A gust of wind sliced against Kalenel’s knees as he leaped backward, narrowly avoiding the tip of his mentor’s sword. Faust’s other weapon remained low, and fortunately so as Kalenel returned on the offensive, suddenly transitioning his defenses into a series of attacks that forced the Vysstichi Lord to defend himself. The Prince wore a grim smile as his hands continued to weave from side to side, picking off Kalenel’s thrusts and jabs but all the while keeping his options open. Kalenel was unpredictable, a trait that worked extremely well in his favor, and he was finally beginning to understand a method that Faust had deemed as ‘Chain Fighting’, or rather, the seamless ability to move from one sequence of combat to the next.
It was one of the hardest lessons for anyone to learn.
“That’s enough,” Faust said as he finally danced away. Both of his swords returned to their sheaths by his sides, and his crimson orbs met Kalenel’s silently for several seconds. “You’ve learned well, my friend. There is still much more to learn; there will always be more to learn, but you’ve grasped the concepts that I’ve wanted you to discover quite well. Continue to practice and never forget what you have learned here. These fundamentals will be imperative to remember should you continue to pursue study of the blade.”
