NEW YORK CITY -- The United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") has approved the Aelyria trademark several weeks ago, Play by Post LLC announced today. The approval marks the successful completion of Play by Post LLC's nearly year-long strategy to register the trademark of its flagship product. The Aelyria Trademark, now Registered, ensures that only Play by Post LLC will be legally allowed to use the name; the Registration was simultaneously recognized by the European Union and the Internet Trademark Board, as well as concordantly acknowledged by the World Trade Organization. Use of the Aelyria name must now be accompanied by a notice indicating that "Aelyria ® is a Registered Trademark of Play by Post LLC", and will enable Play by Post LLC to litigate misuse of the Aelyria name anywhere in the world.

We began to tackle a recurring problem in large-scale fantasy worlds: simulating realistic economies that take into account standardized values of goods and services, fluctuating economic concepts like supply and demand, and intricate or complex notions such as trade routes and labor. A new discussion in Aelyria has been posted to our symposium entitled The Aelyrian Economy and we are delighted to extend an invitation to all interested theorycrafters, economists, and enthusiast financial tinkerers to help us flesh out our game world's economic systems.

Last night, we published one of our custom modules for Aelyria to the public at vBulletin.org: "Top Groups". Used to display leading community groups on a vBadvanced-powered website, Top Groups is a simple modification that utilizes a single query to the vBulletin database to pull active groups and sorts them by membership. Designed and distributed as a learning tool, we've made this our first public add-on for Jelsoft software. More information (active vBulletin license required) can be found here.

Following this week's heat wave in the Northeastern United States, major power relays and failing transformers in Boston experienced a severe outage and service interruption last night at approximately 8:00 pm Eastern Time. Service was restored at around 4:00 am Eastern Time, and subsequent power outages were reported throughout the morning. Play by Post servers were unaffected by these outages, as they were connected to redundant uninterrupted power supplies and had two backup datacenter locations in Texas and Washington State.

Though the XSS flaw was difficult to exploit, the potential for exposure and damage was limited, Play by Post LLC applied the security patch hours after our software development team reported its remote possibility, ensuring that our user and customer data remained completely safe and secure.
