OOC: Feel free to describe the warehouse!

“So there is no Sil’in mushroom?” Minhiriath nodded. The lightborn elf knew little of the vysstichi and their eating habits. She knew that they liked fish, wine and mushrooms, but everything else was a complete mystery to her.

“I need you to sign something …” she said as she took the banknotes. She only looked them over briefly. She trusted the man – mostly. “Here …” She slid a piece of parchment across the desk to him. “You have to confirm that you were given the deed and paid the amount of 6.000 crowns to me … and here is your deed. You have to put your name on the deed as well …”

She gave him a pen. While she waited for him to sign the documents, she remarked, “It’s good to know that you found work and are successful again. I was a bit worried when you told me how your visa and your money were stolen …”

OOC: Thanks Kalinda .

Olvann nodded to confirm her line of questioning. Had he not just explained himself? The woman was unbelievable. The Aedile passed him a piece of parchment to confirm the sale and opening of his business. Olvann took the note and quill and scribbled his signature boldly. Undoubtedly she was coming to recognize his mark.

The deed to the five-thousand square foot warehouse held a single floor, with the exception of a stairway leading to up a suspended office. The office was rather small. The building also had an attachment that served as a stable and could hold two horses, or an animal of equivalent size. It was a dull color and seemingly, would blend in quite well with it's surroundings on the second plane. It was well built, if not slightly old and seemingly in good shape. It would serve his company well.

Olvann noted the concern the Aedile was showing him in regards to his "stolen visa and money". Fool... He thought with surprising hilarity and mulled over how concerned she'd be if he ever got to spend some time alone with her. Then it hit him. Concern. She cared about him. He found the thought repulsive, and yet, delightful. Perhaps he would be able to use that emotion to his advantage and finally get to do just that... Spend some time with her.

"Thank you... It has been hard, trying to make somethign of myself here." He responded politely. "Perhaps I might be able to discuss it further with you after your responsibilities are complete this brightening..." He said and flashed a brilliant smile. He supposed humbly that he was a reasonably attractive man, not extraordinarily attractive by any means, and quite plain, except for the eyes his whore mother had given him. "I find your company delightful." He added with a chuckle. "But I'd very much like to take you out to dine." He concluded and again repeated the hands-to-waist maneuver he'd learnt upon first meeting the Aedile.

"That sounds perfect." Rincewin said. "We will fix it up." This was indeed, a most promising building. He could turn this into a proper facility with the assistance of a few workers. It would not take him -or Fidelis- very long to do so. "We have no problem living near ruins. we can deal with spirits and superstitions. It'll keep the neighbours away, yes?" He said and smiled. He tried to joke with the Aedile, to get her to like him. It always helped having people like you. It was just that he was rather awkward in social situations where he wasn't just deceiving someone.

The ruins of the basilica sounded good too. He could restore those and bring the glory of Jorel back to this heathen city. Rincewin did not like Jalat. He didn't like Jorel either, but it was Jorel whom he served. If he failed in his task, he would be recalled to his lord. And he would stay in Aethernia forever. Not something he looked forward to. This city would be perfect for converting people to the one true faith. Away from the false hope that Jalat gave but towards the true light of Jorel's words.

"where do I sign? " He asked then.

As Olvann started to talk about discussing it further later on, Minhiriath’s eyes widened, and her thoughts started to race. What did he mean with that, this healer with the amazing blue eyes that had just come to Vortex? “Thank you …” she murmurred, and a bit blush colored her cheeks, but she regained her composure very quickly. “I would be delighted to dine with you”, she answered and smiled. “The Golden Dragon has excellent food. I leave here in just two candlemarks. That would be enough time for you to inspect your warehouse and then come back here … if you want …”

From the look on the young elf’s face it was obvious that she found Olvann attractive (the main reason that made him attractive to her were his eyes) and interesting. It had been a long time since she had met a man with such manners (and a potentially interesting story). The men in Vortex were rude, murderers, thieves and drunkards, all of them – apart from the thane, and he was dead now. He had been replaced with a katta that sometimes sent shivers down the elf’s spine. That Olvann had come into her office was almost to good to be true.

“Excellent”, Minhiriath said, relieved that Rincewin did not have a problem with the house she had proposed to him. “I suppose it will keep the neighbours away”, she agreed and smiled lightly. Minhiriath did not want to have anything to do with Jorelites and the like, but she could see how living near those ruins could have some benefits. “I’m glad that the house is to your liking, Sir.”

“Wait a moment”, she murmurred as he asked where he should sign. She put the book away and opened a drawer of her desk. She removed two documents from it and handed them to him. “One is your house deed. You have to sign that. And the other paper is just for the records. We want to keep track of who owns which house – and which houses are still available. I hope that makes sense to you.” She handed him a pen and then waited.
