„What do you know of him?“ the priestess asked as he told her that he wished to follow his father’s footsteps after all, that he wanted to be trained as he was. She meant the god of course and not the his sire, although her words had been vague. “What do you know of our lord, of our master, of our mission in this world and the next?” Her voice was cool again, like the mist that filled the room, like the water of a mountain lake in an area where there was always snow, but it was not unpleasant. There was a strange kind of beauty to her voice, to her words, a strange king of intensity in her dark eyes.
She extended her right hand, and if he took it, she would lead him to the statue of the hooded man in the center of the room. No matter how hard he tried, Vincent would not be able to see the fact that was under the hood. Maybe Jalat had no face, no face that could be recognized by a mere mortal. There was a raven perched on the god’s shoulder though. It seemed to study those that stood in front of the statue.
“What do you know of him?” she repeated and gestured towards the faceless man.

The half elf's eye found it's way to the statue as instructed. Though, when asked what he knew of him. Vincent found he did not know how to answer. This construct of Rock in many ways reminded the half elf of himself. Vincent could not help but be drawn to the raven perched on the The statues shoulder. It's eyes, scanning those that stood before it...much as Shadow would do when perched on the half elf's shoulder. Though, that realization was a scary Similarity. It also provided the provost with a level of comfort. For it gave Vincent a communality with Jalat, a place to start. A way to bring to a mortal level that which was beyond life and death.
When the half elf finally spoke he found his voice sounded solid, certain...yet inwardly Vincent found nothing but a jumble of thoughts, idea's and feelings. "I confess I do not know that much about Him. In fact, what I know is more or less the one sided view of the imperial witch hunters, drilled into all children of the empire. A view I have never shared. I know he is the all seeing, I know he will Judge us on the final days...when all life ends. But beyond that I have never known much more....For words do not...explain the truth of Him." As Vincent thought on it more a realization came to him. It was not words that could explain Jalat. For like his face there was nothing there to describe, much as the half elf was now finding out in his mind. What was there, could not be interpreted in speech, only learned threw one's own feelings. "I do not know how to explain the thoughts in my mind...I find words fail me when it comes to describing him. What he is called, his place is, his purpose. It is more a feeling that explains him in my mind. The feeling of comfort I have when in a cemetery, the drawing force that brought me here to the temple. The guiding force that help me find Shadow... Those feelings, that guiding force is all I truly know about him. All I needed to know at the time."

„People can be so narrowminded“, the priestess murmurred and sighed. “They think they know the truth, they think their gods of Aetheria are all there is, but they fail to realize that they will all belong to Jalat when they die. Jalat is the beginning and the end. He takes every soul. Jalat knows no difference between rich and poor, between kings and beggars, men and women, humans and those that have fur. He is the ultimate equalizer. While Haya, Meephos and Jorel have set their minds on petty, material goals, while they fight for power and money and wage wars, Jalat pulls the strings in the background. He knows that it is only a matter of time.”
As he tried to explain his feelings, mentioned how he felt when he was in a cemetary, the priestess nodded. “I know that feeling”, she said. “I always felt most comfortable in a cemetary or one of Jalat’s temples, even as a small child. My father was a High Priest of course, so he didn’t mind, but other people would look at me strangely. They didn’t understand. Even now they pray to Diana and are afraid of Jalat and condemn him.”
“But he is the most important god there is. He rules all …”
“Feeling Jalat’s presence, that guiding force is probably the most important thing. Sometimes the fact that he is there, watching you, is all you need to know. Sometimes this is all that matters. You can study the holy texts for all your life, but if you have never felt Jalat’s touch, they do not matter. Only he can make you complete.”
