Deep in the heart of the Kitsume District lies a little known underground facility. Carved out of the basement depths of an enormous warehouse there, students from the Ivory Tower (namely bonedrummers and swordsingers) have started a grassroots movement that plays off the calmer tavern and dance hall themes of the above ground established society. The building is unmarked and hard to find unless you follow the crowds of young people and dance enthusists that seem to hone into the location in droves. Drummers in particular enjoy the location because once a person crosses down a series of steps from the back alley of Northwalk Street, they enter a vast cavernous space that is entirely lined on three sides with drums. From the entrance on both sides, circling around lies an upraised platform filled with instruments of all sorts, but primarily holding drums. Rolling Thunder might have anywhere from ten to a hundred drummers drumming all at once on any given night. The forth wall, a short span opposite of the entrance, holds a makeshift bar. One really can't call it a bar, for there's no formal organization other than one or two helpers serving those holding ceramic disks the size of coins. The Ivory Tower arcanist students normally pitch in to add to the pyrotechnics of the facility, renewing spells and providing unusual lighting with their arts which are often augmented by the bonedrummers who play there and fall into their arcane trances.
Though a great place to burn off engery, Rolling Thunder can be rather high spirited at times. Injuries on the dance floor are often common, and illegal or immoral substances are often traded for coin out in its depths. Brawls break out quite frequently, though they are often settled by bounces tossing all the brawling parties outside. No one normally takes offense unless an instrument and most especially a precious drum gets damaged. The musicians are particular about their stuff and tend to take offense if anyone damages it.
The system is unique. All women, bonedrummers, and swordsingers... and those in training are let in free. Men must pay a cover charge of 15 gold crowns per night. Stamps are given to those that pay the cover. For an additional 30 gold crowns, anyone can be offered a chit that is stamped with a new unique design each night. Rumor has it a few art students make a fortune producing these 'coins' daily. Once a chit is sold, it is hung on a leather thong from a persons neck. It can be shown at the bar and whatever is being served that night is offered free of any additional charge. People who frequent The Rolling Thunder Underground often wear their chits in large necklaces around their necks... when dancing the chits add to the music and make an unholy sound... that the young people of Zinn'Sunn tend to love.
The Rolling Thunder Underground is completely unsanctioned by any clan, government, and indeed the whole of polite Zinn'Sunnese society. If most adults of any social rank at all realized it existed, they'd most likely see to its closure. As is, the people who frequent it keep a close lid on its existance.
